Raph, a brave explorer, and his companions have crash-landed in a mysterious corner of a strange planet. Now Raph must hunt for the spare parts needed to fix their skyship - and save his girlfriend too!

Fortunately, our hero has access to the amazing GEMMA - the 'Gyroscopic Exploration Multidimensional Multiterrain Apparatus'. It's a small explorer vehicle that works like a spinning top - which is perfect for the crazy part of the world our characters are trapped in.

Ok, i've just had a quick go - from the main menu there's Story Mode which sees you progress through the levels attempting to locate all the parts of your missing ship, then there's Arcade Mode which has about 10 or so unique challenge levels to unlock, and finally there's online leaderboards for both modes. Also, Arcade Mode lets you play split-screen multiplayer and there's a Online Store menu option that gives a glimpse at the next episode of Topatoi.

While the loading takes a bit of time for a downloadable game, the graphics are pretty nice (can't say the same about the character art and models though, fugly) with a ton of lush and vibrant colours. The couple of levels i've played have all involved simple platforming and block puzzles, combined with the abillity to control the speed of your gyroscope - already i've seen it applied to simple uses like accelerating to pass up a steep slope, accelerating to gain extra velocity in mid-air and a combination of accelerating and decelerating to swiftly navigate maze-like paths - presumably more advances uses will be introduced further into the game.

I'll post some more impressions once i've played it a bit more, but so far it seems like a fun, relaxing little puzzle adventure, definetly worth the slightly steep price if you're a fan of these sorts of games.

Since the game is released in the US for $9.99, we felt it’s unfair to keep the old price tag in other regions.

We just got word from Boolat that they have patched the controls for Topatoi. The new patch, available now, allows for easier movement with the game taking care of the transmission. The old control scheme is still there if players want that infuriatingly-difficult-to-control feeling but the “casual” scheme is now the default.

On top of that, Boolat have announced a bundle deal of €9.99/$13.99 (no sterling price quoted) for both episodes of the game which is coming to the store on April 8th.
