after reading around on journals and forums and stuff, the whole thing spyed is apparently trying to do sounds pretty scary. he tries to explain it in his journal, but mostly he just makes everything really wordy and hard to understand, which is probably the point. but here's what i've gathered, and please correct me if i've misinterpreted anything (or preferably, tell me i'm wrong, which i hope i am):
DA will be broken up into "Art Groups" that are headed by DA's most popular (ie, with most pageviews) artists, who will then be able to decide what submissions get accepted and which don't, within their specific group. kind of like the Elfwood moderators, maybe, except here the moderators would be actual artists themselves, being elevated to quality judges so that only the best and most professional art is presented on the site. if they don't like it, the submission doesn't make it in. then with all the "lesser" artists and unpopular and/or crappy artwork weeded out and eliminated, DA will save tons of money on bandwidth that was previously being used by these people, and with only the "best" art on the site, DA will look sharp, flashy and professional, perfect for catching the eyes of investors who might want to pour money into the operation.
