I was sleeping (but wait, it gets better) and "woke up". There was someone in my room. Staring at me, or at least in my general direction. I could see the "shadow" in the dark, the presence was undeniable. Thinking it's a burglar or one of my roommates or something fucked up like that, I lay perfectly still, in hopes that they might not even notice that I am in the room and will leave.
I lay there for what feels like forever, consciously thinking that if I move I could get beat up or much worse. They never move, or make a sound. I start to wonder if I am even awake. I realize I can't tell if I am dreaming.
I am aware that SO much time is passing, I am beyond panicked at this point. I decide to test if it is a dream by trying to move. Can't move. Panic more, try to scream. Nothing.
The exact second I try to scream but can't, the "thing" leaps onto me so motherfucking fast and it was the heaviest pressure I have ever felt. My whole body, so heavy it should have just plain disintegrated from the weight or something like that. It only lasted for a moment, and all in the same instant, I woke up just freaking the fuck out.
As soon as I tried to scream, the rest of it all happened so fast.
Truly terrifying, even for someone as familiar with vivid dreams and nightmares as I am.
A few weeks later, I found out from reading online that this was actually sleep paralysis (I thought it was just a fucked nightmare) and read that it helps to move your room around. I moved my bed (when it happened, I was sleeping on my back facing the doorway) and I have never had it happen again.
