editDear Anonymous
Thank you for pointing out this fascinating video. [he refers to "Onward the road to March 15th"]
One question - in the USA, is the "Church of Scientology" registered as a religious organisation? Could not the IRS claim that, in giving special dispensation to the CoS (as shown in the video) it was merely doing business with a commercial organisation, and, therefore, not favouring one religion over others?
My main interest, however, is in the CoS' activities in the UK, and especially any initiatives, which might be seen as political. I have checked the Charity Commission's register for "Church of Scientology" and found no entry; so, presumably, CoS receives no special benefit, in Britain, from its claim to be a church.
Here in Brussels, where I work, the CoS has a very imposing HQ, from which - again, presumably - it hopes to influence the institutions of the EU (to the fundamentally undemocratic nature of which my Party is inveterately opposed) I would also be interested, therefore, in any headway the CoS might be making with the Commission, Council etc.
The question is - apart from being a thoroughly unpleasant, unprincipled, socially-corrosive confidence-trick - is the CoS able to exert undue, politically significant influence, in Britain or the EU? If so, that would provide me with a target.
Yours sincerely
