I am an engineer and an attorney. My law practice primarily involves automotive products liability cases. In other words, I spend a lot of time evaluating things like rollovers, crashworthiness, etc. I represent people who have been injured or who have lost loved ones in automotive wrecks due to defects, so I tend to look at vehicle performance with a pretty critical eye. I say this, because I think it helps provide some important context for my comments which follow.
There are two threads on this board that immediately come to mind that demonstrate the Elise's crashworthiness performance. One involved a rollover. What struck me as interesting about that situation was that not only was there no roof crush, but the hard top didn't even pop out. The second, if I remember right, involved a collision with something like a brick subdivision entrance. In both cases, the drivers who are members of the forum indicted that they were both essentially uninjured. In fact, including all of the other (more minor) wrecks people have been involved in and posted about, I am not aware of a serious injury to someone in an Elise. Granted we are drawing from a very limited population, but given the demographic we are looking at (high performance sports cars which tend to be driven very aggressively), that's a pretty good testimonial.
