Archief - The 9Lives WoW Guide - Tips, Tricks, Lvlguides, lvlbuilds...

you see this vendor in terrokar forrest in the horde town Smile

now how you get these mysterious shards ??? easy !

you get togheter a decent equipped 5 man team and capture all towers in the bone wastes in terrokar forrest (spirittowers: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/worldpvp/outland.html)

doing so will grand you a 6 hour buff wich gives you for example 5% extra xp Smile

this makes it so that when you down a boss in manatombs or the crypts that every partymember can loot a spiritshard, these can be turned it at the vendor for nice rewards !

Mount Hiyal Attunement.

You must be level 70

Complete Caverns of Time: Durnholde (Old Hillsbrad) and Complete

Caverns of Time: Dark Portal (Black Morass).

Talk to Soridormi (Adult) - the consort of Nozdormu. You may find her roaming around the clockwork in Caverns of Time. She will give you a quest titled: The Vial's of Eternity. However, this is no 1-2-3 immediate quest. To acquire the two vials of eternity requires the completition of many quest chains that will take months to accomplish and good gear.

You must complete the Cipher of Damnation quest chain in Shadowmoon Valley and the Stormspire quests in Netherstorm. The Stormspire quest chain starts in Area 52 with the Consortium Ethereal. The chain ends when Nexus-Prince Harammad sends you to A'dal with a crystal. Maybe you should have talked to Akama at the Warden's Cage in Shadowmoon Valley.

A'dal will give you the Arcatraz Key quest: The crystal key is divided in two halves. The first half is held by the last boss of Tempest Keep: Botanica - Splintertree. The second half is held by the last boss of Tempest Keep: Mechanar. Once you assemble the Arcatraz Key and have completed the two quest chains: Stormspire and Cipher of Damnation -- Khadgar will talk to you, asking you to talk to A'dal. A'dal will give you the Kael'Thas dungeon key chain quest. The key is named Tempest Key - for the final showdown with Prince Kael'Thas Sunstrider.

Brace yourself - - you need to be revered with the Sha'tar Reputation faction to obtain the Tempest Keep Heroic-Dungeon key, Revered with the Lower City to obtain the Auchenai Key to unlock the Auchindoun Dungeons in Heroic-mode, Revered with the Cenarion Expedition to unlock the Heroic-mode for Coilfang Reservoir dungeons, and Revered with Thrallmar/Honor Hold to unlock the Heroic-mode Difficulty for Hellfire Citadel dungeons. Hope you have had fun reading this far.

Complete Trial of the Naaru: Mercy; Trial of the Naaru: Strength; and Trial of the Naaru: Tenacity. No easy task ... for you have to complete the three trials in Heroic-mode. Trash mobs hit for 15,000 non-crit damage, no less. You have to kill Murmur in Auchindoun: Shadow Laberynth, retrieve an unused Axe of the Executioner from Hellfire Citadel: Shattered Halls, Kalithresh's Trident in Coilfang Reservoir: Steamvaults, and to rescue Millhouse Manastorm (gnome) after killing the last boss of Tempest Keep: Arcatraz. Once you have completed those four dungeons in Heroic-mode, return to A'dal and he will grant you the Tempest Key to enter Prince Kael'Thas dungeon -- which requires 25 players. Kill Kael'Thas and loot his Vial of Eternity.

Now you need to kill Lady Vashj and loot her Vial of Eternity. No data has been gathered concerning the requirements to enter Lady Vashj's dungeon.

By now you should be Friendly with the Scales of the Sands faction.

Now you can enter Caverns of Time: Mount Hyjal

Help 24 friends do the quest so you can actually form a raid.

Traveling the world of Azeroth is always more enjoyable with a little friend by your side. Thus, World of Warcraft allows players to summon a vanity pet (also called a non-combat (NC) pet) for a little extra company. This critter will cheerfully follow you wherever your travels take you.

This guide answers common questions for those new to NC pets. It also provides a complete bestiary (a work-in-progress) for all of the pet enthusiasts out there. So if you're looking for the perfect traveling companion to accentuate your character, you've come to the right place!

A: Vanity pets will loyally follow you around while you are traveling by foot or mount, regardless of your speed. They'll follow you anywhere, indoors or out, dangerous or otherwise, but they retreat to their cages when you hop a flight (even if the pet can fly).

At this time, only one vanity pet provides a small buff (or in this case, a debuff) when summoned. See Disgusting Oozling for details.

Q: Where can I get a vanity pet?
A: Vendors, drops, quest rewards, engineering recipes, auction houses, and through special promotions by Blizzard. This guide provides the location of drops and vendors for every known vanity pet. It also explains which pets can be obtained through what quests. Many vanity pets can be purchased through the auction house (AH), but prices greatly vary.

Q: Is there a level requirement for owning a vanity pet?
A: No, however some quests with NC pet rewards will be unavailable to you until you reach an appropriate level.

Q: Can I sell my vanity pet to another player?
A: Many vanity pets are BoP (soulbound on pickup). Others are BoU (soulbound when used). If you haven't summoned the pet, you can sell it or trade it to other players (assuming it was not a BoP item). Most unwanted soulbound pets can be sold to a vendor.

Q: How many vanity pets can I own?
A: You can own as many vanity pets as you wish, but you may only have one active at a time.

Q: Can warlocks and hunters have a non-combat pet active while their combat pet is summoned?
A: Yes. This allows hunters and warlocks to travel the world with their own little posse in tow. Fo' shizzle.

Q: Can I name my vanity pet?
A: Not at this time. But maybe someday... (pretty please Blizzard?)

Q: Do I have to feed my vanity pet?
A: No. Amazingly, these little guys keep on trucking without a drop of water or an ounce of food. They are the envy of all hunters.

Q: Are vanity pets class or faction specific?
A: For the most part, no. Any class or faction can summon any pet. However, some BoP quest reward vanity pets are only available to one faction or another, preventing the opposing faction from ever obtaining that pet. Furthermore, certain mechanical pets are BoP and can only be used by the engineers who build them.

Q: Can my vanity pet be killed?
A: Yes and no. They can't be killed by other players and mobs directly, but they can be fried by some area-of-effect spells and effects. You want that whelpling regular or extra crispy?

AUTHOR'S NOTE

In real life, I love all kinds of animals. I'm thrilled that the developers of WoW have provided a way for players to enjoy some fantastic and wonderful pets in-game. No, they don't do anything extraordinary. But they do provide ambiance and fun. A rogue with a snake in tow; a moonkin with an owl close behind; a female warlock accompanied by a black cat; a hunter with his trusty "hunting" worg pup. When coupled with certain races, classes or genders, many pets provide a "coolness" factor that can't be reproduced by any other means.

So if you have yet to embrace a little critter of your own, check out the bestiary and discover the perfect pet for your toon!

Enchants

Introduction
Start with 1000 gold… just kidding … sort of. First of all what is a twink? Simply, in this article, it is a toon geared for Warsong Gulch (WSG) at level 19 with all the best gear AND with high level enchants.

Why Twink a toon?
Because it is fun.
If you have been in WSG with an untwinked toon and you got pwned (owned) and you want to build a twink so you can rule single handedly and you want everyone to see your name at the top of the stat sheet, then in my opinion, you are starting off with the wrong idea of what twinking is all about. The real reason you should build a twink is to help your team capture the flag, and gain reputation with either the Silverwing Sentinels or the Horde’s Outrunners.
Getting the best gear
There are several ways to obtain the best gear for your twink. You get the best gear either by buying it on the Auction House, farming for it, or doing quests that reward you with the gear you want. Additionally you can get a medallion, a ring, and weapons that will help you in WSG by increasing your reputation with your faction. Last of all you can get your faction’s insignia only by gaining rank.
There are 3 ranks you can attain at level 19, but all you need for your faction’s insignia is to get to rank 2 and you do that by getting honorable kills (HKs) in WSG. After that HKs mean very little. Please, save yourself some time and others grief - don’t make your main goal in WSG to farm HKs, farm flag caps or get your HKs from preventing others from stealing your flag. You will come to this realization eventually. Be smart; do it now.
The insignia helps you to get out of many confining situations like being sheeped or iced.
The medallion, ring, and weapons we mentioned can be obtained by becoming honored or revered with your faction. When you gain enough reputation which increases with flag captures you will be allowed to purchase these items that have great stats for around 2 to 3 gold. When you become revered you can buy choice weapons, all with primo stats.
Twinking is expensive
Twinking is expensive and in the present situation (summer of 2006) buying twink gear and having them enchanted is costly. Keeping the toon supplied with consumable potions and aids is also expensive. Be prepared for it. Don’t try to twink a toon if you are not going to go all out. The term Budget Twink is a misnomer. Most twinkers have a high level main to support their twink. With a high level toon you can trade off helping a friend twink and run quests and instances together. This is a popular method and one I recommend. However, I will offer suggestions for the poor twinker with no main just in case a reader finds himself in that situation.
Deciding to twink
Twinking a toon at level 19 is harder than other levels because there seems to be more required BOP items and there is, of course, fewer levels to obtain everything. If you are level 17 when you decide to twink, it is too late. Start over, roll a new toon, or take this toon on to 29. It is too late to get all the good stuff, though it is possible to have a decent toon for WSG if you have help. However, you will always be dissatisfied when you find yourself getting pwnd by a level 19 toon that is fully twinked-out and you are not. Even fully twinked-out, you will get pwnd by an excellent player. There is always someone better, smarter, faster, and cleverer than we are. When you enter Warsong Gulch, leave your ego at the door.
Reason for this guide
I write this guide partly for myself and partly to share my experiences to the end that in the future it may help both of us to save some time while twinking a toon and to avoid abortions. Your toon is a fetus or better a ‘feedus’ until it has all the best gear and enchants.
I presently have or am working on…too many feeduses (this is not a good idea). If you have twinked a toon before this guide may not help you. This guide will only lightly cover what builds you need. There are plenty of existing guides that do a great job at that. My advice is to read the forums a lot. This guide in its current scope will generally suggest what to do, when to do it, and how to do it, to ensure you have all the required stuff (not necessarily all the stuff) you need before you arrive at level 19. Once you are 19 with the required gear then you will be in a position to swap out BOE items, add enchants, and twiddle with builds.
Don’t twink alone if at all possible
As you can guess, it is really tough if not impossible trying to twink alone; you need friends and/or you need a guild to help you. If you don’t have a friend, then join a guild.
Don’t join a guild expecting them to give you gold to twink. Do not ask for gold to help you twink. Do join a guild expecting to contribute something to what the guild is about. Lending/ borrowing money in-game sucks like it does in real life. Guilds who invest in your future deserve a pay back; stick with them and support their goals.
How to use this guide
Read the guide through once before you start your toon skipping the classes that don’t apply to you. Then as you begin leveling up, read each section by level to see what you need to do for that level. If you have read all the material once, then when you go back to a section hopefully all you need to read is the To Do list. Most of the items in the To Do lists are delineated in the text below it.

Plan your toon
Now that that is out of the way let’s get down to business. I assume you have already decided on a faction (Horde/Alliance) and a class. Even before you start your toon, read the forums and determine what gear you will want to have on your twink. I use http://wow.allakhazam.com/forum.html?cat=107 as a general learn-your-class forum. The mind set there is generally level 60 (pre expansion). I also really like http://www.battlegroundforums.com/forum/index.php . This forum is dedicated to twinks and I really like to see what other twinks have to say.
Use Microsoft Word, an Excel spread sheet or Notepad but put down your toon’s slots, like: head, neck, shoulder… etc. or cut and past one of the samples I have provide below. In fact, past it twice and put up a heading above the second one called ‘Shopping list’. In the upper list write down all the stuff you currently have. In the Shopping list put down all the stuff you want, whether it is BOP or BOE, and where to get it.
Gear considerations
Be aware that there are a verity of choices for gear and weapons. I can not list them all. My best effort here is to try and give a new person to twinking a middle of the road build guide. Once you get the hang of building a twink, please be imaginative and experiment. The term ‘the best gear’ is really relative to your build and your play style. There is no one best build; but there probably is a best for you. I don’t know what that is; but hopefully this guide will get you close. Just because I list a few gear sets for level 19 twinks, don’t think it is chiseled in stone, use this as a guide and not as gospel. Also, I am still learning and I always find people suggesting better stuff. As this article age’s new patches will come out with new gear. It is up to you to find the latest stuff. Blizz has really made things so there are a wide variety of choices. The gear that I have chosen are ones I have found that twinks I have inspected have chosen so you can’t go too far wrong using my suggestions as a starting point.

For the gear listed use:
http://wow.allakhazam.com/
Or
http://www.thottbot.com/
to check out each piece of gear for their stats and + values.
The terms BOP and BOE stand for:
BOP = Bind on Pickup. It is a random drop and you have to be there to pick up the item. You will get XP when the mob is killed unless you are dead.
BOE = Bind on Equip. They bind when you put them on. You can buy these items from the Auction House and will not get XP from buying it or putting it on.
Quest = It is BOP, but you are guaranteed to get the item by finishing the quest or series of quests one time.
HTF = Hard to find items on the auction house. You may have to buy the alternate item first while you wait for your desired item to show up on the AH. This may vary by server and some items may be HTF and I have not discovered it yet and marked it as such.
Tools to help you see which gear is best for you
This part is very important. Each class can tune their toon differently especially casters. When you decide what you want to do like adding +Healing or +Damage gear and my suggestion shows more than one alternative, then go to http://ctprofiles.net/ and create a character and load one set of suggested gear. This web site will allow you to swap gear in and out and will show you the stat changes. So, you can watch your total health and your Intellect or Stamina change or what ever you are focusing on and you will be able to determine what the best gear set is for you. I often get surprised when I like the stats on one piece of gear and find out another piece really is better for me.

Suggestions for Mage Gear: (Favored stats: Intellect, Stamina, and Spirit)
For a Mage at level 19 you can go either frost or fire. Frost is best for Crowed Control (CC). Fire is best for one on one. Basically get a complete set of gear with the epithet ‘of the eagle’. Then if you want to specialize, pick up some + Frost or +Fire gear. If you go straight + damage gear, you will be what is called a glass cannon. In Warsong Gulch things move so fast that you will be more glass than cannon unless you know how to stay out of the way. Use a macro to swap the ‘of the Eagle’ gear in and out with the +dmg gear until you feel you have a good combination that fits your style of play.

Siilence suggest: If u've got the right gear and some knowledge of how to play a mage then fire is the way to go, and dont stack +fire dmg gear because you will get 2 shotted most of the time, yea u'll do good dps but dps means nothing when ur dead..

