Het archief is een bevroren moment uit een vorige versie van dit forum, met andere regels en andere bazen. Deze posts weerspiegelen op geen enkele manier onze huidige ideeën, waarden of wereldbeelden en zijn op sommige plaatsen gecensureerd wegens ontoelaatbaar. Veel zijn in een andere tijdsgeest gemaakt, al dan niet ironisch - zoals in het ironische subforum Off-Topic - en zouden op dit moment niet meer gepost (mogen) worden. Since the advertisement of the repurchase of ATI by AMD, much of information and questions circulate as for becoming mark ATI and of its various activities. As one could fear it, Gareth Cater, a spokesman of AMD, indicated to our fellow-members of Custom PC that the new company, resulting from the repurchase, would baptize AMD well. Many will regret this choice but it appeared unfortunately inevitable within the framework of such a transaction. Questioned on becoming to it Radeon mark, the interested party declares that no decision was still taken on this subject. And to add: “I will be however personellement surprised that we give up one of these names of product. The name of company ATI will disparaitra on the other hand”. It appears indeed not very probable that AMD draws a cross on a mark as strong and recognized as Radeon. We are thus likely to soon see appearing graphics boards AMD Radeon. Chris Hook, person in charge for the relations presses European ATI declares on his side “I do not have emotional attachment particular to the mark. I think that the important thing is that we will make good products. ATI east cannot be more, but there are many discussions on the remainder of our marks and their forces”. Update with 15h29: AMD finally contradicted this information, specifying that the remarks reported by Custom PC had been badly interpreted. One of the persons in charge for the firm to the green logo thus specified that: “AMD did not have as a project to leave side mark ATI. The name of ATI will continue to exist at the sides of AMD, just like the Radeon marks and the other marks related to products ATI. AMD connait very well the capacity, the value of the marks and ATI is a mark very recognized in the world of data processing. We thus will preserve it”.

Volgens mij zullen er mettertijd wel chipsets verschijnen onder het AMD-merk die eigenlijk van ATI's labs komen. Ik verwacht dat het vooral om de lower-end chipsets zal gaan en dat die gericht zullen zijn op de professionele gebruikers.
Het is best interessant om consumentenproducten onder een aparte merknaam te verkopen. Enthousiast-producten worden in de professionele markt vaak als "amateuristisch" aanzien en daarom gemeden (voornamelijk bij KMO's: de markt waar de grootste winsten worden genoteerd BTW).
Uiteindelijk gaat het 'm om de kwaliteit van de producten... welk merknaam erop plakt boeit mij niet bepaald.
