● David Cronenberg Finally returns to filmmaking with Sci-Fi Movie ‘Crimes of the Future’
30 jaar geleden maakte Cronenberg reeds een film onder dezelfde titel. Daarin lag een cosmetisch product aan de basis van een plaag die alle volwassen vrouwen het leven beroofde. Het is nog onduidelijk of deze film gelijkaardig zal zijn. "Specific plot details for Cronenberg’s new “Crimes of the Future” are remaining under wraps. Earlier this year, Cronenberg’s frequent collaborator Viggo Mortensen told GQ that they were gearing up to shoot a secret project this summer. Mortensen starred in Cronenberg’s “A History of Violence” and “Eastern Promises,” earning an Oscar nomination for Best Actor with the latter. Mortensen described his upcoming Cronenberg movie as returning to the director’s body horror origins, plus having elements of a “film noir story.”

● Adam Sandler is making a sci-fi drama for netflix. In "Spaceman" an astronaut is sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect ancient dust. Alone in Deep Space, the astronaut discovers a possibly imaginary giant alien spider, who becomes his unlikely companion. Over philosophical conversations about the nature of love, life and death, and the deliciousness of bacon, the pair form an intense and emotional bond. Carrey Mulligan & Paul Dano joined the cast.

Sandler kan acteren en deftige films maken als hij wil. Dat hij voor dit project niet zijn usual buddies zoals Kevin James en ander "komisch" talent inschakelt doet vermoeden dat dit misschien de moete zou kunnen zijn?

De beschrijving doet me onmiddelijk denken aan werk van Stelarc. Prolly de grootste naam in transhuman performance art.

maar Cronenberg zal het concept vermoedelijk nog een 'tikkeltje' rauwer brengen.

Erg genoten van deze sci-fi thriller van Alexander Aja (The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl). Zat gans de tijd op het puntje van mijn stoel en er zijn genoeg twists & turns die je blijven doen gissen.

LDR s2 haalt jammer genoeg niet hetzelfde niveau als het eerste seizoen maar met nog niet half zoveel afleveringen misschien ook niet zo verwonderlijk. Nog altijd meer dan ok.

● Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy, the team that recently worked together on the fantastic body-swap slasher comedy Freaky, are reuniting for yet another high-concept horror project. It’s called Time Cut, and it’s described as Back to the Future meets Scream.

● Dan Gilroy, director of the excellent Nightcrawler and the underrated Velvet Buzzsaw, has a new, ambitious-sounding project on the way. Faster, Cheaper, Better is a drama with a story that spans 20 years, focusing on the drastic changes of the global marketplace due to the increased use of artificial intelligence.

“It’s a big multi-narrative film, set over two decades in multiple locales. We follow a group of inter-connected characters, as they deal with automation and AI changing their world, particularly the work world. I’ve always been interested in machines and technology and it fairly recently how automation and AI are just profoundly transforming the workplace. For example, right now at this moment, there are fully automated factories around the world where robots are literally making robots to replace people in an absolutely endless variety of jobs. Not just manufacturing and production jobs. S2 vond ik juist beter... meer variatie en uitwerking en minder kinderlijk dan S1. Moest vaak aan The Twilight Zone denken. CGI was top notch. Beste episodes vond ik Snow, The Tall Grass en All Through the House.

Ik moet zeggen dat ik het 1ste seizoen ook beter vond, meer échte sci-fi, maar ik vond het zeker niet slecht.
Bij Ice en The Tall Grass vind ik de art style wel zeer knap.

Vanavond misschien naar Oxygen kijken.

Soit , als seizoen 2 eraan komt zal ik waarschijnlijk wel kijken maar om dit nu “de SF reeks van de afgelopen 10 jaar “ te noemen …..nee denk het niet .

Die eer gaat naar Black Mirror voor mij met Rick & Morty als runner up.

Enkel deze heb ik bekeken van jouw lijstje waarvan ik Legion niet helemaal heb uitgekeken en Altered Carbon na enkele afleveringen ook heb opgegeven.
Aan de hand van wat ik zelf al gezien heb, welke zou je nog aanraden?

Dat Westworld nog in die lijst mag ...

Seizoen 1 vond ik nogwel OK, maar zelfs daar was ik me al serieus aan 't ergeren aan verschillende zaken.
Seizoen 2 vond ik matig tot slecht. En seizoen 3 heb ik links laten liggen.
Ik ben extra misnoegd omdat ik er nogal veel van verwacht had misschien.

@Lint ; alles tot 16 is goed tot heel goed, vanaf 17 gaan we naar ok. The Expanse is dus maar alles daarboven vond ik nog net een tikkeltje beter.

@Skoebiedoe ; Moet de 6e nog zien maar is wel ok idd. Bevat wel heel wat SF elementen maar heeft wel een meer fantasy feel imo.

@vloet ; misschien S3 toch een kans geven? Vond dit beter dan S2. Nu ja S2 was wat complex voor z'n eigen goed maar vond dat ook nog altijd meer dan de moeite.


@ikbenben ; 1ste seizoen van Legion was zalig maar werd idd wel heel vreemd en misschien net iets te experimenteel naar het einde toe.

De beste heb je allemaal al gezien vrees ik.

The Expanse is wel de moeite. Ziet er misschien wat low budget uit bij momenten. Is een reeks waar je even moet inkomen maar wordt gaandeweg beter imo. Setting is leuk, realistische space maneuvers en combat en alsmaar higher stakes.

For All Mankind

Iets te veel losstaand uitgerokken human drama en not enough space om echt top tier te zijn. Maar de acteer prestaties en het geopolitieke aspect alsook de steeds verder afwijkende tijdlijn houden het wel interessant.

The Orville - Star Trek but funny

Star Trek: Discovery - Star Trek but with more explosions.

Als je zin hebt in iets low brow met kinderachtige humor; Future Man!

Pakt zichzelf nooit serieus en wordt gaandeweg altijd maar onnozeler. Als je al veel SF gezien hebt wordt het er alleen maar beter op wat het zit vol met referenties naar voorbije SF films en series. Zo moeten ze bijvoorbeeld voor een bepaalde missie inbreken in James Cameron's huis om Unobtainium te bemachtigen. Niet super maar wel entertainend.

Heeft Maniac een klik of twist? Ik heb me door de eerste aflevering gesleept omdat de humor niet mijn ding is en toen de tweede aflevering dezelfde kant op leek te gaan, heb ik het af gezet. Als het meer van dat is, pas ik.

Wel het nodige vertier gehaald uit "The History of Time Travel", luchtiger en iets meer lineair dan bvb Cronocrimes, zonder flauw te worden.