Suggestions for Priest Gear:
(Be careful when buying items with the epithet ‘of the Eagle’ There are usually 3 choices of stats. Be sure to get the ones with the highest stats for both attributes)
Some Priests pick up Mage fire gear and can really kick bucket as well as heal. But, I tell you what. People expect Priest to heal. For WSG forget DPS and enhance you healing and your crowd control (CC) skills.
Head: Lucky Fishing Hat (BOP) or make Shadow Goggles, or Green Tinted until you get the LFH (+100 hp Libram of Constitution)
Neck: Sentinel's Medallion (Rank2) Alliance reward for being honored
Neck: Scout's Medallion (Rank2) Horde reward for being honored
Shoulders: Talbar Mantle (6 Int, 3 Stam, Quest: A-In Nightmares, H-In Nightmares)

Bracers: Bright Bracers (BOE, 16 armor, 4 Int), Shimmering Bracers of the Eagle (BOE, 15 Armor, 2 Int, 2 Stam), or of Healing (+9 Healing) Greenweave Bracers of the Eagle (BOE, 15 Armor, 2 Int, 2 Stam), or of Healing (+9 Healing) (+9 Stam enchant)
Gloves: Magefist Gloves (BOE, 23 Armor, 3 Stam, 4 Spirit, 5 Int), Gnoll Casting Gloves with +6 healing (BOE), (+30 Healing enchant)
Leggings: Darkweave Breeches (BOE, 35 Armor, 6 Spi, 7 Int, 4 Stam) (+100 hp Libram of Constitution)
Belt: Keller's Girdle (BOE, 23 Armor, 8 Int, 3 Stam)
Feet: Sanguine Sandals (BOE, 26 Armor, 4 Int, 4 Stam, HTF), Greenweave Sandals of the Eagle (BOE, 25 Armor, 4 Int, 4 Stam, HTF), Bright Boots (BOE, 25 Armor, 5 Stam, 5 Spirit), (Speed enchant or +7 Stam)
Ring: Advisor's Ring, (Horde) Seal of Sylvanas (8 Stam, 3 Str, Quest: Arugal Must Die), Seal of Wrynn (4 Stam, 3 Spi, 3 Agi, 3 Str, 4 Int, Alliance Quest: The Unsent Letter), Blood Ring (BOE 5 Stam),
Trinket: Insignia of the Alliance/Horde (Rank 2), Arena Grand Master (Win/Steal, 550 xp).
Main Hand: Staff of the Blessed Seer (up to 24 Healing), Twisted Chanters Staff (BOE), Emberstone Staff (+22 Int, or +55 Healing enchant) Note: +22 Int generally better.
Off-hand: Gravestone Scepter (Quest : H-Blackfathom Villainy, A-Blackfathom Villainy)

Note: Some folks recommend the Mindthrust Bracers, and the Black Widow Band. Together they give you + 16 Int and – 10 Stam. -10 Stam = -100hp. That is equal to over 150g Libram. Play with it in http://ctprofiles.net/ and see if it is worth it to you. Essentially they are sacrificing life for healing power which is ok if you know what you are doing.

Suggestions for Druid Gear:
(Be careful when buying items with the epithet ‘of the …’ There are usually 3 choices of stats. Be sure to get the ones with the highest stats for both attributes)
Level 19 Druid
The Druid dilemma is that you can be:
1- Damage Dealer (Caster and Bear)
2- Flag runner
3- Healer
Unless you are exceptional, you can’t do all three well.
Suggestion #1: Throw out the idea of being a damage dealer. Let the Rogues, Warriors, and Hunters do that. By eliminating DPS your life will be much more manageable. Now, Flag runner and Healer have two totally different requirements. Flag runner needs armor and stamina. The Healer needs intellect and stamina or spirit.
Suggestion #2: Go flag runner and healer and get two sets of gear. Get one set of gear with the epithet ‘of the Eagle’ (Int, Stam). Get another set of gear with ‘of the Monkey’ (Agi, Stam). Agility will affect a number of attributes that you need. You could also pick up some +healing gear.
Suggestion #3: Go strictly flag runner and look for high stamina and intellect gear.
Go to http://ctprofiles.net/ and create a profile and swap out the suggested gear until you see the stats you like that fit your play style. You should have between 1300 and 1800 hp.
Only Classes: Tauren, Night Elf
Head: Lucky Fishing Hat (BOP), or make Shadow Goggles, or Green Tinted until you get the LFH (Mana +150) or (Lib of Constitution = +100 hp)
Neck: Get the Tarnished Silver Necklace until you can get the Scout's Medallion
Shoulders: Talbar Mantle (6 Int, 3 Stam, Quest: A-In Nightmares, H-In Nightmares)
Back: Sentry Cloak (BOE 5 Stam, 4 Agi), or Engineer's Cloak (5 Stam, 2 Int, Quest: Ziz Fizziks), or Caretaker's Cape(Agility +3) (+70 Armor enchant)
Chest: Blackened Defias Armor (BOP, 11 Stam, 2 Agi, 4 Str), or Tunic of Westfall (5 Stam, 11 Agi, Quest: The Defias Brotherhood) (+100 Health enchant)
Wrist: Wrangler's Wristbands of the Eagle (BOE, 3 Stam, 3 Int, HTF), or Wrangler's Wristbands of the Monkey (BOE, 3 Agi, 3 Stam, HTF), or Wrangler's Wristbands of Stamina (BOE, 5 Stam, HTF ) (+9 Stam enchant)
Hands: Deviate Scale Gloves, Scouting Gloves of the Eagle (BOE, 4Agi, 4 Stam, HTF) or Monkey (Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 30), Rigid Gloves of the Monkey (Enchants:+15 Agility or + 40 Armor)
Belt: Wrangler's Belt of the Eagle (BOE, 4 Int, 4 Stam), or Wrangler's Belt of the Monkey (BOE, 4 Agi, 4 Stam), or Wrangler's Belt of Healing (BOE, +13 Healing)
Legs: Darkweave Breeches (BOE, 6 Spi, 7 Int, 4 Stam), or Leggings of the Fang (BOP, 5 Str, 4 Stam, 9 Agi) (Mana +150 or +100 hp Libram of Constitution)
Feet: Footpads of the Fang (BOE,4 Stam, 4 Agi), Scouting Boots of the Eagle (BOE, 4 Int, 4 STam) (Minor increase to running speed.)
Ring: Advisor's Ring, Seal of Wrynn (4 Stam,3 Spi, 3 Agi, 3 Str, 4 Intellect, Alliance Quest: The Unsent Letter), Blood Ring (BOE, 5 Stam), Meadow Ring of… (BOE, Meadow Ring has 3Agi + 3 of another )
Trinket: Insignia of the Alliance
Trinket: Your Choice
Main hand: Crescent Staff (Quest: Hamuul Runetotem ) /Twisted Chanter’s Staff (22 Int, or 30 Dmg Spell) (BOE) (Increases healing done by spells and effects by up to 55.) or Emberstone Staff (flag runner)
+94 healing with some nice armor and health in bear form, should server any druid well. Of course you can replace certain green pieces for more feral or healing gear.

This build gets you around more than 1400 hp and is often referred to as the rogue killer build.
As for talents:
5 redoubt, 2 guardian's favor, 3 precision
There you have it. Make sure to do the quest that allows you to resurrect people. I forgot on my pally and I kick myself for it to this day. It comes in handy in world pvp and even in some instances of wsg.

To better plan your toon the following talent builds are provided. As you level from 10 to 19 you should know where to spend your talent points.
Suggested builds
These suggestions are only here incase you really don’t know what to do and to make this guide more complete. You should really figure out your play style, then read the forums, compare with this guide, then make your own decision.

Martydom - 2
Improved Shield - 1

Like the spec - the twinks you will face will crit you with astounding regularity, and Martydom gives you focused casting when you are crited so you can heal yourself. Nice stuff.
And you will be more or less a tank in WSG. Any player who knows anything goes after you first, and with 1500ish HP, you're no easy kill. So you absorb damage while your guys kill them... Funny stuff.

Nature's grasp 1/1
Imp nature's grasp 4/4

Natural shifter 2/3
For 19 I have it set so I can take one melee out 100% with natures grasp outdoors.
Imp roots is awesome do to 100% chance it wont break for damage (ask mages)
Natural shifter just cuts mana cost for shifting which you will do often getting out of all movement impairing effects. Anyways that’s my build for druid 19 flag runner.

Leveling Your Toon:
Levels 1 – 5
To Do List:
All classes – Get to level 5 and get out of town.
.
You can’t screw up yet so have fun. Pick up all the quests you can find. Just do the quests that say kill n number of mobs. Only gather stuff if it is on your way to killing mobs, and it is quick and easy, but mostly forget gathering. Most likely at this stage you are only going to have one bag, so when you get a quest that says kill 10 mobs – keep killing until your bag is full and keep gaining XP. It waists a lot of time running back and forth to pick up and turn in quests. Take on mobs from 1 level below to 1 level above your level. You will reach level 5 before you do all the quests this way. When you reach level 5, or close to it, turn in your completed quests, dump the rest and move on to the next town.
(top)

Levels 5 – 10
To Do List:
1.All classes - Go to a capital city and get weapons training and gathering professions
2.All Classes - Create a Mule ( A toon to send your loot to and sell for you)
3.All Classes - Keep up your training.
4.Hunters – get your pet at level 10
5.Druids - do the Heading the Call quest.
6.All classes – both factions – You can start the Deadmines at level 10 with help.

.
If you are in the category of a new Realm, no friends, and no guild, you need to be thinking about how to make money right out the door. I recommend getting two gathering skills like skinning and mining, or mining and herbalism… something like that.
Players starting out in a new profession need materials. Tailor’s need linen, Leather Workers need leather, Alchemists need herbs, and Engineers need copper, Cooks need Stringy Wolf Meat, Boar Meat, and eggs from the Swoops. Don’t pass up a dog, pig, Swoop, flower, or copper vane (depending on your gathering skills). A stack of meat can bring in nearly 1 gold; the same with a stack of copper on some realms. Hunters need meat and fish for their pets. Don’t pick up a profession too early.
I also recommend creating a new toon just to hang round the mail box and the Auction House (AH), and don’t bother leveling him/her up. While your feedus is in the field just have him/her mail all your loot, except for the gray stuff, to your mule. Sell the gray stuff yourself. Have your mule play the AH to supplement your income. In this period you should be sure to get some 10 or 12 slot bags or 14 slot if you can afford it. You are going to need them when you start the instances (Dungeons).
In most cases where you are born is only 2 cities away from a capital city like Undercity, Ironforge, Stormwind, Darnassus, Thunderbluff, or Orgrimmar. I suggest that after you leave your place of origin that you pass up the next city temporarily and go to the capital city and pick up training on fishing, cooking, and first aid. You can sell the cooked items. You will also need the cooked items as a twink because they will add 8 to your stamina. 1 Stamina = 10 hit points (hp). You can sell the fish and up your fishing skill that you will need later for the Lucky Fishing Hat.
I will contradict myself here a little by saying if you do have help and/or other sources of income then I suggest you also pick up training on Leather Working, Tailoring, Engineering or what ever appeals to you. Otherwise, if you are poor, pick up two gathering professions like mining and herbalizm until you can see your way clear to switch.
Also go to a weapons trainer in every capital city you visit (especially at level 12) to get weapons training. They train different skills in different capital cities. Don’t forget to tag the fly point while you are there.
You should seriously consider taking up Engineering at the proper time. It is expensive though, so don’t drop you gathering professions too soon. You can use the goggles for head gear stats before you get the Lucky Fishing Hat. At level 19 you will max out Engineering at 150. With level 150 you can make explosive sheep. This is very useful in WSG. You can also make bomb and other explosive devices along with guns and crafted shot. No matter what profession you chose, you are not going to make a lot of gold at it or you will have to work hard to make the gold roll in.
Now, go back to the city with the level 5 – 10 quests in it. While you are in the levels between 5 and 10 save one set of raggedy gear by putting it in the bank. All you need are boots, leggings, and chest piece.
At level 10 Druids can do the Heading the Call quest series that leads them to learn to shape shift into bear form. Expect to get a lot of XP; also take hi-level help. Hunters get and do your pet quests.
Explanation
As you will see, I don’t recommend going on an exploration trip to gain exploration xp until level 12. I have done this because your agro range will barely allow you to do this solo until you attain that level. If you have help/escort, you can start the exploration now and you can also start doing the Deadmines at level 10 with help. Adjust my comments according to your circumstance.
If you are Horde and you are going to do the Deadmines, swim up form Booty Bay, or Grom’Gol to Westfall.
(top)

Level 11 (8,800 xp will level you up)
To Do List
1. All Classes - Evaluate you current gear and your gold situation.
.
If you are a Hunter you should have a pet at level 10 and you should know what you want at level 19. Cats and Boars are popular pets in WSG for their stats.
Most of your gear will have come from drops including your weapons. Take a look at it by level 11 and decide if you can live with it for a while or not. Realizing that at level 13 you will begin doing instances that have good weapons and gear drops. It is a delicate balance on deciding whether to spend money on gear/weapons or saving it for twinking. There is no substitute for good gear and weapons to level quickly, but you have to weigh all this against buying bags, travel expenses, and saving for the twink items.
You can really start the items listed in levels 12 & 13 now if you have help. Just don’t start them any later than what I suggest.
(top)

Level 12 (10,100 xp)
To Do List:
1. All Classes - Take a trip and get all your discovery experience now.
.
When I get to level 12 I finish what ever quest I am working on and then I go on a trip - solo. If you have an escort it would be much better. I go to all the fly points I think I will ever need as a 19 twink. Be sure to have about 10 – 15 silver for some flights. I hiked up to Splintertree only to discover I didn’t have enough silver to fly home. Oh! If you are Horde, don’t leave Orgimmar’s back door and head up river to Splintertree. Go to the Barrens and go up the main road.
There are some realms out there that have 19 twink raiding parties; gotta love it. Once you hit level 19 you don’t want to pick up any unnecessary XP from discovering new places if you are going to go raiding.
OK. Let’s go on a trip! But before you go you might want to put your gear in the bank. Get out the raggedy set you saved back at level 5 -10. This way you don’t have to go naked – thank you. You are going to get killed a few times especially if you are on a PVP server and alone. It will cost you several silver to repair your good gear after a run like this, so put them in the bank, and get the raggedy ones out till you get back.
For both Horde and Alliance – take your toon around to the places you will be fishing at for the Lucky Fishing Hat; get that xp now.
If you are Alliance, skip down to the heading For Alliance
The Horde are going to want to tag the fly points at:
Kalimdor: Zoram’gar Outpost, Splintertree Post, Orgrimmar, Crossroads, Taurajo, Thunderbluff, Brackenwall Village, Ratchet, Freewind Post, Gadgetzan
Eastern Kingdom: Undercity, The Sepulcher, Tarren Mill, Grom’gol Base camp, Booty Bay
In most cases you can avoid being killed if you are not in a big hurry and are vigilant. For the most part stay near the main roads but zig zag to avoid mobs.
Getting to Brackenwall Village (Barrens)
This is a special case for lowbees. Leave the Cross Roads or Camp Taurajo heading south past the Field of Giants. If you take the road east from the Gold Road going into Dustwallow Marsh it will be like going through a gauntlet at level 12. There are Stormhides and hyena in the Barrens that come close to that road. Since you have to go in and out the same way getting killed 3 or more times here can be annoying. I like to take a short-cut. On the way down the Gold Road and before you get to the turn-off you will see a gravely hill on the left (East) with monoliths rising out of it. There will be some scorpions and bugs running around there. Continue down the road past this formation a little ways and look for a ridge going up the mountain on the East side. Make your way over to the mountain avoiding Stormhide on one side and scorpions on the other and run up the ridge to the top of the mountain or where it flattens out. While at the top of the mountain run north a little ways and look down into Dustwallow Marsh until you can see a red awning. Look for a way to jump part way down the mountain; you could get killed on a bad jump. Brackenwall Village is close by; go and tag the fly point. Also, you can get 3 first-aid books here from Balai Lok’Wein. She is near the north fence. The Books are 1. Expert First Aid Under Wraps (125). 2. Manual Heavy Silk Bandage (180), & 3. Manual: Mageweave Bandage (210). They will appear red to you but you can buy them now and put them in the bank.
On the way out of Dustwallow Marsh stay to the right (west) side of the road. There are no mobs on the right (hill side). If you stay on the road, alligators will get you. When I get back into the Barrens I keep looking for a short-cut out of there to avoid the gauntlet but I have never found a good one. Weave your way through the gauntlet back to the Gold Road.

