Archief - Ubuntu dual screen problemen

Na wat gepruts heb ik dual screen werkende gekregen op Ubuntu Dapper Drake (TwinView), maar met enkele problemen. Kleine schets van de monitor-situatie:

Syncmaster 710t dvi
Optimale resolutie: 1280x1024@60hz
HorizSync: 30-81kHZ
VertSync: 56-75Hz
Staat links, bedoeld als hoofdmonitor.

Hitachi CML171SXW agp (avg? da blauw ding)
Optimale resolutie: 1280x1024@Hz
HorizSync: 31.5-60kHZ
VertSync: 56-75Hz
Staat rechts.

Graka is een Geforce 6660GT.

Het probleem is dat X opstart op het rechtse scherm (login scherm staat rechts), alhoewel ik de menubalk naar links heb kunnen slepen staat het niet zo mooi. Als ik "Option "TwinViewOrientation" "CRT-0 RightOf DFP-0"" verander in "Option "TwinViewOrientation" "CRT-0 LeftOf DFP-0" (niet erg logisch maar enfin) dan start het wél op op het linkse scherm maar dan werkt mijn muis niet echt meer. Ik moet dan naar de linkerkant van het linkse scherm scrollen om op het rechtse scherm uit te komen. Nu, op zich niet zo'n probleem, maar als ubuntu de beide monitoren verwart, wisselt het dan ook niet de refreshrates om?
Die Syncmaster krijgt de info van EDID denk ik; vermits het de enige van de twee is waar de info beschikbaar is in Nvidia X settings, de andere is gewoon "CRT-0". Maar als voor dat ander scherm geen EDID beschikbaar is, waar krijgt het dan zijn refresh rates van? Gewoon een gokje?

Is het trouwens ook mogelijk om een extensie van de takenbalk te krijgen op het 2de scherm? Ultramon achtig, dus als ik iets naar een ander scherm sleep dan komt het op de takenbalk van dat scherm.

With the nvdivia drivers when an analogue and digital monitor are both connected, the analogue monitor always becomes the primary monitor where the login screen and desktop menues appear by default. They added an xorg.conf setting (TwinViewXineramaInfoOrder) in the 1.0-9xxx drivers which allows you to fix this.

If you aren't already, you'll need to be running the 1.0-9xxx drivers and add this in your device section of your xorg.conf:

I installed the 1.0-9629 drivers by following method 2 here and things are working fine with my login screen on my DVI connected monitor. There is info in this thread about how to add respositories to get the latest nvidia drivers, but I don't think the person who manages those has done the package for Dapper yet. I think the only current option to get the 1.0-9629 drivers on Dapper is to follow method 2 in the instructions I linked to above.
