I've played Ubisoft's real-time strategy game R.U.S.E. plenty of times with gamepads and keyboards, But this week was my first chance to check it out using the Playstation MOVE: And I loved it.

To play you point the main Move controller at the screen, moving the cursor around by pointing. Once you've targeted the unit or building you want to select you just push the Move button. You an also select units by holding in a button and "painting" an area with the cursor. You can also move the camera around and zoom in and out by holding the trigger on the controller and tilting the wand side to side or leaning it forward or backward.

I messed about on the PS3 demo just before.

The operational-level interface is perfect for the DS3, so I imagine the Move controller will kick some serious posterior. Unit movement and delegation is smooth, building facilities and units is approached very smartly and it all just feels like they've really put some thought into it. If you think of an un-anchored Endwar, you're kinda close...but it's even easier than that.

One things for sure, the unit stacking is one of the greatest things I've ever messed about with. Zoom out, snap up a whole stack of armoured vehicles, zoom in a bit to fine-tune the delegated move position. It's great.

Oh, one more thing, the cinematics are a treat. There's a nice bit of flavour with the characters. It's not Blizzard-level, but it sure beats crusty old war footage spliced beside a rolling intro to a level.

Framerate is smooth as silk. No issues, no stuttering, nothing. As stated before, it's not particularly pretty, but it does capture a beautiful scope and if you play at around half-zoom, so units appear in their chip stacks, then you really get a feel for what the devs were going for. And it works wonderfully.

Load times, no issue. A load time before the main menu, then I think a tiny one at the mode select...then everything else seems hidden behind the cinematics, which is brilliant. I was astounded when, within a cutscene, my British attache officer pointed to a map, and then BAM, we were in. So, no issues there.