Getting to Booty Bay and Grom’gol
This is a special case. What ever you do, do not go down the road through Stranglethorn Vale. Either swim from the Southwest end of Westfall or make your way to Ratchet and take a boat across. Once you get to Booty Bay go up the ramp like you are going to the Alliance fly point (East of the Bank) but instead of going in the door that goes upstairs, go right - down a plank and into the next building to the West. Then go out the North door, you will see a Tauren dude standing there, turn left and go back around the corner to find the Horde Bat Handler.
Once you have tagged the Bat Handler run West across the red roof and jump into the water and swim North past the island with the goblin statue. Stay far enough away from the shore so no mobs appear, but don’t get in the black water. Continue heading north and round the headlands into the Vile Reef; it takes several minutes. You will see a small island with 2 little peaks. Head for that and it will lead you right into Grom’gol. There is a fly point and a Zeppelin there.
For Alliance:
Eastern Kingdom: Southshore, Arathi Highlands, Menethil Harbor , Ironforge, Thelsamar, Stormwind, Lakeshire, Sentinel Hill, Darkshire, Booty Bay
Kalimdor: Rut Theran Village, Auberdine, Astranaar, Stonetalon Peak, Nijel’s Point, Theramore, Ratchet, Thalanar, Gadgetzan
Getting to Booty Bay
This is a special case. What ever you do, do not go down the road through Stranglethorn Vale. Either swim from the Southwest end of Westfall or make your way to Ratchet and take a boat across. Believe me, it is so much faster than going the road way.
By this point you will be about half way or more to level 13 with out having done a quest at level 12.
Both Alliance and Horde be aware of the linked Auction House in Gadgetzan. That is, both Horde and Alliance can buy and sell stuff to each other there but the fee is more like 15% which is higher than the single faction AH.
(top)

Level 13 (11,400 xp)
When we mention doing instances, you should understand that you can’t do them alone at any level below maybe 28. Some higher level or better yet a group has to take you through. The more people that are in the group the more the XP will be diluted or reduced per individual.

To Do List:
1.All classes - Dump all incomplete quests that don’t relate to getting twink gear.
2.All classes - Do Wailing Cavern and kill all the bosses and escort the Druid to get the Nightmare Shard for Talbar Mantle at level 15.
3.Rogues, Hunters, Shaman, Druids – Do the Wailing Caverns instance until you get the Leggings of the Fang.
4.Rogues, and Hunters – Kill Lord Serpintis to get the Venomstrike Bow (It is free, use it until you can replace it with Lil’ Timmy's Peashooter)
5.Rogues, and Hunters – Kill Skum for the Glowing Lizardscale Cloak until you can get the Sentry Cloak.
6.Shaman, and Warriors – Kill the turtle Kresh until you get the Kresh's Back Shield. Use it until your get your twink shield.
7.Druids – Check out the Item Set: Embrace of the Viper and decide if you want that or go with my suggestions.
8.Priests, Warlocks, Mages – Do the Blackfathom Deeps instance picking up good green gear until you get your twink items.
9.Rogues, Hunters – Do Blackfathom Deeps, you may get lucky and pick up the Sentry Cloak. Don’t worry; you don’t have to have all this stuff by level 13.
Start Gathering Twink Gear
Now we start going for the twink gear. You are pretty much done general questing. Go through your log book and get rid of any quests that are not pure joy to do. From now on you will only be doing instances and quest that are needed for twink gear. You will make more money by doing Shadowfang Keep, Lord Serpentis, Dead Mines, and Blackfathom Deeps than you will by questing. Don’t waist your time with quests.
Do Leggings of the Fang
If you are going for the Leggings of the Fang, start now. Before you go into the Wailing Caverns be sure to have big empty bags. Empty your bags of everything but the most essential things. Mail your temporarily unneeded stuff to your mule, and then have him either sell it or return it later. Speaking of bags – if you still need a bag, do the Deviate Hides quest while in WC. It will give a reward of a 10 slot bag. You need to go to the Wailing Caverns and go up above the cavern’s mouth and jump down into one of the eye-socket looking holes in the cave and get the quest in there.
Horde get Crescent Staff or Wingblade
For the Horde – Only do these quests if you need either the Crescent Staff or the Wingblade sword, and you can spare about 4000xp.
There are a series of quests to get the Leaders of the Fang quest:
See Arch Druid Hamuul in Thunderbluff (Elders Rise) for The Barrens Oases quest;
The Forgotten Pools given by Tonga Runetotem at the Cross Roads;
The Stagnant Oasis given by Tonga Runetotem at the Cross Roads (1200 experience);
Altered Beings given by Tonga Runetotem at the Cross Roads (1150 experience);
Mura Runetotem given by Tonga Runetotem at the Cross Roads (1050 experience);
See Hamuul in Thundrbluff;
See Nara Wildmane in Thundrbluff who gives you the Leaders of the Fang quest.
Check Your Gear.
Go through your list of gear that you have decided on and take note of all the BOP and quest items you need. Determine at what level you can begin to do them and don’t put it off. Continue leveling by going through the above mentioned instances, getting good drops and filling your bags.
If you are in Wailing Caverns, save all the Deviate Scales and Perfect Deviate Scales to make or have someone make the Deviate Scale Belt. You need 10 of each. If you don’t use leather, you can sell the belt for 20 gold or better. If you do use leather, you just saved 20g.
Gage Your Leveling
From this point on it is all a matter of gageing your leveling rate against you acquisition of BOP items. If you luck out and get good drops early, you can go through instance farming stuff for gold with out worrying about leveling.
From now on, when you put your toon away for the night, leave him outside; don’t let him get rested and don’t put him/her in an inn. That is, don’t let your XP bar go too far in the blue until you see what it is going to take to get the next couple of pieces of gear. Even parking your toon outside of town or dead you will get some rest, just not as much.
Avoiding XP
To this point you have been getting XP (experience) at ever opportunity. At some point, if you have a hard time getting items to drops, you may need to start avoiding xp. By level 18, if you are still lacking some BOP and quest gear you need, you will really want to avoid getting any XP until they are acquired.
Wait by the entrance
The common way of avoiding xp while in an instance is by staying near the instance entrance while your helper/s clears the way. You will be outside the instance, or if in the instance, too far away to get any XP. If you remain outside the instance you must group up before entering. The problem with this method is that you also miss out on all the sweet loot you really need. Don’t let this bother you. Remember – the enemy of the best is the good. You are there for the best gear. Hopefully there is an understanding in your party that you get the leggings should they drop. Make sure you have such an understanding before you start.
Following the group from a distance
Another way to avoid XP in the above situation is to make sure your mini-map is zoomed all the way out by clicking on the minus sign, then follow your group/helper keeping them just outside the range of you mini-map; the yellow circle will turn to an arrow. If you get an occasional hit with XP then back off a bit. This method will keep you closer to the group and less likely to encounter any re-spawns; but patrols (pats) could be a problem.
Dieing To Avoid XP
If you have a rezzer, while in an instance take your weapons off and hit the boss with your fist for minimal damage, then let the boss kill you, then the group or hi-level helper kills the boss. You watch and only rez after the kill. You'll get 0 -3xp per kill instead of 30-45. When the rezzer rez you, you will still be able to loot.
Avoiding XP While Questing
Or yet another way to avoid XP while doing quests is you could go along with the group but be ungrouped not killing anything and only regroup to kill the boss. You can ungroup inside an instance but then you have a minute to exit the instance or group back up with the party or you will automatically be hearthstoned back to your home inn.
Example
A specific example for the Horde would be in the case of the 4 Alliance mobs that ride their mounts in an elongated figure 8 through the southern Barrnes that drop the Runed Scroll for the Trailblazer Boots quest. When you find them, you will be in a group. Stay grouped and let everyone in the group know that you die first. You run up to the Alliance dudes and they promptly gank you to death. You do not release, but watch your buddies take out the 4 22 elite mobs. After they are dead you release, come back (if you have no rezzer) and loot for the Runed Scroll. You get no xp. Thank you Blizz.
Merovingian suggests:
There are a few ways which you can run your twink through an instance without gaining any xp. The popular way is finding someone to clear the instance for you while you wait patiently outside until you reach the boss you want to loot from. You then come in (escorted is preferable due to pats) and kill and loot the boss.
Another thing you can do if you don’t want to try to get someone to do your dirty work is to hop on your main (if you have one) and clear the instance yourself. Before you do that you want to get your alt as close to the instance entrance as you possibly can. You then get on your higher lvl alt or main and clear it out, then get a friend or someone in the lfg channel to kill the boss for you. He accepts your invite. At this point as long as someone is inside and no one leaves the group, you won’t get booted from the instance. You make that person party leader, (it may not matter whose leader) the important thing is do not leave the group to log on your alt. Just log off and you leave automatically for obvious reasons. At this point you log on your alt which should be standing by the entrance, and accept your friends invite BEFORE you enter. Have him escort you to the boss. Here is where you want to get the agro from the boss first. Have the boss kill you first then have your friend kill the boss. While you are dead you don’t have to worry about getting xp but you can still roll for loot.
/end quote
Leggings of the Fang (Rogues, Hunters, Shaman)
To get the Leggings of the Fang at level 13, you are going to need at least a level 29 friend or helper. The more people in the group the less XP you will get and the lower the helpers levels have to be. The Leggings of the Fang are dropped by Lord Cobrahn in the Wailing Caverns and he only drops them about 16% of the time. To find Cobrahn go into the WC until you get to the river, then go left and wined your way to the end. If you are lucky, you will get a drop the first time. If you are average you will get them on or about the 6th try, if you are unlucky…well, you will wonder if he really drops them at all. I went in there as a new level 13 and a level 29 Shammy helper. I had a blue XP bar and we did just the left side – that is everything up to Lord Cobrahn, and I almost leveled on one try. I did not get the leggings on that try.
Keep in mind that I was not avoiding xp and looting. This is why you want to start at level 13 or sooner. You need the loot because it will be better than anything you have seen to this point. You should start seeing the gold roll in; but not enough in one or two run for what you need. If you have gold, then start avoiding xp.
If you go up a couple of levels here, say you are level 16 and no Leggings yet, you need to rally start avoiding XP.
Agro Range A Concern
At level 13 your agro range will be fairly large and compelling. If you are accompanying your helper, stay back until he has engaged (tanked). If you are a caster you can assist the tank from range. If you are a melee class you have to be much more careful when helping the tank. Also, be prepared to use any skill you have to interrupt spell casting Druids.
Pulling Casting Druids
The Druids in WC are a pain to pull; not hard, but not cooperative. They like to just stand where they are and cast while ‘pats’ roam around. You can help the tank by allowing him to setup in a safe place (drop totems, traps what ever), you go forward and use you lowest dps cast (Rogues throw dagger) on the Druid, then run back past the tank out of the Druid’s range so he has to chase you. Your tank should be able to intercept/catch the Druid with out picking up any additional adds during the fight. Continue like this till you get to Lord Cobrahn. Many of the mobs are linked which means you can’t pull one without getting both or all (the little flowery things come in 3s or 4s), but you won’t run into them till you get quite a ways into WC.
Cool trick to save time
I hate to publish this because, IMO, Blizz does not want us to save time.
Here is a cool technique. Have a Rogue take you through WC who is capable of soloing it (Above lvl 2. While you stay at the entrance, you have him only take out the necessary mobs to get you to the landing spot where you jump down once you have killed Cobrahn. You know the place with the little terraces with the candles on them? You then go and stay at the bottom of that jump-off spot and the Rogue stealth’s from there on up to the top taking the usual route and by passing all the mobs. He only kills the patrol, and the mobs near Cobrahn; including the snake and Druid in front. Then the Rogue kites Cobrahn (when in snake form) over by the edge of the cliff (there is a stalagmite there) and kills him. Cobrahn’s body is directly above you, you loot from down below. This way you can repeat this part faster until you get the leggings and avoid a lot of xp. Shhh. Don’t tell Blizz. Actually, I think Blizz has helped us out here. They have placed a marker rock at cliffs edge both at Cobrahn and at Serpentis’s location so you can see where to kite to. Thanks Blizz!
You can not use this technique for any of the bosses that drop the shards for the Leaders of the Fang quest; the quester has to be at the body to pick them up You can use the same trick for Serpentis and the Venomstrike Bow by leading him over to the edge as well. The feedus can stand in the area near where the crocolisks are with the waterfalls. To find the exact location have your Rogue spiral up to where Serpentis resides and stand near the edge of the cliff. When you see his yellow dot on the mini-map just move under it. Again, like before, the Rogue pulls Serpentis near the edge and kills him. You loot until you get the bow. You can repeat this method in a fraction of the time it would take otherwise.
Casters
If you are a caster, you can get many of your twink hand, leg, and feet items in WC. Problem – WC does not give the best drops on these items. Use http://wow.allakhazam.com/ to look up the mobs with the best drops. So, unlike the Leggings of the Fang, don’t continually go through WC until you get these items. Most of them are BOE anyway so you can buy them. The same goes for Blackfathom Deeps. So, plan on selling the green and blue drops you pick up and buy the BOE items you need. People attuned to the market know which items are twink items and have inflated the prices just for you.
Do the same for other instances
You could follow the general scenario of avoiding xp when going into Blackfathom Deeps and pursuing the Tree Bark Jacket and the Gravestone Scepter (level 1 along with hand, leg, and feet items. The Tree Bark Jacket is a BOE item and you can buy it, but why not get rich while you are perusing a twink items and use the money for other gear.

