Google CEO, Larry Page, has said as much in the past. Technology, as he sees it, ought to relieve humans of repetitive, laborious tasks, freeing us to be creative, innovate, think, or take our leisure.

It comes down to human diversity being an important aspect of why humanity has thrived and part of human diversity is actually less than optimal efficiency in employment (or rather, not all work should be monetized and governed by financial/monetary economy). Embracing human diversity means widening and adjusting to the "misfits", the ones who don't fit in the 9 to 5 or work for money picture.
It allows for more progress because it utilizes more forms of cognition and perception compared to a society where everything is pretty much into function of monetizing and working for economic reward. Not all people fir that mold (good chance that a big part actually doesn't really fit that mold).
Too much of that potential is lost due to ignorance, slavery and narrow-mindedness. Robots could set so many people free. Hopefully people will see the possibilities and won't stare themselves blind on their ignorance and narrow-minded conformity to outdated and progress-slowing paradigms.

It would be rational and in accordance with knowledge and understanding/insight of psychology, sociology, cognition, ... and many more fields to step away from the foolish idea that everyone should work.
