Mensen die nog niet gehoord hebben van The Secret World, de nieuwe MMORPG van Funcom, moeten zich dringend gaan informeren! Want vertel het rond, Dark Days are Coming! En we zijn er maar beter klaar voor!
The Secret World is een Action-Adventure MMORPG in ontwikkeling door het team dat The Longest Journey en Dreamfall gemaakt heeft (m.a.w. een ander team dan Age of Conan), onder leiding van Ragnar Tørnquist (de man die de term "Modern Adventure" gecoined heeft).
Het spel vindt plaats in een soort alternate reality van onze hedendaagse wereld en is hevig geïnspireerd door oude mysteries en moderne conspiracy theories. The Secret World mengt MMO-elementen met die van Alternate Reality Games, iets wat al van in het begin duidelijk werd gemaakt door de tientallen raadsels die afgevuurd zijn op de community.


Er is nog maar weinig bekend over deze aankomende MMO, maar vandaag wordt er heel wat info gereleased over het spel!

De officiële aankondiging van vorig jaar:

If you're unaware of Funcom's newest project, The Secret World, it's about time you knew that the secret is about to be unveiled. Forget the stigma associated with Funcom and Age of Conan, and consider the fact that The Secret World comes to us from Ragnar Tørnquist, the man behind The Longest Journey and Dreamfall. The unraveling of clues that lead up to this game's reveal is impressive, but not as impressive as the fact that The Secret World's community is comprised of some of the most intelligent gamers you'll find this side of EVE. We have games that are hardcore for strategists, games that are hardcore for economists, games that are hardcore for the combat-savvy, but with The Secret World, we will finally get an MMO that was made for the hardcore conspiracy theorists, history buffs and puzzle solvers out there.

Case in point, a recent teaser video was released showing certain decipherable codes that led to a new Alternate Reality Game website called Sanctuary of Secrets. Leave it up to the TSW community to crack the codes and discover the hidden secrets. Of course Funcom has not officially commented on their involvement with this site, but it goes to show the passion brewing in the people anticipating this game. Ever since our demo at GDC last month, we've been itching to let our readers know what's in store. Tomorrow the embargo will lift and everything we know will be revealed, so stay tuned!

Vandaag is het embargo opgeheven en wordt alle informatie over de game die de pers gekregen heeft op GDC vrijgegeven.
Momenteel nog maar 1 video, maar meer komt nog, ik hou de post updated in elk geval :)

Ziet er heel indrukwekkend uit, en het concept spreekt me heel erg aan.
Het valt alleen af te wachten of het al die ideëen zal kunnen waarmaken, en of het er uit zal uitspringen tussen al die concurrentie die er momenteel is tussen de MMO's.

Coole cinematic trailer. Die stem van die narator in andere trailer lijkt dezelfde persoon die de movie trailers doet.

Ik denk wel dat ze er best aan doen zo veel mogelijk te verzwijgen dat funcom er iets mee te maken heeft of ze verliezen al klanten voor ze begonnen zijn, ook al is het een ander team.

edit: lol had comments erover nog niet gezien om massively voor ik dit schreef en het is dus wat ik dacht. Iedereen "oh tof, ziet er goed uit, ah funcom , nvm ;p"

Ik snap het ook niet helemaal,maar het hele concept van de game draait volgens mij om die raadsels.
In ieder geval is het een frisse aanpak voor een MMO,en ik hoop dat Funcom er geen zootje van maakt

This project started before Age of Conan, but what have you learned from Age of Conan's launch that you can apply to this?

*laughs* I knew that question was coming! But no, you're right, the original project, called Cabal, started in 2002. I think that Conan had a pretty good launch and it's holding incredibly well. I mean it's one of the best selling PC games in the last year, which is really fantastic.

In terms of a launch, Anarchy Online had a horrible launch, but the game was pretty deep. Once they actually fixed all of the bugs, the game has obviously lived ever since and is still going strong. With Conan, they had a pretty smooth launch, but I think people realized that aspects of the game weren't quite what they had hoped for or what they had expected.

I think a combination of those two launches shows us the importance of not only a technically perfect launch, in terms of server uptime and things like that, but to also have a game that's proven to work for a long time, to have a longer beta period, to make sure that we're very very confident about the RPG system, and to invest that extra time. I think that's our team's takeaway; to be absolutely sure that we have the content and the mechanics that will support people for a long time and not just for that initial launch month.

We really, really respect alot of what the Conan guys have done, and I think the combat system worked really well, and I think there are elements of that game that we are taking away. With that said, we are a different team and we had our designs in place before Conan was launched, and we have made our decisions and we feel those are the right ones. Hopefully Conan will live for a long time and hopefully we will be able to live peacefully with them and not cut into their player base, as we are two completely different games.

If you guys can help me - then help me. Call it repaying an old debt.
You almost got me killed. Or call it playing a game, because by the
looks of things, you like to play games.

I'll do you a favor in return. The Sanctuary of Secrets? Bunch of
idiots. Trust me, I should know. They're not malicious, just stupid.
They're children. They think they can save the world by spreading
information. By documenting secrets. No. This world, if it can be
saved at all, will be saved by people keeping their mouths shut. It's
worked so far.

The Secret World heeft momenteel meer dan 100 voice actors :eek:

Ragnar said that the game currently has a voice cast of more than 100 actors, and that they've recorded in cities around the globe, including New York and London. This sounds similar to Funcom's adventure game Dreamfall, which had a stellar voice cast that was also assembled from around the globe

Jij kunt in de toekomst kijken?Ik ga het spel in ieder geval eens uitproberen,enkel en alleen omdat het eens iets anders is dan altijd maar die Fantasy settings.

Qua spelers-aantal gaan ze dat niet eens proberen..
BioWare mikt heel hard op de WoW-markt met SW:TOR, het gaat ook een story-based MMO worden, maar op een heel andere manier dan The Secret World. TSW is eerder een action-adventure MMO met een verhaal dat community gericht is, terwijl SW:TOR een eerder traditionele MMO wordt met een een verhaal dat eerder single-player gericht is.
TSW heeft de mogelijkheid om een groot publiek aan te spreken vanwege de setting en het verhaal. Ze spreken ook een ander publiek aan als SW:TOR, dus echt echt concurrentie is het niet.
En er zijn niet echt andere top-titels in aantocht in die time-frame eigenlijk..

En ook, als Funcom TSW slimmer aanpakt dan AoC - wat ze blijkbaar doen - wordt TSW de eerste MMO op de xbox 360. Als ze daar deftig kunnen releasen: $$$

Laten we dan hopen dat ze het niet supersimpel maken zodat het ook op de X360 goed speelbaar zou zijn.

Het is nog steeds primair een pc spel, maar ze ontwikkelen het wel als cross-platform. Het is niet omdat ze het toegankelijk maken voor consoles dat het daarom super-simpel is.. Zaken zoals quests enzo zullen waarschijnlijk eerder in cut-scenes gegeven worden dan in een klein kadertje met tekst bvb. Vandaar ook die gigantische voice-cast :p

Maar to be honest, er is nog maar heeeel erg weinig van het spel geweten, we hebben nog geen echt in-game materiaal gezien, dus het is allemaal wat giswerk nu.
Enige dat we weten is dat hun verhaal énorm sterk is, ik raad mensen zeker aan om eens naar de forums te gaan en de verhalen en puzzels te lezen die al zijn opgelost. Het is echt cool :)

patchen is niet moeilijker dan op pc hoor. Xbox Live is als het ware een universeel update platform die automatisch patches installeert voor je X360 spellen.
Zowat de Steam van Consoles, alleen met meer geldtrekkerij :)