Level 14 (12,900 xp)
To Do List:
1.All classes - If you didn’t finish your to do list items from level 13, stick with it. Don’t worry – be happy.
2.All classes - If you start the Dead Mines you may want to get:
a.Lavishly Jeweled Ring (lvl 17 2Agi, 6 Int) from Gilnid
b.Emberstone Staff (Lvl 19, 19.7 dps, 5 spi, 5 stam, 8 int) from Capt. Greenskin
c.Cookie’s stirring Rod (Wand lvl 17, 22.3 dps) from Cookie
d.Cookie's Tenderizer (Mace lvl 16, 10.5 dps, 3 Str.) from Cookie
e.Unsent letter form Van Cleef to start quest for Seal of Wrynn at level 16.
3.Rogues – If you lucked out at level 13 you can start the Dead Mines for the Balckened Defias Armor chest piece.
4.Druids – You can start the Lessons Anew quest.
.
The Dead Mines is another excellent instance with heinous drops. No matter how big your bags are they will be full before you finish this instance. Remember - the junk comes first. You are also going to need help getting the Blackened Defias Armor from Edwin VanCleef, the main boss in the Dead Mines. Van Cleef drops the Armor less than 15% of the time so it may take up to 8 or 10 tries to get the prize.
Druid’s Poisons
At level 14 Druids (both Horde and Allinace) need to do a series of quests starting with Lessons Anew to gain their power over poisons.
(top)

Level 15 (14,400 xp)
To Do List:
1.All classes - If you didn’t finish your To Do list of items from level 13, & 14 stick with it. Don’t worry – be happy.
a.All classes - Hopefully you can start the Dead Mines
2.Right click on the Nightmare Shard you got at level 13 and start the quest In Nightmares (A-In Nightmares, H-In Nightmares) for the Talbar Mantle.
3.Horde Roge & Shaman – Start the quest for the Trailblazer Boots.
4.Rogues – If you lucked out at level 13, you can do Dead Mines for the Balckened Defias Armor chest piece.
5.Druids – You should start the Lessons Anew quest.
6.Hunters & Warriors – Do the Defias Brotherhood quests.

.
Talbar Mantle
Essentially every class will want the Talbar Mantle (shoulders). It is a reward from a quest that both Horde and Alliance can do. You cannot start the quest until level 15, but you can get the Nightmare shard before that. I believe you get around 5000xp for the whole quest, give or take.
Look up the quest on Allakhazam called In Nightmares (A-In Nightmares, H-In Nightmares) and you will see that you need a Nightmare shard to complete the quest.
Alliance: Bring the Nightmare Shard to Mathrengyl Bearwalker in Darnassus.
Horde: Bring the Nightmare Shard to Hamuul Runetotem on Elder Rise (Thunder Bluff).
To do the quest it starts and goes like this: (Don’t need to pick up the quest. The shard will start the quest.)
1. Clear out Wailing Caverns s or just kill the 4 lords; Anacondra, Cobrahn, Serpentis, and Pythas.
2. Go back to instance entrance and talk to the level 30 elite Tauren. He'll say something about awakening some dude.
3. Escort the Tauren through the first section of the caves. You'll pause occasionally to defend him from spawning enemies.
4. The Tauren will turn left above the river and follow the ramp around. He will turn into a large alcove with a pond and an alter. You should see a night elf lying on the alter with green fires everywhere.
5. The Tauren will start a spell to awaken his friend. During that time, there will be three waves of enemies that come from the pool. First one is four elite Naga things. Second wave is about ten non-elite sludge ickys. The third wave is the biggest Murloc you will ever see. He's level 18. Anyway, the shard drops from him.
6. Once you get the shard, right click on it to start the quest called The Glowing Shard. The quest will tell you to travel to Ratchet to find the meaning behind the Nightmare Shard. You have to talk to Sputtervalve (62, 37) who is behind the Fly point in Rachet under the awning. Do this and you are on your way to doing the In Nightmares quest. The rest is just running around.
Trailblazer Boots (Horde)
The Trailblazer Boots are a quest item for the Horde. There are 2 quests involved.

**Burning Crusade Goldguide** PART 1

Auctioneer is working again.

Just a small update on my own personal quest for gold for those of you interested I am currently up to just shy of 58,000 gold. Enjoy:

Before I start, I want to emphasize something. If you want to make a TON of gold in WOW you have to do work, and you have to do it consistently. I'm not saying you have to work hard, because you don't ? this is EASY. You don't even have to work A LOT , 15 minutes a day is sufficient if that's all the time you want to put in. However you have to be consistent and keep at it every day.

Its all about execution and follow-through. A lot of people skim through a guide and think they learned something but then fail to follow through and take action.

So read this over, then read it over again, and then download the add-ons you need, and get started making gold. And if you have any questions feel free to email me.

Be sure to check the screenshots page for examples of many of the things discussed in this guide. :)

<( ' ' )> THE GUIDE <( ' ' )>

My Strategy

There are many ways to make gold in WoW:
Grinding, Tradeskills, Questing Etc.

However none are as effective as "Reselling" or "Buying low and selling High" .

This strategy can be applied to any MMORPG, I started doing it in Everquest years ago, it worked well for me back then and it has worked very well for me in WoW as well. I have made somewhere in the ballpark of 80,000g in the 7 months that I have been playing WoW spending only around 30 minutes per day on average buying and selling.

I sold a good portion of that gold, and the rest I spent on friends, and myself. I was able to keep all my (and a couple of my close friends) characters in the very best blues and purples as I leveled them (I had all the BoE tier 1 epics from molten core in my bank when I was in my 40's), buy mounts at 40, and epic mounts at 60, power level all my tradeskills to 300 in a matter of hours, even powerlevel many factions through turn-ins of BoE items purchased in AH. Allowing me to buy other races epic mounts among other rewards. I got all 1,200 tickets for darkmoon fair in an afternoon buying all the turning mats on AH. I also was able to create an army of twinks all decked out in the best gear, and best enchants money can buy. And I still have so much gold I don't even know what to do with it. And the best part is that it was SO EASY! I laugh every time I think of someone grinding for hours on end to make a few gold .

Ok enough of that lets talk about what we need to do to prepare to make some money!

First we need to download and install a few indispensable tools:

Tools

Auctioneer is included with many UI mods already, but if you do not have it, go download it, it is the single most important tool to have for making gold in wow.

Auctioneer scans the auction hall and records all of the items and their prices into a searchable database for you. This allows you to do two things:
1) spot items that are listed for too low of a price
2) buy said items and sell for a profit.

Installation: Unzip the package so that the two folders "auctioneer" and "enhtooltip" reside in your
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns directory.

CT mail

The CT Mail Mod allows you to auto-open all the mail in your mailbox. Very handy when you are dealing with 100+ emails a day with gold from sold auctions, items to re-list from expired auctions, and items from new purchases.

Simply click "open all" and it will automatically open all your mail and put the items into your bags.

Lootlink http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=5608

Lootlink stores clickable links to every item that is ever linked in public channels or on people that you inspect. It is very handy for getting links to rare items to add to your Shopping List.

Bring up the lootlink window once it is installed by typing /ll or /lootlink

Linkeratior http://www.fizzwidget.com/linkerator/
Is a good alternative to lootlink also.
It keeps track of links that you see, then to retrieve the link you simply type the text version of it.
For example you would type [krol blade] and on your screen would actually appear [Krol Blade]
as a clickable link

*update*
In order to install any of these mods in warcraft all you have to do is unzip them into:
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons
or wherever you have wow installed, that is the default location though.

If the addon does not appear when you log in to wow, you probably do not have it unzipped into the correct location. Check and make sure it is in the addons directory.

If you get an error saying that you do not have enough memory to run the mod, then do the following:
log into warcraft and at the character selection screen click the "addons" button, then in the upper right hand corner notice the box labeled "Script Memory(MB)" I believe the default number is 48, change it to a few MB higher than what it is set for , say 64mb for example. then click OK and try to log in again.

MACRO KEYS

I have the following macro keys set up:

/auctioneer broker 500
/auctioneer broker 100

these will allow you to quickly check for buyouts with a 5 gold, and 1 gold profit respectively, these can be pressed even during a scan and if you see something worth buying you can stop the scan and buy it. (if your sitting at your PC) The number is in silver so 100 = 100silver = 1 gold.

Here is how you create a macro for those who don't know:
(from the main menu click macros, click "New", give it a name and icon, then in the commands box type the "/auctioneer XXX" command. where XXX is the number of silver"

General Strategy
READ THIS ONCE NOW, FINISH READING THE GUIDE, THEN READ THIS SECTION AGAIN.
The general idea is to scan the AH, buy the items which are listed below the avaerage selling price, then re-list them for a profit:

Make a level 1 character
Give Him/Her a catchy name
If you have enough money to do so at this point, go ahead and buy some 14 or 16 slot bags. If not don't worry, you can work your way up to that when your rolling in gold.
Park yourself in AH
Set up your shopping list (read on to find out how)
Open up the auction window
Uncheck the categories: Container, Consumable, Projectile, and Quiver as things in those categories generally do not produce good profits and just slow down your scans.
Press the scan button and wait for it to finish.
For the first few days the best thing to do is scan with Auctioneer as many times as you can through the day at different times. After a dozen or so scans across a span of 2 or 3 days auctioneer will begin to accumulate enough data to give you somewhat accurate pricing information.
Once you think you have enough scans to have good enough pricing data you can start searching for good buys:
I search for good deals 2 ways:
I create a macro : ?/auctioneer broker 500?
This is a quick button I can click at any time and see everything that is listed at least 5g too low.(you can do whatever amount of gold you like 100 = 1g)
I also use the ?Search Auctions? Tab in the AH window. This is installed by the Auctioneer add-on.
Check your /auctioneer broker 500" hotkey results
Check your shopping list report.
On the ?Search Auctions' tab in AH search for:
? Buyouts with percent less 80% and minimum profit 50silver
? Buyouts with percent less 50% and minimum profit 1g
? Bids (short / medium) with percent less 80% and minimum profit 50s
? Bids (short / medium) with percent less 50% and minimum profit 1g
I have the 6 searches saved so I can run them all quickly in a row, starting with the 1g profit searches first.
As you begin to make more money you can search for higher profit items only as the smaller profit items will not be worth the effort then. For example I usually search:
? Buyouts with percent less 90% and minimum profit 2g
? Buyouts with percent less 50% and minimum profit 5g
? Buyouts with percent less 25% and minimum profit 10g
? Bids (short / medium) with percent less 90% and minimum profit 2g
? Bids (short / medium) with percent less 50% and minimum profit 5g
? Bids (short / medium) with percent less 25% and minimum profit 10g
Then if I don't find many items in those searches, then I fall back to my lower profit searches and pick up a few more items there.
You can tweak these numbers and percents as you see fit those are just what I do.
Buyout all the good deals, and then head to the mailbox to pick them up and come back and re-list them for more in AH. Read the rest of this guide for exact guidelines on what to buy and how to sell. You have to use common sense and some guidelines when choosing what to buy. In general when you are just starting out stick with low level(<lvl29) blues and greens which you can acquire for 5g or less, and which have desirable stats. Enchanting mats are also great to start with since they have no listing fees.
When you start to accumulate a lot of items (I usually have over 100 items in AH at a given time) it is helpful to leave the expired ones in your mailbox until you are ready to re-list all of the items at once. This will make it so that you only have to empty your mailbox and list items once a day, rather than every time you are at the mailbox. This will make your life a lot simpler once you have a large inventory.
Run these scans as often as you can, because the more you scan the more money you will make. I generally scan 3 times a day on weekdays: Once when I wake up and let it run while I shower. Once when I get home from work or while I eat dinner, and once right before I go to bed. Scan more if you can, remember it only costs you about 30 seconds of your time to log in and start a scan you can go do something else while it scans.
Always keep your character either at the mailbox, or in front of an auctioneer, that's why you made a lvl 1 alt for this so that you are always ready to go when you log in.

SPECIFIC GUIDELINES
BUYING

Run scans as often as possible
The more scans you run the better your data will be, and the more deals you will find.
Also scan at non-peak times to find delas that others miss. Scan many times durring peak time if you can because many items get listed every minute.

Bid on Tuesdays before the servers go down
Get your bid in before the server goes down on items with short or even medium durations left and you will have a better chance of winning them.
Scan late Sunday night/ early Monday morning
These are one of the best times to pick up some cheep deals because everyone lists all the items they found over the weekend late Sunday night or early Monday morning. Not only are there a large amount of items for sale, but lots of competition so people list their items cheaper undercutting each other. This is great for us because we can buy up the under priced items then wait till a better time to sell them for a profit.
Sell on Sunday
Sunday is by far the best day to sell. For some reason a lot of people do their AH shopping on Sunday. Maybe it's just because more people log-in on Sundays so more items get bought, but whatever it is Sundays are great for selling items. I always have a mailbox full of gold by Monday morning.
Make offers to people auctioning their items in the trade channel
If you see a particularly good item in a trade channel that you know will sell well make the seller an offer that is lower than what you know you can sell it for in AH. I usually offer anywhere from 50% to 75% of what I can sell it for depending on the item. Don't waste too much time haggling with them, just make them an offer, and if they refuse don't worry about it there are plenty more deals to be had. Also many times a seller who has rejected my offer will message me some time later and ask me if I still want the item for what I offered because they have not had luck selling it and they just want to get rid of it.

Manually searching for items
Here is where you can really make some money, after you have done the auctioneer thing, and all the good deals have been bought up, there are some other actions you can take to ensure maximum profits. And this is where I make a lot of money so pay attention.

I was bored one day with doing the same old auctioneer scan thing so I decided to try something new. I decided to find something that I could buy up for cheep that I felt was undervalued. While power leveling my rogue one day I noticed that the biggest help in my killing power was having the best daggers I could get for my level, I also noticed that a lot of people make twink rogues. So I went to AH and bought up every green dagger between the levels of 5-19 and having ?of agility? and ?of power? since these seemed to be most desirable for a lowbie rogue. They were selling anywhere from 5s to 50s on my server. I re-listed them all for 1g 99s, every time I was in AH I would buy up all the lower priced daggers than mine. Mine began to sell.

Within a week I had upped the price to 2g99s for of power, and of agility daggers, and was now buying up all the other alternative green daggers such as ?of strength? and ?of stamina? and was listing them at 1g99s. They always sell. The re-listing fee is negligible so I can list them as many times as it takes. In fact if I get an overabundance of a certain type of dagger, I usually just vendor them. Since I buy then for like 10s ? its better to just buy them up and vendor them and loose a few silver , and have someone buy yours for 2g99s instead. You are still making a huge profit.

I then moved on to other green lvl 1-19 items following the same idea:
Lvl 1-19 green cloth ?of the eagle?; listing them all for 1g99s to 2g99s

Lvl 1-19 green leather ?of the monkey? ?of agility? ?of power?; listing them all for 2g99s or more. I can sell a +5+5 of the monkey legs or +4+4 monkey gloves for well over 10g a pair.

