Info van Dragoncon:
The following items are presented in the order given during the panel. A few additional items have been inserted based on followup questions after the panel was finished.
-No reset points are planned
-458 is a “combo” (2 attacks + a special)
-The parry skill will be something you learn/earn and will be passive
-The system that is running the demo is 3.0 Ghz w/ 1G ram and a 256 graphics card
-The flaming arrows used during the demo aren’t standard (i.e. they are GM arrows used for demo purposes just like the speed increase of the NPC city)
-The “one shot / one kill” shown isn’t typical of ranged attack
-Combat music is interactive based on how you are doing in the fight, time of day, location, etc.
-The engine that Funcom uses is called DreamWorld (correct me if I heard that wrong) and has been developed over 9 years
-Damage is based on the location you hit the opponent (head/arm/torso)
-Mounted combat damage is based on the speed of the mount
-There is no friendly fire in combat
-Magic will include spell weaving of multiple spells together
-Magic and combat can be performed by keyboard or controller
-When using magic, there is a chance you can “blow yourself up”
-When using magic, there is a chance of soul corruption
-There will be no wizard’s hats (pointy hats)
cry
-Character death will include a penalty of some kind (not determined yet)
-When you die, you will respawn at a specific location
-There will not be any corpse runs
-The first 20 levels (single player) should take between 5 to 10 hours
-The plan is to be able to skip the first 20 levels after you’ve done them once
-They are talking with Conan Properties about possibly drawing a map based only on Howard’s work, which will differ from the map that many have seen
-Transportation will be by mount, by boat, and other public transportation
-Long distant transport will be instant (i.e. zone change)
-The current plan is for 8 characters per account
-There is currently no plan to allow characters to change servers
-In regards to questing, there will be some instanced quests and some that aren’t
-Funcom understands the issue of camping and is doing what it can to reduce it
-Character creation detail includes 2 different “break” points on the nose, as well as “arse” sizing
-There is a possibility of social clothing in non-combat areas (i.e. you’ll get to take your helmet off)
-PVP xp is separate from PVE xp
-The talents and abilities you use in PVP can only be gained through PVP combat
-You can’t raid for the best items and then expect to win at PVP against someone who is higher level in PVP
-There are 20 levels of PVP
-PVP is a totally separate track, apart from PVE experience
-There are 30 regions planned within the 3 countries
-Expansions and patches may add more land in the future
-In the resource and building regions, buildings are placed in a grid similar to simcity (think AO’s AI org cities)
-Building the city takes a guild effort - claim the land / gather money / select what type of city it will be / build
-NPC cities take weeks to build up when left alone
-There will be bonuses to guild members based on the buildings you build in the city (think AO’s towers and city buildings)
-The buildings range from easy to hard to construct
-You can not take a NPC city over, only level it to the ground
-There will be tradeskill “levels” to construct goods at different tiers of quality
-Crafting will not be the focus in game, Conan is about combat
-Items that are made will be useful - you won’t be forced to make dozens of a single item to “level up”
-”Leveling up” your tradeskill ability will probably be quest based - one quest per tier of quality
-The best items will probably need the use of guild forges, etc. and will probably take several people to complete the item
-The bounty system (see forums?) is not being promised at this time, but is something that Funcom would like to do
-Blood money will be in the game at release
-A VOIP system is being looked into, but will only be offered if it can be done better than what players can provide themselves (i.e. if they can’t beat the quality of products like Ventrilo, why offer it)
