En hier komt nog een ImbaSuperDeluxe update van Only-War:
Only-WAR Storms Mythic Entertainment!
(And you wouldn't BELIEVE what we can't tell you!)
Part 1 - The Game
While we could give you the typical review of the game, tell you what we think is great and what to look forward to, we decided after talking with Sanya, to go down to Mythic HQ and get a real feel and look of not only the game ands what it's shaping up to be, but more importantly the PEOPLE behind the game we're all going to be addicted to.
So let’s take this from the beginning! First off, Ked and I would like to instantly thank EVERYONE at Mythic for being extremely gracious and insanely friendly to us while we were on the grand tour! It was definitely great to finally put faces to all of the names we’ve been in contact with over the months!! And a special thank you to Sanya for taking the time out of her mid-day caffeine rush to show us around, answer all of our questions and to let us see things that would make most people blush and probably scared.
Now let’s get down to the brass tacks of it all. We know that you all want to read about the game first, so let’s go over what we’re allowed to tell you!
This is going to be written from a few point of views. A Warhammer Addict’s point of view (18 years of playing and painting) and an MMO veteran’s (over 10 years of MMO gaming) point of view.
ZOMG IT LOOKS LIKE A WOW CLONE!1!1!
(The Look)
Let me do something extremely uncharacteristic here and say that anyone anywhere that spouts that nonsense is pretty much just an idiot and has never really seen this game how Ked and I did on Monday August 14th, 2006. I would go so far as to take the person or persons out back and give them a few swift kicks in the tender spots for it.
Every single thing, every single piece of art, every single quest, every single pixel has a check box on it for Games Workshop’s approval. If it’s not Warhammer-ish, it’s not in. Period. We saw things that looked just fine to us, but GW didn’t think it fit the property and they had to go and do it over from scratch! Don’t WORRY people!
We didn’t play the current build. But we saw it, and what we saw blows away what anyone has been able to see so far! I have a few more words on the look and atmosphere of the game. “Outstanding” comes to mind. “Incredible” is another word. “Yeowzah” is yet another. The videos we have all seen don’t do the game justice. The artwork we saw (and swore not to talk about under pain of death…or dancing lessons), is absolutely mind blowing.
MMO Vet’s point of view – Surprisingly refreshing. Hard to believe it’s only Alpha. If it looks this good now, what the hell will it look like later?!
Warhammer Addict’s point of view – Let me put it this way, when we were introduced to the Lead Art Director, I personally shook his hand with gratitude of his faithful translation of the miniatures I have been painting for my entire adult life. If you’re a Warhammer fan like I am, (I have Warhammer art tattooed into my SKIN) you WILL be satisfied. More than satisfied. I say this with the utmost certainty and outright demanding. This is THE Warhammer game. If you don’t think this game looks like Warhammer when you finally first log in, then you have no idea what Warhammer is.
Item Grind and Instance Dungeon Raid 2.0
(More item grinding?)
The answer to this question was recently reported by one of our esteemed community members on the site, and we went in dead set to confirm it. No way will we be subjected to another game where we have to item grind in instanced dungeons PvEing with 40 people we don’t know or like again. PERIOD. Items? Yes. We met the lead item Mistress of Doom. She was working her butt off, and from what we saw, there are PLENTY of items for players to get. And both sides of the item fence shouldn’t worry about what they intend to do with them. We aren’t.
MMO Vet’s point of view – Plenty to get, but don’t worry about farming it and being the king of the epic items that auto-win fights for you. You’ll need skill, so you can have the greatest item in the game, it’s only as good as the player wielding it.
Warhammer Addict’s point of view – It all looks like Warhammer. All approved by GW. All looks incredible and drool worthy of a real Warhammer nut. If you like Warhammer, you’ll love these items.
Careers? You mean we get choices?
(What you don’t know actually can hurt you)
We saw a lot of things on our trip. So many mental notes to take, and so much we can’t talk about. This is one of them. One thing that was mentioned recently at GenCon was no Goblin Berzerker and that it was also referred to as an Ironclaw. What we saw was indeed an Orc Ironclaw. No Goblin one. Yes we saw information on the others, no we can’t write about it, talk about it, shout about it, or even send out smoke signals about it.
MMO Vet’s point of view – If you have alt-itis, you’re going to need Alternate Anonymous with this game. So much fun looking things, so much to do, definitely enticing enough to play them all!!
Warhammer Addict’s point of view – Again, shockingly well represented. Ked and I drooled while looking at the proposed list that I think they had to put a “Danger Wet Floor” sign down. All races represented PERFECTLY. Warhammer fan’s dream, Warhammer Addict’s Heaven.
Meat! We Want Meat!
(Mounts? Combat? Tier info? UI info? Racial stuff?)
And here we are. We entered The Unspoken Territory with Careers, and we are firmly planted within it here. We can’t talk about how the other races may change as they Tier up. We can’t talk about Mounts. We can’t talk about UI things. We can’t talk about Combat. We can’t talk about ANYTHING else, but we did see more things than any one human being could possibly see. But you know what? We CAN say what we thought.
MMO Vet’s point of view – We’re both jaded. From MUDS to UO to Shadowbane to WOW, we’ve taken part in every major MMO out to date (I know I didn’t list them all!). MMO’s are getting old, tiresome, raggedy and monotonous. Same crap, different skin, right? Yes. Until W.A.R. Look, we won’t lie to you. We have nothing at stake here, they didn’t pay us, they didn’t bribe us, we didn’t kiss their asses and they didn’t kiss ours. They showed us the entire W.A.R. floor for us to judge as a NEWS SITE. Not a FAN SITE. And guess what? We walked away impressed and eager. Excited and enthralled. We saw design docs, we saw images, we saw concept and conversation. And we’re convinced. This game is going to be plain damned fun to play and be a part of. If you want a fresh MMO with a fresh look, this is your game. If you want more of the same, go elsewhere. This game is definitely one that has it’s own flavor and flare and dare I say it, it’s own take on every aspect of the genre.
Warhammer Addict’s point of view – When I was 12, I wanted a Warhammer video game. When I began playing MUDS, I wanted a Warhammer video game. When I began in UO in 1996 with my friends, we all wanted a Warhammer video game. It’s almost 2007, I’m 32, I will finally have my Warhammer video game. If you have ever wanted to play a game that’s a perfect representative of the world you have been reading, painting and table-top gaming in, this is the only chance you’ll ever have and quite honestly, you will never need to look elsewhere. I am absolutely shocked and in awe that they did it. This isn’t even a beta build, and they did it. They are actually REALLY making a Warhammer MMORPG. If this game isn’t what you want, then you don’t want to play Warhammer, that’s for damned sure.
Stay tuned for PART 2 in Ked and Morg's Trip to Mythic including pictures and.......