1-19 green rings of the monkey, eagle, bear, etc as well as Blood rings, Demon Bands, and Ring of the Moon; Buying them all up and re-listing them for anywhere from 5g for a +2+2 stat ring to 19g for a +3+3 of the monkey or of the eagle ring.

Another idea I had that has worked well :
lvl 40-50 green MAIL of the Monkey, Agility, Power. At level 40 hunters can begin to wear chain, this means that they need to upgrade all their gear starting at 40, so I buy up all the 40+ green mail gear that has good hunter stats and I re-list it for higher prices. If you keep buying up all the cheaper alternatives that get listed the hunters have no choice but to pay your prices, which they will because they are excited about getting to wear chain so they impulse buy.

You can come up with your own ideas following the same idea, some that I haven't had time to try are 40+ plate of the bear for warriors, or 40+ gear for shamans.

It doesn't really matter what item you choose as long as you know there is a demand for it and you are diligent in buying up all the lower competition and relisting them. You could even do this with rare or uncommonly seen trade goods etc.
Use caution buying 40+ blues; especially weapons
Use a bit of judgment before buying up too many 40+ blue items. Be sure that you are going to be able to sell the item for a decent profit because the AH listing fees on 40+ blue items can be high. Some higher level blue weapons can have listing fees of several gold . So only buy high level blues if you know 1 )the item has a high demand 2) you will be able to make a profit even if you have to list it a few times because 2g a listing adds up.
Epic Items
The same goes for epics, they generally have high listing fees, and the auctioneer data may be skewed because of a handful of overpriced epics that have been sitting in AH for weeks. Use caution when buying epic items. I would suggest that you only get involved with epics once you have plenty of experience and gold reserves on hand. Unless you are 100% sure that it's a killer deal. If you do see something hat jumps out at you don't hesitate to buy it. When I was just getting started I didn't know a whole lot about the prices and values of most epics, but I did know that when I saw a Krol Blade for 150g it was an awesome deal and I snapped it up and resold it for over 500g.
How much gold to keep in reserve, how much to invest
In the beginning buy up every good deal you see, don't worry about having gold in reserve. As you start to accumulate gold however you will find that you cant spend it all because there are not enough good buys on AH to spend it on, at this point you will probably be buying items and mounts for your other chars, and spending gold on other things. Once you reach that point you should always keep at least several thousand gold on your AH char at all times, you never know when someone is going to list 100 nexus crystals for 199g a stack of 10. This is exactly what happened to me one day. I spent 1990g buying 100 nexus crystals that I assume were listed by some guildbank , and relisted them for 59g a piece over several weeks, and turned that 1990g into 5900g ? quite a hefty profit.

SELLING

Sell on Sunday
Sunday is by far the best day to sell. For some reason a lot of people do their AH shopping on Sunday. Maybe it's just because more people log-in on Sundays so more items get bought, but whatever it is Sundays are great for selling items. I always have a mailbox full of gold by Monday morning.
Listing fees and durations
Always list items for 24 hours, the fee isn't that much more, it lets more people see the item, and it makes it so you only have to list the item once per day.
Always use buyout
Always Always set a buyout. If you don't you will miss out on 99% of your sales. People want instant gratification, and also a buyout scares people into impulse buying because they feel that someone else could buyout the auction at any moment. With just bids and no buyout people know they have hours to think about it and often decide they don't really need to spend all that gold on that item today.
Stack size
A lot of times I will buy up stackable items either in small stacks or 2 or 3 etc, or I will end up with stacks with like 17 or 18 items in them. This is not the best way to sell stackable items. I use the following guidelines:
In general if you have enough to combine into a stack of 10 or 20 do that because it is a nice even number and people can easily figure out if the price is good.
If you only have a few of the item (like 3 or 4) split them up and list them singly.
Some items are needed in specific quantities for quests or tradeskills; these are the exceptions where it may be beneficial to list them in those quantities. An example is nexus crystals are generally required in quantities of 3 for most high level enchants. So if someone else has them listed for 50g singly, and you have 3 for 150g, odds are your stack of three will be purchased because someone probably needs 3, and its less clicking for them to buy your stack of 3.
7's 9's rule
I always list my items using 7's and 9's let me explain:
If the item usually sells for around 10g I list it with a min bid of 7g77s and a buyout of 9g 99s. Never list anything for 10g or 20g etc, always 9g99s, 19g 99s

Its only 1 s difference but it makes people feel like its 10g cheaper. It's the same principal as all those TV commercials that sell stuff for $19.95 It just sounds a lot cheaper than $20 even though its not really.

Sometimes if the item is worth only 15g, but there is no competition in AH at the time I'll list it for 17g 77s / 19g 99s. People see 17g and think ?17 is about the same as 15, and 19g is only 2 more g ? I really want it so I'm just going to buy it.? They just paid 20g for a 15g item that's 33% markup. They probably wouldn't have bought the item had you listed it for 20g/20g.

Granted if you had listed the same item for 13g/14g99s they defiantly would buy it, but that is a judgment call you will have to make on an item to item basis based on how much competition there is, how much you paid for it, and how badly you need to sell it (because listing fee is high or whatever) personally I do not like to put myself in situations where I feel pressure to sell an item, and the best way to avoid that is to stay away from the higher level items whose demand you are unsure about.
Undercutting minimum bids
When most people search specifically for an item they sort the results based on lowest price first. The price is not determined by the buyout price but rather the minimum bid. So sometimes it makes sense to undercut the competitions minimum bid, but not necessarily their buyout. This will ensure that your item is at the top of the list and the first thing they see when they sort their results by lowest price. Be careful though never set your minimum bid below the minimum price you can sell the item for or you could loose money if someone bids on the item and the auction ends with that bid.

**How to start with no money at level 1 **
Use searches that will find lower priced items to buy
People ask me "what if i don't have any money to start?" Well I say I started with about 1 gold. You should be able to start with even less. So after telling someone this ... I started another char lvl 1 with 0 gold just to see how difficult it would be, I killed a few mobs on my way to orgimar, leveled to lvl 3, sold all the stuff I had collected and had 3 silver total. So .. now what can I get for 3 silver and turn a proffit ?!?

I did a couple scans and then did a search for:

and ended up with this result:

Bam I bought up the 3 lesser mystics (that was a stack of 3, i accidentally chopped the 3 off), split them up and sold them each for 24s.
Now I was sitting at 72s, almost a whole gold at level 3 within an hour or two of creating the char.

Later I did:
Buyouts with percent less 80% and minimum profit 20silver
which yielded the following results:

As you can see there are several items here which you can buy for a few silver and make
a hefty profit, especially the heart ring which is a level 18 ring with +5sta .. a very nice twink item which will sell very well for 1g99s leaving you with a quick 1g79s profit.

so if I bought that ring and that cloak, I spend 27s, that puts me down to 45s, and I sell the two items for a total of 2g50s, I am now sitting at just under 3 gold. !!!!!
Keep in mind im only lvl 3 and have gone from 1 silver to 3 gold in 3 quick transactions.
That is impressive!

You can change the numbers till you find something, try lowering the minimum profit, or try lowering the percent less numbers a little until you find something that looks good.

Important thoughts:

Auctioneer is in no way definitive or perfect at what it does!
It is simply a tool to HELP you sort through the 1,000's of auctions in the auction house. If you trust the scan results of auctioneer 100 % and buy up everything that it says is too cheep, you will loose money. The key is to use common sense to narrow those choices down to make smart purchases. I have had several people read this guide, run two or three auctioneer scans in a row and then proceed to buy up everything it tells them to. Guess what? they lost some gold!

Run lots of scans, and use some common sense in what you purchase. In the following sections I will try to give you a run down of what type of items I look for. As a rule of thumb just think about the item like this is it rare? does it have awesome stats for the classes that can use it?
No one is going to want a plate item with intelligence on it on the horde side, and conversly no one will want chain items with intelligence on it on the alliance side. Or I look at daggers and think .. rogues want agility or + attack power, so those are the daggers I buy. Caster gear with +int + sta at lower levels. and + spell damage at higher levels. You get the idea.

In the begining start small, and use caution till you get a feel for the market.

< ITEMS - some guidelines on what I look for. > *updated 3/07*

Rare blues - these are the blues that only drop in one instance, and are not world drops, there are only a handful of them.

These are the big ones that I have on my list right now I will update this list as I find more:

Antenna of Invigoration
Elemental Attuned Blade
Teebu's Blazing Longsword
Recipe: Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops
These are less rare, but still worth putting on the list, especially in the beginning when you don't have many scans:

Pendulum of Doom
Assassin's Blade
Shadowfang
Miner's Hat of the Deep
Expert Goldminer's Helmet
Shovelphlange's Mining Axe
The Jackhammer
Unearthed Bands of _ _ _ _
Unearthed Bands of Agility
Etc. (keep in mind its leather so the good ones are going to be agility, power, monkey, etc)
Petrolspill Leggings
Mantle of Thieves
Flintrock Shoulders
Wolfclaw Gloves
Hotshot Pilot's Gloves
Mechbuilder's Overalls
Maiden's Circle
::Here are some of the other sets of items which I know are good sellers when im looking for stuff to buy::

Cross-faction patterns/items

There are several patterns or items that are only available to either alliance or horde. These can be purchased at vendors and if you can get them to the other faction AH you can mark them up hundreds of percent.

For example an alliance only pattern that costs around 50silver and sells very well horde side for 50gold + on my server is

Pattern: Red Whelp Gloves
To get ahold of this item you will either need to have a friend with an account on the other faction, or a second account yourself. Have the friend, or on your other account buy the item and list it for 1s or something in a neutral AH, then buy it and list it in your factions AH for whatever you want.
This is one of the better items I have found because the Gloves that it makes are highly desirable 10-19 BG Twink items.

Again I will update this List as I find more items worth doing this with.

Rare Tradeskill goods

These are hard to come by tradeskill goods that usually are not on the AH much or are very expensive because they come from raid zones/bosses. They are defiantly worth putting on your shopping list and keeping an eye on, especially once your get a good stash of gold, or if you have a lvl 60 char that can use them, or items made from them.

[Dreamscale]
[Fiery Core]
[Lava Core]
[Brilliant Chromatic Scale]
[Bloodvine]
[Core Leather]
[Large Obsidian Shard]

Rare Tradeskill Patterns

There are some rare tradeskill patterns that you should keep an eye out for, prices on them might vary by server but they will sell for a lot regardless. I found a Formula: Enchant Chest - Greater Stats for 5g once, and a Enchant Shield - Lesser Block for 1g. I sold the first for 500g, and the other for over 100g. So just keep your eyes out for a obviously cheep price on any of these. *Update* I picked up the following recently: felcloth bag for 100g, flarecore wraps for 150g. I sold the first for 499g, and the second for 399g.

Formula: Enchant Weapon Lifstealing
Formula: Enchant Chest - Greater Stats
Enchant Shield - Lesser Block
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Crusade
Formula: Enchant Weapon - Superior Striking
Formula: Enchant 2H Weapon - Superior Impact
Pattern: Core Felcloth Bag
Recipe: Major Rejuvenation Potion
Pattern: Flarecore Wraps
Pattern: Black Grasp of the Destroyer

Items with no listing fee

Some items have NO listing fee, enchanting supplies are a good example. Dusts, Essences, and Shards have absolutely no listing fee, which is good because it means you can relist them over and over and not loose money. These are GREAT items for people who are just starting in their gold earning career because you can start with the lower lvl ones which are cheep and you can relist them without loosing any money. Also you can list them for only slightly more than you paid because you don't have to worry about fees.

One word of advice about buying enchanting supplies is to buy on the weekends or when you notice a large amount of them in AH, and then sell in the middle of the week when supplies are dwindling.

TWINK ITEMS

Twinks are a huge source of money for me, A twink for those of you that don't know is generally a lvl 19, 29, or 39 char (top of each battlegrounds level bracket) that is decked out in the best blues/purples that money can buy or can be obtained through instances or quests. And they generally have lvl 60 enchants on every slot. They are usually funded by their lvl 60 mains, and their only goal is to be the most decked out badass person in the battlegrounds so that they can dominate. They generally stay at that level for months or indefinitely just to dominate that bracket. Many people have one of each of the 3 levels for each bracket.

Once you start making gold you will be able to make twinks if you choose, however the reason we are talking about them now is because they will buy certain gear from you for ridiculous prices. I know a lot of other guides say no lvl 19 will pay 200g for a lvl 19 blue. But that is just in fact UNTRUE. Lvl 19's repeatedly pay 50-200g for lvl 19 blues. There is a list of these items to look for below, but let me just provide you with one specific example. For example I love when I find an Assassin's Blade

For like 5g in AH (happens quite a bit) they sell for 150g ? 200g on my server. And they DO sell. You might have to relist it 5 or 10 times, but the relisting fee is like 5s so no big deal. That is an extreme example because it is an especially rare item which comes from only 1 instance. However many of the items below sell for 40g or 50g + regularly.

Twink blues:

10-19:
Feet of the Lynx
Deviate Scale Belt
Sentry Cloak
Assassin's Blade
Thorbia's Gauntlets
Silver-linked Footguards
Skeletal Club
Night Reaver
Shadowfang
Black Malice
Tree Bark Jacket
Darkweave Breeches
Keller's Girdle
Magefist Gloves
Twisted Chanter's Staff
Witching Stave
Skycaller
Lil Timmy's Peashooter

20-29:
Barbaric Bracers
Enduring Cap
River Pride Choker
Watchman Pauldrons
Tigerstrike Mantle
Brawler Gloves
Harbinger Boots
Dreamslayer
Cobalt Crusher
Forest Tracker Epaulets
Mantle of Thieves
The Butcher
Zealot Blade
Ironweaver
Claw of the Shadowmancer
Frostreaver Crown
Pugilist Bracers
Girdle of Golem Strength
Hotshot Pilot's Gloves
Beguiler Robes
Mechbuilder's Overalls
Glowing Magical Bracelets

30-39
Basilisk Hide Pants
Assault Band
Necklace of Calisea
Ogron's Sash
Papal Fez
Speedsteel Rapier

40-49
Elven Chain Boots

Twink greens :

Some lvl 10-19 greens sell for 5g or even 10g+ simply because they are the best items you can get for those slots period(AH, Instances, Quests or otherwise) here are a couple examples.

Bristlebark Gloves
Forest Leather Bracers
Red Whelp Gloves <- On horde side they are very valuable, because it's an alliance only pattern

LVL 10-19 rings : Ring of the eagle, monkey, bear, agi , eluding, blood ring, demon band, ring of the moon, etc etc

good low level rings always seem to sell well, I think it is because lower levels always seem to have empty ring slots to fill because they seem to drop less than regular armor.

Also because for twinking they are generally better than the blue instance dropped or quest rings for some classes.

