Touching The Void (2003): 9/10
Heel erg pakkende documentaire
Krakatoa: The Last Days (2006): 6/10
A TV docudrama that I watched because the subject is fascinating (the Krakatoa eruption of 1883). The rating is kinda high, and i don't even understand the rating in the slightest. The movie however was interesting and okay but it didn't came across to me as a piece of great filmmaking, and acting performances were beyond terrible. I also encountered factual errors (mostly at the end), and the visuals are pretty lame, even if the special effects are kinda well done for a tv film of that budget (but the overal look - aside of special effects - is bad) for a 2005 film.
One of the errors is the claim that the climate change ensuing this disaster continued till far in the 20th century, which is absolutely untrue. At most, the climate impacts lasted a few years, which is usually or always the case for eruptions of this size. Even for eruptions of a larger size, the effects usually last a few years, the danger is in them triggering a snowball effect, which might change temporary changes to semi-permanent changes.
