Dead Island takes over PlayStation Home - Gamersyde

Mysterious zombie apocalypse spreads on Home Square

25th July, 2011 – Hampshire, UK/... Deep Silver and Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) announced today that shortly before its release at the beginning of September, the zombie outbreak from the highly anticipated game Dead Island will also spread to PlayStation®Home, offering players an exclusive opportunity to further deepen their Dead Island experience through Home’s Total Game Integration campaign.

Terrifying zombies will lurk in the once peaceful Home Square and soon enough it will come to resemble the Royal Palms Resort on the tropical island of Banoi, with palm trees and beautiful tropical vegetation, a gorgeous beach and stunning view of the ocean, bringing the unique Banoi feeling to PlayStation Home visitors.

A Dead Island themed mini game will be available to PlayStation Home visitors in which players must prove their skills in crafting items and pit their abilities against attacks from a rampaging zombie horde. Just like the co-op mode in Dead Island this mini game can be played with up to 4 players in different play styles. In all, there are 10 mini-game challenges associated with the game users completing all 10 will be awarded with an exclusive in-game weapon “Exploding Meat”.

For a bit of relief players can have their photo taken with a zombie or take a zombie survival survey where they can prove their knowledge of the undead and earn 4 free PlayStation Home rewards. At the end participants will be rated with their estimated chance of survival in a real zombie apocalypse.

Certain items in the PlayStation®3 system version of the Dead Island will only be obtained through this PlayStation Home event. Each week will introduce more levels and unlockable content including a premium PlayStation Home reward “Exploding Zombie Outfit” for players that pre-order Dead Island directly from Home Square and the aforementioned “Exploding Meat”, a powerful weapon for use in Dead Island that can only be acquired by surviving the PlayStation Home onslaught.

PlayStation Home users will also be able to pre-order Dead Island through a themed kiosk directly from the Home Square.

Dead Island
Dead Island™, the upcoming gruesome zombie action game with RPG elements by renowned developer Techland, combines first-person action with a heavy focus on melee combat, character development and customisation of a vast array of weapons. All of these gameplay features are presented in a dark story inspired by classic zombie movies with a gritty and engrossing campaign that can be played with up to four players in co-op mode.

Set in an open world tropical island, hordes of different festering zombies await players around every corner while they embark on a variety of thrilling missions through the holiday resort. With firearms and ammunition being scarce the player must rely on discovering and utilising items as weapons for self-defense and fighting off zombie hordes in intense melee combat. A diverse range of items can be collected and will later serve to transform the player’s ordinary makeshift weapons into serious instruments of destruction.

Dead Island will be released worldwide for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC.

PS3 News: Revamped PlayStation Home: First official screens, details - ComputerAndVideoGames.com

Arriving this autumn, the new core experience for PlayStation Home features a "Hub and districts" design that will help you find games, people and places that fit your favourite game genres, says Sony.

The design offers a new Hub that integrates games, quests, community events and user-generated content, while providing PS3 owners with additional navigation, shopping, socialisation and entertainment options.

At the epicentre of the revamp is the new futuristic Hub, which features an 'Activity Board' filled with games to play, rewards to be won and a new UGC events system.

Powering the Activity Board, says Sony, is a massive new questing system that transforms Home itself into a game, ranging from frequently updated community activities to "huge, branching narrative adventures".

Surrounding the Hub will be districts based on game genres to suit players' moods. These districts will be packed with games and navigation points leading you to content that suits your style, says Sony.

They are (in Sony's words):
  • With a gritty, urban aesthetic reminiscent of a first-person shooter level, the Action District (shown above) is the perfect destination for gamers looking for action, shooter and horror games.
  • Come experience the outside-the-stadium feel of Sportswalk, which features up-to-the-minute major league sports scores, headlines and highlights, and sports-themed games.
  • Enter a lush beachfront jungle full of sights to see and adventure-themed games to discover in the Adventure District.
  • Pier Park (shown above) is your destination for carnival, puzzle, outdoor and arcade games, featuring a waterfront boardwalk, Ferris wheel and a fun party zone that is linked to dedicated indie and arcade game spaces.
On top of that, the platform holder has also announced it's going to upgrade Home's core client to provide a streamlined initial user experience, getting PS3 owners in and playing games faster. The aim is to create evolve Home into "the ultimate social game platform on consoles".

Hi everyone. I’ve got some huge news for you.

As you know, we’ve been working hard to fill PlayStation Home with hundreds of games – everything from pool tables and dart boards to full-on space shooters like Novus Prime: Escalation, zombie slashers like Dead Island Zombie Survivor, and massive online racing games like Sodium 2: Project Velocity. Today we are excited to announce a complete redesign of the heart of PlayStation Home to reinforce our evolution into the ultimate social game platform on consoles today. This redesign will connect you with the world of hundreds of games in Home faster and better than ever before.

Coming in Fall 2011, this new core experience for PlayStation Home features a “hub and districts” design that will help you find games, people and places that fit your favorite game genres. The design features a new Hub that integrates games, quests, community events, and user-generated content, while providing you with additional navigation, shopping, socialization and entertainment options.

The new, futuristic Hub (shown below) brings an ever changing roster of games right to the center of Home, including Cogs from Codename: Lazy 8 Studios which will be featured front and center on day one. The Hub will also feature a new Activity Board filled with games to play, rewards to be won, a new UGC events system, and cool stuff to discover.

Powering this Activity Board is a massive new questing system that literally transforms Home itself into a game if you so choose. From frequently updated community activities to huge, branching narrative adventures, this questing system will provide game play options delivered to you in ways never before imagined.

Additionally, surrounding the Hub will be districts based on game genres to suit your mood. Whether you want an intense, in-your-face experience, or a more chill, laid-back environment, these districts will be packed with games and navigation points leading you to content that suits your style.

On top of all this great news, I’m excited to announce that we are going to upgrade Home’s core client to provide a streamlined initial user experience, getting you in and playing games faster than ever before. This upgrade will be deployed as a separate release from the redesign, and together they will underscore PlayStation Home’s evolution into a world filled with hundreds of games ready for you to play, making Home the ultimate social game platform on consoles.

We hope you’re as excited about PlayStation Home’s new core experience as we are!

Idd, het is op zich wel leuk, ik amuseerde me wel in die cinema en met met biljarten enzo. Maar alles gaat zo verdomd traag dat het alle fun eruit wegneemt..
