“This is a rebuild from the ground up,” Just Add Water studio head Stewart Gilray tells Game Informer. “I think there are maybe two textures in the game that existed in the original right now. Neither of them may exist in the finished version.”
Gilray says the art is “99 percent complete” and the game is on track for its spring release (though he won’t tell us exactly when yet, as the certification process isn’t entirely predictable). Oddworld: New ’n’ Tasty is being built in Unity, but the earliest footage of the complete remake shown in 2012 was from six months of work in another engine. When the game slipped from fall 2013 to spring 2014, the team had only been working with Unity for nine months.
He expects to ship the title to third-party testing in the next week or two, with submission to Sony for PS3, PS4, and Vita release immediately thereafter. A release for PC, Mac, and Linux will follow approximately a month later, with a Wii U version planned for later down the line.
So, it’s GDC week and to celebrate we wanted to share with you all the very first gameplay trailer for Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty.
We know you, our biggest fans, are eager to play the game, and we’re doubly eager to share it with you – but we just need a few more weeks to get it exactly where we want it to be. So, in terms of a release date – we’re going to be able to announce when the game will be available to buy before E3 starts on the 9th of June. The game won’t be out before E3 – sorry – but that’s our promise in terms of letting you know when it will be.
We are especially excited to confirm the price of the game – Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty will release on PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 for $29.99 in the US, €24.99 in Europe and – approximately – £19.99 in the UK.
We’re also delighted to reveal that the game will be Cross Buy on PlayStation platforms, meaning that if you buy New ‘n’ Tasty from the PlayStation Store on one platform, you’ll also get the other two versions included. We’re also busily implementing Cross Save, so you’ll be able to take your progress from the PS3 and PS4 versions on the road (and vice versa) if you also have a Vita!
We're delighted to say that Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty will be available on PlayStation 4 on the 22nd (US) / 23rd (Europe) of July.
