Wat is BGs favoriete film uit het jaar XXXX ?

Asterix le Gaullois en Jungle Book de andere films van dat jaar waar ik van genoten heb, maar Cool Hand Luke heeft destijds toch een gigantische indruk op me gemaakt toen ik hem zag.

The Good the Bad and the Ugly 1

Nog 1 van mijn top 10 films. Leone zijn derde en beste western. Leone zorgt ervoor dat deze film boven zijn genre uitstijgt: ja dit is een western maar wel een western die duidelijk de waanzin, tragedie en nutteloosheid van oorlog weergeeft en die combinatie is geweldig. Het slagveld aan de brug, de krijgsgevangenen onderweg,... het toont al die facetten en toont dat dit meer is als een simpele wandeltocht op zoek naar een schat. Dat Leone dat nogmaals weet te combineren met een avontuur zoals dat van Blondie en Tuco is ongezien. En wat een cast ook: Eastwood is cooler dan coolst, Wallach is geweldig en ook de dreiging van Van Cleef is heerlijk om te zien.

En dan is er nog de tandem van Leone en Morricone: visueel zorgen die voor parels. Elke shootout ziet er zalig uit, elk duel is heerlijk in beeld gebracht en het wilde westen zag er nog nooit zo apocalyptisch uit. En Morricone zet daar dan een soundtrack op die bij de meest iconische soundtracks ooit hoort. Want ja die laatste 30 minuten dat is 1 episch moment puur door de combo van beeld en muziek. The Ecstacy of Gold is een parel die ik als Metallica fan niet mag negeren maar ook dat duel met die heerlijke close ups toont wat voor een meester Leone wel was.

Landslide? Yes please!

En La Grande Vadrouille als één van mijn favoriete komedies.

Wow, ik had hier al eens vermeld dat ik eerder fan ben van contemporary cinema maar hier zitten 3 films tussen die een 10 kregen (top 2%)

The Good the bad and the Ugly staat op plaats 2 in mijn all time list en is misschien wel de film die ik zou willen zien op mijn sterfbed. Met de laatste scène incl. Soundtrack als eindschot.

Daarnaast kregen ook Persona en Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf een 10. Van Persona was ik echt weggeblazen, wat een meesterwerk. Virginia is al even geleden maar vond ik ook geweldig.

En dan moet het beste nog komen....

Manos: The Hand of Fate
Met onmiskennelijk het beste personage ooit, Torgo

"There is no way out of here. It will be dark soon. There is no way out of here."

De acteur mag dan wel aaneensluitend vanaf het filmen tot de première volledig doorgesnoven zijn, Manos is een meesterwerk.

Al vind ik het verschrikkelijk dat ik niet op The Good, The Bad and the Ugly kan stemmen, wat ik echt een super leuke film vind. Maar ik vind Persona gewoon een enorme groeier (misschien wel de film die dat het best typeert), en eigenlijk ook juist heel relevant vandaag.

Damn, paar daagskes gemist hier. Effe inhalen:

• 1969 was The Wild Bunch geweest, maar perfect ok dat Bitch Cassidy met de win is gaan lopen. Best wel zwak jaar ook, damn. Nog toe te voegen aan de posts: The Cremator en Blind Beast. Ik ben meestal niet zo aan niet-Engelstalig films, maar deze 2 hit hard.
• 1968 is speciaal. Ik hou niet speciaal van Kubrick en Westerns (en maffia, en oorlog, en period pieces) dus dat schopt de classics er al uit. Heel veel goeds dit jaar, met Night of the Living Dead en Rosemary's Baby mijn top. Een hoewel ik RB de betere film vind, zou ik toch op Night gestemd hebben. De invloed van die film is gewoon te groot om te negeren. Nog wat extra subtop die nog niet vermeld waren: The Swimmer, Barbarella, Faces, Je T'Aime, je T'Aime.
• 1967 best veel dingen in mijn top: The Fearless Vampire Killers, The Producers, Point Blank, Cool Hand Luke, The Wild Bunch, Quatermass and the Pit, Spider Baby, Django, Weekend. En dan zou het tussen die eerste 2 gaan, allebei echt top iconische komedies.

En dan vandaag... Ik begin heel wat minder gezien te hebben, maar mijn lijstje is direct Seconds, Django, Cul-de-sac, Kill Baby Kill. Maar zelfs al hou ik niet van westerns, de stem gaat toch naar
