FIA set record straight on Red Bull brake rumours after new 'forbidden' rule:
- The FIA has clarified that no Formula 1 team, including Red Bull, has been using a banned braking system, addressing unfounded rumours that linked Red Bull to such practices.
- Over the summer break, the FIA World Motor Sport Council approved changes to the technical regulations. This included additional wording to explicitly ban asymmetrical braking torques, which led to online speculation about Red Bull's potential use of this system before the Miami Grand Prix.
- The regulation change involved Article 11.1.2 of the technical regulations. The original text stated that
"the forces applied to the brake pads are the same magnitude and act as opposing pairs on a given brake disc." The added text now reads,
"Any system or mechanism which can produce systematically or intentionally, asymmetric braking torques for a given axle is forbidden."
- The FIA has confirmed that no team had been using such a system. The rule adjustment was made to ensure clarity and prevent future violations, even though this type of system would already be illegal from 2026 onwards.
"There is no truth that any team was using such a system," an FIA spokesperson said.