Here are a couple of searches I run without using auctioneer. I just use the standard AH search box:

1) lvl 2 - 19 rare all catagories. sort lowest price first. emmiting level 1 skips over all tradskill itmes and leaves us only with blue weapons, and armor below lvl 19. since it is sorted lowest price first, we can imediatly see if there are any items listed very cheeply. Her is an example I ran today to show you:

as you can see I entered 2 and 19 in the lvl box, selected rare from the rarity box, clicked search, and finally clicked current bit to sort it by price.
Keller's girdle is listed for way way too low, it actually sells for closer to 20g, and I will buy it and relist it at 19g for a great profit !

2) Lvl 1 - 19 rings of any quality sorted by price. Same idea here, easy way to find good twink rings.

3) lvl 1 - 19 daggers sorted by price. look for cheep of agi, power, monkey daggers. saves you the time of searching for them one by one!

4) lvl 1-19 one hand swords. I usually buy of the tiger, monkey, agi, and power. especially the lvl 19 decapitating swords, they usually sell for 3 or 4 gold.

**8/17 Update - Upcomming expansion**

The upcommign expansion will allow for palidans on the horde side, and shamans on the alliance side.
What does this mean?
1) lots of people will make new characters: This will create a huge demand for twink items when the patch comes out. chain gear for the new palidins on horde side, and leather items for the new shamans on alliance side. also lvl 40+ plate for the pallies, and 40+ chain for the shamans to a lesser extent. The real demand will be for lvl 1-40 gear tho.

2)people will also want to level trade skills (especially first aid) for these new characters, so we may see an increase in demand and price for cloth, and other tradeskill supplies.

In addition the new expansion will bring a NEW TRADESKILL: Jewelcrafting !
I can only speculate at this point, but I have a strong feeling that the prices of Gems and Metals will skyrocket, especially the high end ones. I am personally going to start thinking about some long term investment in gems, and I am guessing that they might have finally found a use for those now almost useless Pristine Black Diamonds, and Black Diamonds. As well as some azerothian diamonds, blue sapphires, huge emeralds, rubies, large opals, ETC, cant hurt to pick up any that you see for cheap, you can always sell them for what you paid. Im going to pick up a bag full of stuff and stick it in the bank. Might pay off .. Might not. /shrug.

In addition with the increase of the level cap to level 70 in the Burning Crusade, level 60 items will loose much of their value. I would not recommend buying any lvl 60 gear at the moment , and the same goes for lvl 60 tradeskill materials. Lava Cores, Fiery Cores, and the like will *probably* drop in value significantly. I have unloaded all of my high end gear and tradskill mats on AH for the time being.

**3/07 Update - Results from above observation**

Well I followed my advice and bought up MANY MANY stacks of gems prior to the expansion.
I bought 8 stacks of [azerothian diamonds] for an average price of 3.7 gold each. or 592g total.
I have just finished selling them all off for between 19.99 and 24.99 a PIECE. with an average of 22.05 gold each. that's around 3,520 gold.... or a profit of about 3,000g! And thats just from azerothian diamonds. I did the same with blue sapphires, huge emeralds, large opals, and star rubies. I had around a dozen stacks of each, and overall made well over 10,000 in profits from my gem sales.

I hope some of you took my advice and invested in gems before BC, if so drop me a line and let me know how well you fared!

I personally did not invest in cloth too heavily as the profit margin for the amount of bank space it took up was not worth it to me, however cloth prices did go up, and those of you who did invest in lots of cloth before BC probably did well.

Also, as I predicted lvl 60 ish epics, blues, and tradeskill items all hit rock bottom, moltencore, and AQ trade skill mats are almost worthless now, and I'm glad I dumped all mine before the expansion!

Also I have made a killing on lvl 2-39 blue mail items (i'm on horde side). I sold a bunch for about quadruple what they used to be worth, and they are still scarce in general on AH as people are still leveling paladins, I still find good deals on these items though with auctioneer and relist them for huge profits.

Other thoughts:

You will find that over time you will get better and better at knowing what to buy and how to sell, it is just like anything else it takes practice. This guide gives you a big head start but there is still plenty to learn, different items will sell better or for different amounts depending on your server, the economies between new and old , high and low pop servers varies greatly.

Once you have a good ?feel? for the local economy on your server you will begin to make wiser choices and make more gold.

Thats it , go get started !

Roleplaying 101 - Introduction

Note: This may contain references to other games, and is generally applicable to most MMORGPs and not specifically WoW.

I have noticed that some articles on this subject tend to show persons personal point of view as to what role playing is and how it should be done. The problem is that everyone is different, and what is right for one person, may not be for another. So I just intend to give some general useful information with out ramming too much of my own opinion down your throat saying this is the only way to do it. This is not indented to be a definitive guide merely a starting point of things to bear in mind. If you read several different articles on role playing and some of the views seem to conflict, remember its just different peoples opinions. Take from it what you think is good and if you think something does not sound right for you, then it may just be there role play style (you don't have to follow it).

What is Role-playing?
Role playing is a bit like acting in that you put yourself in someone elses shoes. You get to go on a holiday from yourself and do things that you would not normally do or say. In short; you take over a different persona, with their own strengths and flaws.

Why do people want to role-play?
The fun is (well for me), to play someone who is different from yourself and interact with others who are doing the same. Have you ever been reading a book, or watching a film, and wishing you were one of those involved and could interact with the characters? Well now you can. I don't think this is the only reason though, if you ask three different people you would probably get three different answers. Basically it all boils down to one thing. They enjoy it.

How do I get started Role playing?
The first thing that you need to be able to role play is a character and a character history. What was the up bring like? How does the character act towards other people? Does he or she dislike any particular race? And so on. You don' have to work it all out straight away, but it's good to have some ideas. Maybe your character did not have a good education and does not always speak correctly. For me, flaws seem to make a character come to life a bit more and make him or her more unique. Think how your character will act towards other people. For example if he is an evil character he does not have to be polite and courteous to people but he may show respect for thieves and murders. That will give you something to work with. You can also let the in-game events take effect on your character as time goes by. For example if something very traumatic happens to him, it might have some effect, like being trapped in a small place might cause him to get claustrophobia. Again, make up your own mind and use your imagination! As time goes by and you develop your character you might want to start writing his background, personality and events that have happened to him in game to remind you, and so you can read through it again later to refresh your memory as to how he might act. For example if he has had one or several bad experiences with one particular type of race or creature he might come to hate and/or fear them.

But all this can only go so far, you need other people to role play with and have adventures and quests with. Try to find role players where ever you happen to be playing, usually there are some sort of role playing communities in a role playing game. Look at web sites and hunt around.

What language do role players speak?
d00d speak, where letters are replaced by similar symbols, and acronyms like lol (laugh out loud) and rofl (rolling on the floor laughing) are generally frowned upon. Emotes such as *laughs* and *smiles* are generally preferred. Other than that, pick anything that fits with your character. Speak modern english, ye olde english or even english with a french accent if you have to. Does your character have a lisp ? Does he have difficulty pronouncing the 'th'? Perhaps you will have him speak Orcish, Elven or Gargish... It really does not matter, as long as you are consistent.

Is going out of charter (ooc) allowed?
This seems to be a very personal thing. I personally always try to use [] to show ooc, but it's not the only way. You can just say you are talking ooc and speak normally. At some point though you will find it necessary to go ooc, don't worry, I think this is natural and something that we all have to do from time to time. However, die hard role players will rather cut off their right foot than be caught talking out of character.

Tolerance
Just because someone does not role play in exactly the same way you do, is not a good reason to flame them or say they are not role playing. However you may come across someone, either in-game or on message boards, who just seems to like arguing and attacking you personally regardless of your arguments. Don't try to argue with people like this, as that is what they want, they love to argue, just try to ignore them if possible.

Role playing for girls.
Some girls do not like having guys hit on them in role-playing games. One way to avoid this is to play a male character. Playing a different sex must surely be an interesting and challenging role playing experience. Of course you don't have to play a man if you don't want to, maybe you can be that powerful girl you have always wanted to be (Girl power). But always keep in mind that just because you see a woman in game, it does not necessarily mean they are a woman in real life. In fact, a lot of 'girls' you meet in-game are in reality role-playing guys.

I have known quite a variety of girls who play role playing games, some just like to run shops, make things and sell them, others really like PvP (Player vs player combat ). Again try things out and do what feels right for you. While there are more men playing role playing games, there are certainly lots of women too so you will not be the only girl playing.

So Alkhara, is role playing for me?
Why are you ask me? What do you think, want to give it a try?
I would like to thank all the people whom I have spoken to that have given me support and information which helped make this guide.

Chapter 1

The first step in the wonders of Role playing is to get past Newbieness.

A) Learn how to do as much as you can, so you are not always asking other players how to questions. Visit Blizzards website (and ours of course!) often to learn changes in the game that might affect the way you play. If you cannot find your answers there, try to stay in character when asking other people.

B) Get the feel of the game overall, fight a few battles, die a few time,. talk to some people, play around with the macros (if available), and learn how to use them effectively. Learning on your own in the best way to learn. It's more rewarding and stick with you longer.

C) While you are still a "newbie", try talking to people without discussing technical questions, bugs, PKing or cheating (its hard not to, but it can be done) or even discussing skills and class leveling. Keep your character to yourself, don't let anyone know how good / bad you are. Apart from what they can see don't let anyone in. It's just not good role playing ... like if you've ever played D&D, you would know what I'm talking about. Only two people know ... the DM (dungeon master) and you. Don't let anyone know what your skill levels are. It gets annoying pretty quickly to see people saying in town "I AM MASTER BLACKSMITH HAHAH KTHNXLOL1!". It would be better to say ( if you were an arrogant blacksmith ) "I am the greatest blacksmith in the southern lands of Vesper, ye (meaning "all of you") would be wise to purchase my weapons, for they shalt not fail ye in battle."

D) Try to kill the internet lingo as much as possible.

D. 1) However in times of crisis, and battle, one does not want to take the time to type out "be right back" when one's life is at stake. So shorthand does have its place in the game of WoW. You should never actually try to role play in situations where you simply can not. If you are alone, in a battle, dungeon crawling, or other hard to role play situations: don't. You'll probably get yourself killed. Role playing is like the icing on the cake, use it to your advantage for fun.
E) use emote messages instead * like this* (e.g. * smiles *, * burps* ,etc.... )
If you can do this for one hour or so, you have hereby graduated past newbie, and you are ready to go on to bigger and better Role Playing techniques.

Why should we role play anyhow Alk?
The only reason anyone should role play is to have fun. World of Warcraft is a game after all, and we play games to have fun. If you aren't having fun roleplaying then you shouldn't do it. But the bottom line is roleplaying is a way for you to develop your own character and a personality that is not your own. The internet completely

Chapter 2

For the advanced Role Players. Now that you've completed the first chapter and stopped real world and internet speak, you can start developing a real personality for your character. Practice one day on a very simple thing like pretending your character has a minor speech impediment.
These can be, but not limited to the following:
A lisp
Can't say R's quite right.( e.g. Elmer Fudd )
Stuttering
Can't say H's quite right. ("Come 'ere you! ")
Or a certain type of attitude (again, only a short list)
A solitude demeanor
Very friendly and out going
Quiet, or doesn't speak much
Drunken Dwarf (always fun)
Doesn't trust very many people
If you like pretending to have a speech impediment or potraying anmd exagerating a certain human characteristic, then maybe role playing is for you after all.
Write down on a piece of paper some things that your character's personality might be like
Town of birth.
Environment that your character was raised in. (farm, city, slum etc..)
Number of siblings and what sex they were, (possibly even names.) twins might be interesting.
General disposition. (angry, nice guy, rude, shy, dull, crazy.)
Quirks. (phobia's, inanities.. etc.)
Alignment. (whether your character is good, bad, neutral, or selfish) I am one who does not believe in true neutral.)
Obsessions (good or bad.)
View's on magic (whether character shuns magic or is wary or welcomes it.)
Hatred towards ... (pick something) maybe your character hates bards, or healers, or miners.
Just write stuff down.. develop your character, get to know how to become them. If you want to generate a list and roll dice to randomly generate a character then all the more power to you! Also, once you've written these things down, start to apply what you've written into your gameplay. For example, a character named, say Galdrog, is a blacksmith who was born in Goldshire, he has one sister role plays on the same server, her name is Dana Vinte and she is 4 years younger than Galdrog. Galdrog's personality could be discribed as a basically nice, but has a short fuse. (he gets angry or upset easy) He does have a quirk, he is traumatized by the loss of his parents. I would describe his alignment as probably a scrupulous good. Which means, Galdrog will disobey the written law if he believes that it is right. He used to have a deathly fear of magic, but his friends in game has seen him through his fear, and have even gotten him to start using it. Galdrog hates undead, and will not go no where near Undercity. Galdrog is indifferent about any rules, but he takes Justice as his principle and Honesty as his virtue. (Hence he lives in Stormwind City now).

Chapter 3
Now that you know a little more about role playing, and you might even have practiced it a bit. However, it will do you little good if you do not have an accepting group of friends that also roleplay along with you. This is the most important part of it all, what good is having a well developed character if you have no friends to interact with. This is crucial to your character's development as well. On each server in World of Warcraft there is probably several role playing groups that can be found, and each one has their own "personalities."

Find the role players on your server, and learn where they usually meet, as having a consistant meeting place is important too.
Another very important thing to know is how to deal with 'offensive' players, those players that deliberately insult you to start a fight, or just for thier own sadistic pleasure. I personally have a high tolerance for offensive players, but many players do not, and I will try to list here on ways to deal with them.
Every Role player will eventually get the cocky remark: "Speak modern english you nerd, because this is modern times " or "Why U talk so stupid" or something to the effect that they do not like to deal with a role playing individual, and they think everyone should just act like they way they really are. These remark can be discouraging to the aspiring role player, but have faith. This kind of mentality is expected. Usually if you keep role playing to these types they will eventually go away frusterated. "Oh man, I can't talk 2 u n e more."
Then there is the truly offensive players that seriously try to hurt your feelings, or try to stir up negative emotions. If they break the agreement they made with Blizzard when they signed up, i.e. racial, sexual, or any type of biasing insults. Then report them to the proper authority which can be found on the Blizzard website, or take a screen shot the offending statements in it. (Print Screen by default) and send them an email including the screenshot as an attachment.
If it is not this serious, then simply walk away from the individual, or put the offending player on your ingame ignore list. Just Remember, never stoop to their level and retort by saying similar things to them. True roleplayers ignore these immature people and it always the best thing to do. Chances are, they will stop if you ignore them because usually they are trying only to ger rises out of people. These peopel are usually young males who get their "jollies" of making fun of people in fornt of the computer screen. Sad, but for the most part true. Keep your cool and stay in character.
This next part assumes that Blizzard will implement a certain PK system.
PKs (Player Killers): Nearly impossible to interact or roleplay with (i.e. grievers). They usually travel in packs, and are very experienced in player vs player combat (PvP), roleplayers usually spend more time interacting with thier friends and are not very experienced in PvP. A friend of mine compared the mentality of PK's to the aliens in the film Mars Attacks. They do not negotiate, they shoot first and ask questions later, literally.. When you are PK'd you may be very upset, however Blizzard may and should not allow PKing as an offensive behavior, and will not do anything about reports of PKing, unless the PKer in question has verbally offended or harrassed, or player prior to or after the murder. I hope this clears some things up.

WoW Economy !

The Economy of an mmorpg has long since been a hard and complex concept for most gamers to grasp. Though all mmorpgs have different methods and tools of manipulating the economy they all have the common denominator that people want to earn more currency in whatever game they are in. This guide will focus on various economy tools and how to achieve greater wealth by manipulating the systems properly.

How the Economy Works

The economy is an ever-changing structure that determines worth of items, weapons and services. The main tools to success are based on the fundamentals of real-world bartering, trading and transactions. When integrated into a game’s community the economy works as a means to receive items and services based on the difficulty of obtaining those items or the difficulty of that service.

We’ll work from example to give you an idea of how the economy warrants the prices of services or items.

Let’s say you have crafted some Plaid Pants of Nerdiness (gives +5 to mathmatics, -9 to dating). You’re now looking for a price to sell them to another player. That price will be determined on a number of factors that you will receive from the economy around you. These factors can include:

[*]The current economy’s price of materials it took to create the pants
[*]The difficulty of obtaining the materials
[*]The current economy’s price of the pants
[*]The rarity of the pants (or the crafting recipe you learned it from)
[*]How many pants are currently available to all players?
[*]Future availability of the pants

Taking each of these (and probably many more factors) into consideration would allow you to get a good grasp of your item’s worth. Based on this information you would create your base value and then evaluate your transaction on a seller-to-buyer reaction (ie: if the buyer will pay more for it, offer it for a higher price).

Since each game has many factors that leads to obtaining the worth of an item it is impossible to make a complete list within this guide. You can rest assured that a good player who manipulates the economy understands the majority of his game’s factors and uses them to his advantage to make the maximum profit for each item they barter into the economy.

While you choose your own method of buying and selling this guide will only be focused on one outcome, making money. The reasons and practices I will share will be legitimate means of trading but also getting the most from your trade. Some methods (such as undercutting, or manipulating your price) may seem misleading but its simply business. In the real world you would always try to get the most value for something you are selling, it won’t be any different for the purpose of this guide.

You can choose to integrate these practices into your own trading and some may not be to your liking. Though my method of dealing with customers is very happy-go-lucky, yours may be to present yourself as a hard-ass. Either way, use whatever method you feel makes you more money and the ethics used in this guide should not be perceived as ‘shady’, it’s simply a practiced means of making money that works.

Presentation

Now that you’re more familiar with the economy we’ll go into a basic fundamental aspect of manipulating it that most people don’t do properly. Trading is a simple concept that involves one player giving currency, items or services to another for an exchange of the same. Though everyone has the mental capacity to handle this task I’m dumbfounded at how often people don’t capitalize on their trades by using proper bartering conversation. If you present yourself in the wrong manner you can heavily decrease (or eliminate) your profit margin of the trade. We’ll work off example here since it’s much easier to elaborate using chat dialogue.

|Bad Barter| Selling Knife of Virginity (+10% chance to avoid sexual encounters)

- Nogame messages Bad Barter –

|Nogame| How much do you want for the Knife?
|Bad Barter| Ummm
|Bad Barter| 100 gold
|Nogame| ouch, that’s a little steep for me, I’d go 25 gold but that’s as high as I can go
|Bad Barter| r0x0r$!

If I could count how many times I have had variations of this conversation in mmorpgs… Anyways, this is a classic example of how not to sell items. After Nogame asked for a price on the Knife, Bad Barter showed his inexperience of bartering by responding with “ummm”. When you receive a response of “ummm” after prompting the seller for a price it is basically a neon sign that screams the seller doesn’t know the value of the item he is selling. It’s quite possible that this Knife usually sells for 500 gold but since he showed his inexperience in the conversation Nogame could undercut his price because he was not aware of his item’s value. This is how most newbie-found rare drops end up changing hands in mmorpgs.

By presenting yourself properly when trading you can increase your chances of getting a better deal and increasing your profit margin. I’ll now list a few cardinal rules that I have gone by when trading items in mmorpgs:

Never buy, sell or trade something you do not know the value of
Always allow the other party to make the first offer
Buying in bulk can yield higher profit margin as well as a means of finding a dependable seller for that item (ie: people that sell in bulk often farm that item and will obtain more in time)
Never scam or cheat your customers, you want them to return and send repeat business your way whenever possible
Some deals were just not meant to be, if the price isn’t right walk away

Secrecy

Trading is kind of like playing Poker. You never want the other party to know what hand you’ve got. The more information the other person knows about you and your trading habits the more he can manipulate the trade in his favor.

If the other player was selling you an item and he knew precisely how much money you had he could increase the price for the simple fact that he knows you could afford to pay it. You would also find it harder to bring the seller’s price down because he knows its only a cosmetic means of lowering the price, not a necessity (meaning that you just want to lower the price, you don’t have to).

Secrecy obviously factors into your trade conversations because you only want to give the minimal amount of information to precipitate the trade. This is where altering your presentation may come to your advantage, ie: if you talk like a wheeling dealing trader the other party will assume you have a lot of money, if you present yourself as a person that pinches pennies, they will assume you have less money and that’s a good place to start.

This also plays into your conversations with friends. While you probably won’t hike up the prices or go for a large profit margin when trading with your friends, you don’t really want them to know your Mr. Moneybags. The more you brag about your wealth the more people tend to ask for it. Keeping things such as this to yourself is one of your greatest weapons as a gamer who manipulates the economy.

Making Money

Open Trading

Open trading is what I refer to transactions that start in the chat channels. Open trading has both positives and negatives and using open trading to your advantage can save you tons of time and make you huge margins of profit.

The main positive of open trading is the chance for higher profit margins by using your bartering skills to raise the price. You tend to cater more towards impulse buyers (if other means such as Auction Houses are available) and people who have not taken the time to properly research the value of the item you’re offering. These factors can boost your price on the item you are selling well over what people are normally willing to pay.

The main negative of open trading is the time it takes to do it. Open trading can yield high profit margins but it can also yield 0 buyers. You are really waiting around in a high-traffic chat area spamming your wares hoping that the right buyer walks past and has his trade channel on. This sometimes never happens and results in a waste of your time as a seller.

The main positive and negative is always the major conflict in open trading. It really comes down to time vs money. Yes, open trading takes time but the more time it takes, the higher profit margin you tend to receive. The less time it takes to finalize your sale for a decent profit margin, the more time you have to find other wares to sell. The trick is to find a happy medium and work in that pocket.

There are many ways to approach open trading and I’ll rank them in terms of the amount of time it takes because the profit margins tend to be higher.

Open Trade Channel Auctions

The best way I’ve seen this handled is to use the trade channel to generate interest in an item and then use your own means (notepad, piece of paper) to record bids of potential buyers. When they express interest in your item simply tell them that the current bid is X and they can bid beyond that.

This method is only really useful for hard-to-find items that have a high demand. It also requires organization on the seller’s part to properly organize the transaction and the buyer’s bids. This method can take a multiple days to finish up but once completed it could result in a very hefty profit margin.

Open Trade Channel Single Trades, No Prices

This refers to offering single items over the chat channel without prices in the message. The reason for only offering single items is to isolate your wares (and give them more attention). Every time you add another item into your trade message you increase the chance of your items being skipped over by those reading trade channel messages.

There are numerous reasons of why you do not give prices in your channel message. How many times have you seen this occur in a chat channel message:

Selling Garter Belt of Frigidness (+50% resistance to pickup lines) for 1,200 gold
1,200 gold? I bought that last week for 600 gold!
Who the HELL would buy that belt for 1,200 gold?!??!

I’ll say this once in the most fierce means possible prices can never be too high, they can only be too low. There’s always someone that doesn’t know the value of an item that will pay prices that are far too high just because they are impulse buyers. If the price is “high”, I assure you, there is someone out there that will pay it. The trick is getting them to walk by while you are in the area spamming your item (that’s the hard part).

When gamers ridicule other people’s prices all they are doing is showing their ignorance for the economy. Usually those gamers don’t have a lot of money anyway because they don’t understand how making money works. Regardless, when you get a person spamming messages like that while you are trying to trade over the chat channels it does nothing but harm your business. Even if the guy is ignorant, people will tend to question your price if he did state that he bought it somewhere else for much cheaper (even if it was a lie).

The other very important part is that if you give the item price up front, you lose all bartering possibilities. There’s nothing worse than selling an item on the first offer. If a trade happens quickly and painlessly all you can think to yourself is “I could have gotten more for it”. This happens to even the best barterers but the trick is minimizing the frequency in which it happens.

Open trade channel for single items giving no prices is often useful for items of high to moderate demand and takes a moderate amount of time to find a buyer for any transaction. The more time you spend talking to the buyer, the more information you can use to determine his price tag.

Auctions

Though not all games have auctions you should be well versed in profiting from the auction house as some of its fundamentals can affect your evaluation skills. If your game does not have an Auction house you can always visit GameAmp to find out-of-game auctions (such as these Guild Wars Auctions).

The main advantage from Auctions is the time it takes to make a transaction with a chance for a large profit margin. The few disadvantages to the Auction House are that it usually costs money to post an auction and auctions always have a time limit. In other words it’s always a pain to have a high-demand item that’s duration came to a close though the bidding could have elevated past the final bid price.

There are a handful of universal tips when creating auctions that can be of use. Since many auction systems differ, some of these tips will not apply to your game but once again, learning them can often strengthen other skills used in bartering:

Always know the capabilities of the auction system before you post an auction on it (ie: can you cancel your auctions, how does delivery occur, how much does it charge you to post an auction, etc)
If you are able to type the title of your item, make it specific, exciting and not too spammy
Always check the auction house for the item you are about to post, find out its going cost as well its rarity
If the item you are about to post is too common, you may want to reconsider posting it
On high priced items you may want to evaluate similar items on the auction house for a few days to see their price shifts or if they have a common seller that tends to undercuts new sellers with the same wares
Posting too many of the same item at once can allow a single seller undercut all your wares and cause you to pay wasted posting fees
If you find an item on the auction house you would like to buy or trade you can always contact the seller directly to negotiate another offer

In some games the prices it costs to post auctions are so steep that the profit margin decreases too heavily to warrant posting in auctions house. At that point using open channel trading and out-of-game auctions may be your best bet to profitable selling.

Crafting for Profit

Most games have some form of crafting system that allows each player to create wares to sell to other players. Some of those games do not have auction houses and most trading is handled through open channel trading. Sometimes these games place a huge emphasis on player-driven-economy and that makes crafting a very valuable hobby.

Profiting from crafting usually takes the a few factors into consideration:

The current economy’s price of materials it took to create the item

The difficulty of obtaining the materials

The current economy’s price of the item

The rarity of the item (or the crafting recipe you learned it from)

How many of that item is currently available to all players?

Future availability of the item

[/list]
In any good crafting system the trek up to the highest tier takes a great deal of time and money. Time to gather the materials and money to craft them (or buy them) into items that raise your crafting skill.

While you can employ any of the methods used above to sell your wares I will give you a few pointers on how to gather them.

Once you’ve found a recipe that turns a nice, consistent profit, you’ll want to capitalize on it and make some money. By doing so it means that you will eventually lower your profit margin because you are introducing more of that item into the market and thus lowering its rarity. Either way you’ll need to collect a lot of materials to craft your item. If your item is indeed valuable it probably means the materials are valuable as well and buying valuable materials from the auction house or open channels can really lower your profit margin. What you need is a few friends to help you farm.

I’ve often employed this technique once I’ve found a good crafting recipe that makes me some money. I’ll go farming for materials in whatever place I can find them. When farming I introduce myself to anyone who occupies the area for more than 15 minutes. I tell them that I’m farming for X item and if they find any I’ll buy them for X gold. I may sweeten the pot by saying “the more you find, the more I’ll pay”. After a few days of this I never have to farm there again because I will have enough “employees” farming materials for me below the economy’s current price and using it to craft sellable items. Then I move on to another area to farm new materials and repeat the process.

This tactic not only works for crafting but it also works by simply selling those materials to buyers for more money then what you paid for them. It’s simple, if you can pay 5 gold per material that you bought off your farmer and easily sell them for 8 gold somewhere else, you make a sizable profit and you didn’t have to take the time to find that item. The more people you have farming for you, the more money you make.

When crafting for profit just remember to stay in-tune with the economy’s prices and the recipe’s rarity. Though you may get 1,000 gold now for an item you crafted, if 10 people find that recipe tomorrow the economy may be flooded with it and your price just dropped down to 300 gold per item. Always remember every time you sell a single item you reduce the worth of it because you reduce the rarity.

Getting in Fast: Perception

Ironically enough the most of the richest players on your server after 12 months will be determined in the first 8 weeks of play. The players who advance quickly through the game and find rare items or crafting recipes are the players that get to introduce the items into the economy. When you introduce items into the economy you get to set the price high and if you know what you’re doing you stand to make a sizable profit off of that fact. These players made a lot of money because they acted fast. They did not let that crafting recipe go to waste as it sat in their backpack, they found materials, crafted it and sold it for a pretty penny.

Make your money selling a specific item then move on right before the market gets flooded by people selling the same thing. If done properly you can constantly stay ahead of the curve and continue setting the economy’s value of each item.

Patches are Opportunities

Acting fast doesn’t always fall into the realm of crafting items or being the first to find new items on your server, sometimes patch notes can reveal the most obvious means of turning a profit.

Patch notes often say things such as “increased the drop rate of this item” and “decreased the drop rate of this item”. Every time you see “increased the drop rate” or “decreased the drop rate” you know that the economy is about to shift as soon as that patch hits. Knowing this ahead of time can allow you to be the first to buy up items that will be harder to find or sell off items that won’t be as valuable (because their drop rates will be increased). Trust me, not all people read the patch notes carefully and you’ll be able to turn a profit of their unawareness of the coming changes.

A slightly less obvious patch note would be the “Item X will now be found in so and so dungeon”. If “item X” has slightly better stats then whatever items you sell or is currently on the market it may be a good idea to clean out your inventory of that item. If it’s not too hard to find “item X” then you may be holding on to things that won’t be able to sell after that patch goes live.

If the patch notes EVER say anything about new recipes and what materials it will require to make them, it may be a good idea to invest some money into those materials as they may become very valuable after that recipe is found. In addition it may be good to focus on finding that recipe once the patch is released and fully capitalize off your quick thinking.

Raids are Opportunities

Raids can also become opportunities if you know what is involved with killing certain foes. If your server starts to shift heavily towards raiding you may see a demand for items that were previously not as important. If a raid boss (with good loot) requires a certain kind of damage resistance (ie: fire, water, earth) there’s a good chance that when the bulk of your server starts to fight him on a regular basis they will look for items that protect from that type of damage. If you had the foresight to see it coming you stand to make a fortune by selling your items to raiding groups. If you’re the guy who sells resistance potions exclusively to guilds that raid that boss daily you could be rich in a week.

Full Economy Manipulation

This method is not easily obtainable and requires a huge amount of overhead to get started however it offers the most significant profit margin. This method is also not as easy to pull off in games that have randomly generated items but is quite possible in games with set item names such as WoW or EQ2.

Have you ever been to the auction house and all the extremely rare items happen to have the same seller? Or have you ever glanced at the popular chat channels and you saw the same seller selling new, rare weapons each day and you thought to yourself “How the hell does he find all that stuff?” The reason is simple, he bought it all.

As I’ve stated many times throughout this guide when you introduce items into the economy you can set their price because you are the sole provider of that item. It’s harder to set the price when other sellers are offering the same item through auctions and chat channels. So if you have all the money, you simply buy out the competition by paying their price for their items. You then create your own price (often a higher price) and sell them less frequently; you become the centralized source for that item. By doing this and creating a cache of rare items you will become known for your ability to obtain such items and people will seek you out to find what you’ve got in stock.

The players with this level of economy manipulation will always be the richest players on a server and every server has one (and if yours doesn’t maybe you should step up to the plate). Though it is hard to legitimately pull this method off, it can be done and it’s well worth trying if you’ve got a strong understanding about your game’s economy.

Conclusion

A player driven economy means just that, players determine the costs of the items and services in that economy. It’s rare to see players who completely understand the economy and even rarer to see players that act on the opportunities that arise within it. Though you may not intend to become the richest person on your server it’s good to understand how to make money when it is needed.

World of Warcraft Economics !

Greetings all, I'd like to welcome you to my world of warcraft economics guide. This guide is meant to serve as a tool for hopefully giving you, the reader, and ideas on how to make some gold. We will go over the different ways of doing it and their advantages.

There are five basic ways people make money in the world of warcraft:

1) Gather Leather/Herbs/Ore/Fish - supplies

2) Farm for loot/gear

3) The Crafter

4) Buy low/sell High

5) Control the market

--------------------------------------------

1) The Gatherer

There are many things to be gathered in the game. This includes leather, herbs, ore, fish, linen, wool, mageweave, stones, gems, and so on. Moreover, there is much gold to be made here.

There is something to be said for those that gather - they spend a lot of time making their money. Many players begin to make their money by gathering - and I encourage it. And, later on, finding a rare vein or herb can bring in several gold alone. There isn't too much to say here but to get the gatherer mod (works wonders) and go to http://www.worldofwar.net/cartography/ and check out the resource maps.

The benefit of being a gatherer is that you don't ever have to buy supplies. Moreover, you may just find the things to mine/gather while leveling. This is especially true with leather (tradeskill is skinning).

One thing to note - you cannot pass level 225 in your skill until at least level 35.
Note #2 - ALWAYS sell your gathered items at the auction house - always. It costs next to nothing to put them up for auction even at 24 hour durations. If they don't sell, just put them up again.
Note #3 Constant Buyers find them, they are out there. Read on into the crafter section to learn more about constant buyers.

----------------------------
2) The Farmer

This is a profession usually taken on by those of higher (level 40+, usually 55+) level characters. To do this, you simply do instance runs or kill named bosses multiple times or do multiple runs through the instances in the chance of getting a drop. Before the patch that came out today (this was written the day the honor system came out), this is what almost all level 60 players did (since then, many lvl 60s have taken up pvp attacking the crossroads for example and then with the battlegrounds patch, they go to the BGs).

Things to note:
This takes more time than being a gatherer - and the payoff *may* be higher. The *may* is the 3% chance, or .03% for some items, that an item worth x amount of gold at AH - I repeat AT THE AUCTION HOUSE - will drop (check www.thottbot.com to see the drop rate of items). So, with this type of way to make money, you may make 20g in a day or 200g or 2000g depending on what drops - pure chance. Now, some like this idea for the high potential.

Like I said, always sell the item at the auction house. If you don't know what it is worth, look at items similar to it and price accordingly. If you still don't know, put it up for some absurd amount
- there's a chance someone may buy it. I suggest putting what you want as the base price, and an absurd number for the buyout at 24 hour bid time - do this on the weekend as well as more people are on (at least
3x) during the weekends.

Example: The Deviate Scale Belt Recipe is a quest reward from the wailing caverns. My fiancee decided she would sell hers at the auction house.
She wasn't sure what it was worth, so she put it up for 50s base and 6 gold buyout, 24 hour time period. If you don't know, there's no way it should be worth more than 1 gold due to the fact that it is an easily obtained quest reward. Guess what - it sold! I guess whoever wanted it didn't want to wait the 24 hours to get the item (as most don't) so just bought it out.

Drawbacks:
It costs a lot to put those items up for bid. And if it doesn't sell, you have lost that money.

To compensate for this - first, always sell on Fri/Sat/Sun. Keep the items you get in the bank until the weekend. Also, put the item up around 7pm on Friday evening with a 24 hour bid time if you can.
Repeat on Saturday if you still have it. This will ensure the most people see it. Advertising isn't a bad idea as well - once every 30 minutes (once every 5 10 mins if you are on a high population server). You can do a /2 [item][item][item] at AH. People will click on those boxes to see what they are, just out of curiosity, almost always. To make the [item] that people can click on, shift + click the item when you already are entering text in the chat screen.

Last note - sometimes going for the lower level item may be more profitable than the higher level item. The higher level item will definitely be worth more - but you will be able to do more runs through the lower level area.

-----------------------------------------
3) The Crafter

This is one of the players that says forget the gathering, I want to make things. To do this, you better have at least 10 - 20 gold ready to spend. The first 150 skill points into any craft, you will most likely lose money. In fact, I can almost guarantee it. The items below 150 aren't worth much or in demand enough to make serious cash. This can be said even with items up to level 225. However, past 225, it is pure gold. Be it Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Alchemy, or Tailoring (note engineering and enchanting are not listed); there is money to be made. Reasons why:
Leatherworking - there are three paths. You can only choose one.
Someone will want what you can make due to only 1/3 of the people being able to make it.

Blacksmithing - same as leatherworking, but two paths.

Alchemy - getting those high level herbs is no easy task. And now that the honor system is in and potions can't be dispelled ... yeah, permanent buffs will be worth a lot.

Tailoring - bags, bags! Everyone wants a 14 or 16 slot container. Of course, a perk you get is the 18 slot container - bind on pickup sadly. Also, often missed items are shirts.

So, how do these people get their supplies?
One of two ways -
Either at the auction house or from a supplier. Often times, the crafter will find a gatherer and work a deal with them to constantly have incoming supplies. The gatherer will often times send the item through the mail system with COD, cash on delivery. This works well for both parties. And, sometimes one gatherer can supply several crafters with what they need. The gatherer and crafter also set a standard price for a stack of a certain item this never changes once set in most situations. Having a constant buyer/supplier is more important and convenient than getting the most for your copper. I suggest you try to set up a system like this - either if you are a gatherer or crafter.

To contact them, use the mail. Go to AH and see who is selling alot of a gathered item or crafted item, depending on if you want to supply or want to craft. Write down their name. You can try to send them a message, but more often than not, they will not be online. So, just go over to the mail and send them a nice letter. Perhaps a subject of 'Need a supplier?' or 'Can you gather x for me?' (x being herbs, leather, whatever it is you need) In your letter, basically say you saw them selling a lot of a certain item at AH and you'd like to become a constant buyer. This is VERY attractive to the gatherer as suddenly gathering x item becomes a constant reliable income for gold.
It is also VERY attractive to the crafter as they can normally negotiate for it to be cheaper than AH and they have a constant supply to make their items.

The downfall - at level 60, many crafted items become obsolete. Now, this doesn't mean crafted items won't sell. Plenty of lvl 59s and down still need those items. But, what it means is that they will never sell as highly or as well as a farmed item - epic items.

The two that cost you more than you make:
Enchanting - This really can be a great tradeskill. I made tons of gold with it ... by selling what I disenchanted to other enchanters.
Rarely, and I mean basically never, will a player be willing to pay as much for an enchant as it cost you to enchant that item. Surely it can't cost that much - you say

Well, factor in the cost of what you didn't make. That is, factor in your potential earnings. In order to get enchanting ingredients, a item Uncommon (green) or better must be disenchanted. A blue item can easily go for 10 gold or up depending on your server (some 200 and up). Now, lets say every green and blue item you find and can't use gets disenchanted - the losses add up pretty quickly. In fact, they add up so quickly that the aspiring enchanter finds it hard to believe.
And, what is worse is that you don't always get the ingredient you need. There is a random chance it can be any number of ingredients.
Even worse - to enchant something, it usually takes at least 2 - 3 ingredients. Let's say you disenchanted 3 blues to get the exact 3 ingredients you needed. If you had sold those blue items, you could have made 15g, assuming worth 5g (yep, a low estimate here). No one in their right mind will pay 15g for an enchant - unless it is a high high, well above 225, level enchant. And, if it is one of those enchants, then those blues certainly could have sold for well more than 5g each. If you want to be an enchanter, find a good guild that will supply you with 'trash items' - items they tried to sell at AH and didn't sell, so they send it to you.

One thing to note: Enchanting has the *potential* to make money through disenchanting. Throw-away green or blue items (ones that are really bad, no one would use) will sometimes disenchant into something worth considerably more at the auction house. Also, you can disenchant any of your old bind on equip or pickup items. Most players have to sell these to the vendor to get a very measly amount for them you could disenchant something worth several gold from them.

Engineering - well ... sadly ... you have to be an engineer to use engineering items. And, if you can use the item, it means you can make the item (except for high levels - goblin/gnomish). Yes, there is some money to be made in engineering, but certainly not as much as the other trades. The main place money can be made is in the items required for quests.

----------------------------------------
4) Buy Low / Sell High

This is getting into the more complex of the ways to make your gold.
To be able to buy low/sell high, you will need an initial investment.
I suggest at least 10 gold if not 50 - 100 gold. But, 10 gold will get you started.

The strategy is simple - buy an item at a lower price than it is worth or can be sold for, and then turn around and sell it for that higher price.

To do this, many players will watch the trade channel in their main city. They watch for WTS (wanting to sell) [item]. Players selling like this want to sell their item now and not wait for AH - this is the perfect opportunity for the low/high buying player. You simply send them a private message asking how much or by saying I will give you x gold for that item. From there, you negotiate. The idea is that you try to get the item as low as possible. Make sure you always buy lower than it can sell for - this means watching the auction house like a hawk. You have to know what is worth what and how quickly it sells. Supply vs. Demand.

So, now you have your item. Let's say you were able to buy it for 2g and it can sell at the auction house - ON the weekend - for 10g.
You've just made 8g. Now, all you have to do is wait until about 7 pm on Friday to put your item up, or any time will do on Friday. Just do the same thing here I suggested for the farmers.

Someone doing this may turn anywhere from 1g - 2000g in a day depending on how much they buy and sell. However, a rough way of figuring it out is that you can only make twice as much as your initial investment. Sometimes you may make less, sometimes more - but never expect any more than twice what you invested.

One last note: If you see an item up for less than it sells for, you know this by watching the market, IMMEDIATLY buy the item without a second thought. If you don't, someone else will.

------------------------------------------
5) Controlling the Market

This is by far the most involving way to make money in the world of warcraft. In this, you have to have a monopoly on the market - our example will be large glimmering shards. To start off, you will need a good bit, at least 10g if not 200g, of initial investment.

What you do is identify a market, large glimmering shards for our example, and start to up the price on it.

Let's say a stack of one large glimmering shard is selling for 90 silver. And, there are 10 shards up at the Auction House. To control this market, what you would do is completely buy out all of the large glimmering
shards- every last one of them. Then, you would go back and sell them for any price you decide as you are the only supply for large glimmering shards. Let's be reasonable and only sell them for 1 gold 80 silver.
Now, people are used
to them being 90 silver and will not buy them for the first week.
Also, you *must* have at least 3 - 5 items up at any given time for the price you have set. If they are not yours but are at 1 gold 80 silver, no problem. If someone puts them up for less, immediately buy them out.
After about a week of doing this, people will start to accept that the price of a large glimmering shard is now 1.8g. Also, the people selling the shards will think that they have been selling at 1.8g, so they will put them up for that amount as well. Now, all you have to do is sell off all of your large glimmering shards at 1.8g - you just made twice what you invested.

Now, it may seem that the buy low/ sell high would work better - but, where it differs is that you set the price. Make sure to no more than double it at first. But, once the price is accepted at 90s, then you could do the same thing, this time at 3 gold. All the time, you have more and more large glimmering shards. Sell those, and you have made 3x what you invested in the beginning.

Also, control more than one market. If you only control large glimmering shards, then you will only sell at a certain rate. Instead, control several markets. It can be anything - fish, herbs, items ... You could even decide to control the market for items level 30 - 40. That is, you buyout every item within that level range and then double the price.
The people that level will need items, and they will have to buy from you.

Two things to note:
First - other people will see the rise in price in that market and decide to start selling the item as well. If too many people do this, which ALWAYS happens, abandon the market - sell what you have left for more than you bought it for and be done with it. A way to identify if there is too much supply is if there are 20+ of that same item at the auction house. So, you will be controlling a market for roughly 2 - 3 weeks before you move on to another market due to increase in supply.

Secondly - people will NOT like you for doing this. In America (in the corporate world), this is considered illegal. You ARE monopolizing a market and giving people no choice but to buy from you. You WILL get a negative reputation if you do this long enough - especially if you stay in a market for too long. So, you may not necessarily do this with your main character.

One Last Thing - this method eats up a lot of time. You will have to check the auction house at least twice a day to make sure everything is fine and at your price. You may end up doing this over leveling even. So, only go for this method if you want a challenge. Remember, you cannot just buyout all of a market and expect the worth to change in one day - it takes at least a week of monitoring.

A note to those trying to fight the monopolizers - if they are doing it correctly, you can't beat them by selling for less. Instead, sell for more. If the price of an item goes too high, then the market will crash. Suddenly, the prices will be within reason again. You can force this by having a base price at a price you think it should be and a buyout higher than what the monopolizer is selling for. This way, someone gets the item for the right price OR the monopolizer must buy the item at a loss. There you go; there is your ammo for fighting the fight. Monopolizers - easy way to beat this is (can't tell you, trade secret)

So, that is about it for my little guide. I hope you have enjoyed it and learned at least a tiny bit from it. This has been a simple guide in economics really. Oh yeah, and all of these tactics work the same way in real life - save for the illegal monopolies. So, practice in WoW, and then you can maybe take it to real life.

Wow term - real world term
Gatherer - Supplier
Crafter - Plant/Industry/Restaurant
Farmer - Supplier
Buy Low / Sell High - Company/middle man supplier/store/ebayer Monopolizer - Microsoft

Enjoy, everyone!

warrior defense guide
