Pakkans moet inderdaad fors omhoog, net als de straffen. Ik zou graag zien dat er een minimumboete komt die progressief hoger ligt naargelang je inkomen (en vermogen) - zie bvb ook Finland, en wanneer de overtreding met een dienstwagen wordt gedaan zowel de chauffeur als het bedrijf beboeten. En daarbij die bedrijven ook steeds forser beboeten naargelang het aantal boetes. Want daar ligt tegenwoordig een steeds groter probleem. Time is money, dus denken velen (ook door de beperkte pakkans) dat het voordeliger is om af en toe een boete te betalen dan om wat trager en voorzichtiger te rijden.
Maar ook met hogere straffen en grotere pakkans, hebben we nood aan een mentaliteitswijziging. Wij glijden steeds verder af in een hyperindividualistische samenleving waar enkel aan het eigen gewin wordt gedacht en problemen vooral door anderen moeten opgelost worden, en dat merk je ook in het verkeer.

Als het niet in professionele context gebeurt (of bij woon-werkverkeer of werkgerelateerd) vind ik niet dat de werkgever moet gestraft worden. Je bent nog altijd zelf verantwoordelijk. In de praktijk valt dat natuurlijk moeilijk te controleren of iemand juist van zijn werk komt, of eerst blijven plakken is ergens op café.
Wel zou je dan zelf moeten opdraaien voor de schade, stel dat je gedronken hebt of flagrant boven de snelheidslimiet zat. Een boete op basis van inkomen zou ik ook niet slecht vinden (want anders gaan de grootverdieners er al sneller hun broek aan vegen aan de regels)
Voor iemand die 10000 euro verdient per maand is een boete van 1500 euro eens in de zoveel jaar peanuts, maar iemand die het met 2000 euro per maand moet doen gaat het in verhouding een veel zwaardere straf zijn.

Ik weet dat niet, een goede spaarder moet niet buitenproportioneel zware boetes krijgen dan iemand anders die even veel verdient en zijn geld buiten gooit, vind ik.
Ik heb het dan vooral op de echte dienstvoertuigen, bvb bestelwagens, taxi's, bussen, ...

Ok dan, ik dacht dat het ook over gewone bedrijfswagens ging die ook in de privé worden gebruikt.
Ik denk nu wel niet dat veel buschauffeurs en taxichauffeurs gaan alcohol drinken tijdens het beoefenen van hun job. Als zij dit doen, zijn de gevolgen mogelijk veel groter natuurlijk.

En een zelfstandige die zichzelf geen of een minimumloon uitkeert?
Toch wel. De bedoeling van progressieve boetes is om het aan iedereen evenveel "pijn" te laten doen. Het doel van de boete moet zijn van je gedrag aan te passen. Niet om goede spaarders te belonen, gedragsaanpassing zal in verhouding staan tot hoeveel de boete pijn doet, en dat hangt af van de combinatie vermogen/inkomen, niet enkel inkomen.
Het effect van een 50€ boete op een minimum inkomen gezin zonder groot vermogen, zal vele malen hoger zijn dan op een minimum inkomen gezin maar met een miljoen € op de bank.
Die laatste kan perfect minimum inkomen zijn bij keuze (deeltijds werken bv), net omdat ze die enorme buffer hebben.
Die gaan niet wakker liggen van die boete van 50€ hoor, noch daar even de broeksriem voor moeten aanhalen. En hoogstwaarschijnlijk nu gedragsaanpassing vertonen, zulke mensen beschouwen die boetes zelfs dikwijls als "cost of having fun".
Net zoals men van zin is dividenten (in eender welke vorm zoals liquidatie/vvprbis) mee te bekijken in functie van recht hebben op sociale steun, mag men die hier ook meeneemen om de boete te betalen.
Hopelijk, maar als zwakke weggebruiker is dat wel een categorie van voertuigen waarvan ik heb geleerd dat ik best niet uitga van foliekes als voorrang van rechts of op zebrapaden, of dat ze zich aan de snelheidsregels houden.

De dader reed met een pick-up truck in op een groep mensen en werd zelf doodgeschoten door de ordediensten toen hij de wagen gewapend verliet. Het is complexe en delicate materie en je hebt wel wat context nodig om te begrijpen wat die stukken juist zeggen. Je kan namen opzoeken en bewijsstukken reserveren die je dan in het archief moet gaan raadplegen. Hopelijk wordt dat in België ook doorgevoerd. Momenteel is het een heel gedoe om bewijsstukken van een familielid te raadplegen, tenzij je verbonden bent aan de universiteit.

Eigenlijk verdient dit absoluut een eigen thread. @mods: Kan dit afgesplitst worden?
We hebben het hier namelijk over 1 van de grootste schandalen in de geschiedenis van het VK.
Ik heb er de laatste weken ook al heel wat over gelezen.
De politie en politiek deden vaak niets.
Vaders die hun dochters uit de klauwen van verkrachters wilden redden, werden weggelachen en in sommige gevallen zelf opgepakt.
Misselijkmakend is het.
Er is sprake van zeker 250.000 (!) Britse meisjes en jonge vrouwen die systematisch gekidnapt, verkracht en gefolterd zijn geweest door bendes van Pakistaanse afkomst.
Labour probeert het tot op de dag van vandaag onder de mat te vegen (vrijwel de hele partij stemde gisteren, onder druk van Starmer, tegen een nationaal onderzoek). En de traditionele media type BBC hoor je ook amper over het onderwerp.
