hier ne copy-paste van een ander forum, ik ken er persoonlijk te weinig van, maar mss andere mensen hier dat er meer van kennen er dit kunnen bevestigen of tegenspreken?
Apparently there are some issues regarding gameguard, which is a anti-hacking software that these assholes from aion install on your computer without even telling you about it. I have kaspersky internet security 2010 and both softwares don t get along. So i did some research on forums and google a bit gameguard and came up kinda worried. The gms on the forums actually tell people to uninstall their antivirus so that gameguard can run...This software will not go away even if you uninstall aion... and... well just let me copy and paste:
1. Gameguard is a Rootkit.
Gameguard (lovingly referred to as "Gayguard" by many) essentially operates as a "rootkit" on your computer. If you don't know what a rootkit is, then I suggest you give it a good hard Google...then after you recover...skip back to this post to read more. By installing a rootkit on your computer, you are essentially allowing the process to covertly maintain complete control over your computer.
2. It runs in the background after you close Aion.
Gameguard leaves behind processes that continue to run within your system, even after you stop playing Aion. Whether these processes are sending data to the creators in Korea, or watching your every move on the internet, we will never know. A rootkit is essentially free to do whatever it wants to.
3. You are often asked to disable all security software for it to run.
In order to run Gameguard without errors, you will often be told by people to disable your internet security, firewall, antivirus, or all of the above. Advice such as this can be found on the NCSoft Technical Support website, including telling people to unsintall their security software completely!
It's rather simple really: when a program needs you to disable your security or uninstall it in order to run properly, it doesn't take a genius to start asking why this is. Most antivirus programs report that Gameguard is a dangerous program and they do this for a reason. Having spent some time recently looking at exactly what this program does, I am not comfortable running it on my computer ever again.
4. Gameguard disables parts of your computer.
Gameguard disables certain functionality within your computer and hardware. It has been known to disable programs that monitor your systems internal operating temperature, so you will be unable to see whether your system is overheating. There have also been reports of Gameguard disabling the speedfan used to cool your CPU, leading to complete system meltdown. Furthermore, Gameguard disables certain keyboard and mouse functions (in particular the Logitech keyboard and Razer mouse), which leaves you rather stuck when you are used to certain mouse buttons or keyboard keys working (especially if you paid extra to enjoy them!).
5. Gameguard doesn't do anything to stop hacking.
From extensive testing during the beta's it has been confirmed that even with Gameguard running, you can use Macro Express while playing Aion. Macro Express is the number one macro/botting tool used by people and Gameguard doesn't do a single thing to try and stop it. Also, after doing some research on other games that use Gameguard, I have found a number of exploits written that actually require Gameguard to be present and running in order to run the exploit. This is no anti-hacking tool, if anything it is enabling hacking to be done more easily.
Just a heads up for peeps that didn t yet tried the game. I m trying to circunvent my antivirus problem to actually give it a go. Fortunately i can reset my system quite easily and get rid of that nuicance program in case i don t like the game
There is a list in wikipedia about which programs you are not allowed to have to actually run the game.
P.S. btw, wow uses ´Warden´ which works slightly different than gameguard. Basically it does not hijack your computer
