As you know we have something special down here at Birdland this evening
A recording for Blue Note Records
Groovy, groovy, jazzy, funky
Pounce, bounce, dance as we
Dip in the melodic sea
The rhythm keeps flowin' and drips to MC
Wie is Us3?
There are few acts as eclectic as Us3 that have managed to enjoy major chart success. Led by British producer and composer Geoff Wilkinson, the band’s seamless blend of hip-hop and jazz first captured the imagination of listeners worldwide in 1993 with the release of the seminal Hand on the Torch album and its smash hit single “Cantaloop.” The disc brought together MCs with tremendous lyrical and vocal skills, a wealth of jazz samples mined from the Blue Note Records catalog, and irresistibly addictive song structures and arrangements that catapulted it to classic status. It also significantly influenced many jazz/hip-hop hybrids that followed—to this very day.
He had a reputation for being mean and demanding "tips" to the point of extortion. An explanation of his system was given by vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson in an interview.[9] He claimed Marquette told him on his first day that he was not needed and that he should "pack your things and get on out of here." This did not occur as he had been asked to play, but Marquette made Hutcherson's first night playing at the club difficult. Marquette intentionally mispronounced his name to embarrass Hutcherson and blew cigar smoke in his face to further the irritation. However once Marquette was paid his "tip" he pronounced Hutcherson's name correctly.[10] This is said to have been a pattern for him: other musicians had similar stories of having to pay him to avoid public humiliation. Perhaps because of this, or because of the era, most musicians who knew him still referred to him as a "midget".

Linda Ryan from the Gavin Report commented, "It just doesn't get cooler than this! US3 combine jazz, hip-hop and house grooves for a fresh sound that begs to be discovered in a big way. If you thought Guru's Jazzmatazz was phat and all that, wait 'til you hear US3's "Cantaloop!"
Hand on the Torch was ignored by most jazz publications, but was chosen Album of the Year by Japan’s Swing Journal, and the group were named Jazz Musicians of the Year by Britain’s The Independent.
Different Rythems, different people: Eigelijnk een grote sample van Art Blakey – Comments on ritual
I go to work: Mooie sample van Thelonious Monk:
Lazy day
Eleven Long years: opnieuw met een mooie sample van the legend Herbie:
