OFFICIAL: INTER SIGN LUCIO
In a surprise move, Lucio has terminated his contract with Bayern Munich in order to join Inter, announced the German club.
“After a trophy-laden five-year spell at Bayern, Brazil captain Lucio is leaving Munich to join Italian champions Inter Milan,” read a statement on their website.
“On Thursday, the centre-half and the FCB board of directors agreed to cancel the player’s contract ahead of its scheduled expiry on 30 June 2010.
“The 31-year-old, who will sign a three-year deal with the north Italian club coached by Jose Mourinho, moves for an undisclosed fee.”
Lucio has been with Bayern since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2004, taking the Bundesliga and Cup double in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
Mourinho had protested this week at the squad given to him and warned he wanted “a centre-half who can play the ball.”
Lucio fits the bill and has been brought in to reinforce the Nerazzurri in their Champions League ambitions.
There is no statement yet on the official Inter website, as some details and a medical must be finalised before he can sign for his new club.
“The clubs have struck a deal, and the player has agreed terms with Milan,” announced Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness.
Lucio is due in Milan for a medical before the end of this week, “and if that’s fine, he’ll sign his new contract.
“After the Confederations Cup, it was his express wish to leave Bayern if a major club came in for him.
“Naturally, we’re sad he’s leaving the club. Lucio has put in outstanding work here.”

Toch?
Cristiano wilt wel nie blijkbaar.Only one Ronaldo: Cristiano refuses to wear 'C' on his back as Real Madrid fans cash in on his namesake's shirt
And it has emerged he rejected a plan to have 'C. Ronaldo' on his new No 9 shirt, which would have distinguished him from plain old Ronaldo - the Brazil legend who wore the same shirt until just over three years ago.
It is feared that dropping the 'C' means thrifty fans can use their old Madrid merchandise rather than help fund the eye-watering transfer, though it hasn't stopped next season's jersey flying out of the shops.
Inter: First Lucio, now Hleb?
While Inter warn Lucio has not agreed personal terms, there are strong reports they have secured Alexandre Hleb from Barcelona.
The Nerazzurri have been relatively quiet on the transfer market this summer, but suddenly burst into life today.
First Bayern Munich announced that Lucio had terminated his contract in order to join Inter, then reports on Sky Italia stated Barcelona were handing over Belarus international Hleb.
The former Arsenal midfielder is set to arrive at San Siro on loan with the option to buy at the end of the season.
It is the second deal to be struck with Barca in less than 24 hours, as late last night full-back Maxwell was sold to the Spaniards for £3m.
Meanwhile, Inter continue to release denials that Lucio has already agreed personal terms.
“The negotiations for Lucio are not definitive and there is nothing official,” insisted President Massimo Moratti on the official club website.
