Right....my little project to take some piccies of possible 'in demand'/rare/future valuable wii games turned into a full day thing! It was worth it though....
I started at noon and have just finished putting everything back - phew!
Right, before we start, this comes with my regular health warning. I'm not saying that they're all rare, just that in MY OPINION, they have a certain desirability from a collector perspective. They may become rare in future, they may increase in value, they may end up in every single bargain bin in the land! It's purely up for discussion.
First up, some games with 'solid' values. They're not obscure, but have solid heritage. They always seem to go for a tenner or above. Always have and always will. I would've liked to have included the Mario Galaxies as well, but unfortunately, they're still at my folks' and hence not pictured.
Next up, it's the holy four.... Undoubtedly, these will already be in some of your collections. These will always remain desirable to wii collectors.
Next up, the 'fairly safe bets'. I think most people acknowledge that the RPGs as one of the most generically collectable titles of any collection. As such, demand for these is usually high....and should continue to be. Rising Star titles seem to be fashionable as well. Yes, even the likes of Eldar Saga commands a fair price, even though it's not supposed to be that good. I wasn't too sure whether to include the Agatha Christie titles, but...ah well, too late to retake the piccie now. These aren't all RPGs, I've also included Adventure and Strategy games here. It's debatable whether Zack and Wiki should be included. It's definitely a great adventure game, but I felt it was too common to be included.
Next up, the difficult ones. A lot of these 'may' be a nightmare to find in the future. Some of them are the sort of games that never appealed to anyone and therefore don't really surface as used games regularly in your mainstream outlets. This selection is truly debateable. There are many other titles that could fit into this category, for example, loads of obscure Nordic Games racers. There are tons of them. Unfortunately, they're supposed to be terrible and cheeky amazon sellers are still commanding high premiums for them and hence I haven't touched them with a bargepole. These type of titles may only appeal to those who think that someday, they may want to go fullset on the wii - like me!
Next up, some titles that are already considered to be collectable. For various reasons and distribution quirks (Konami/Hudson titles for example), may not have been widely available/sold in the UK. As such, they obatained a reputation for being collectable - maybe frequently being mentioned on forum wii rarity threads. These aren't RPGs (which were covered above), it's everything else.
Next up, some titles that pretty much go for pences currently. Totally subjective, but they may make it in to the desirable list. The Mario Anniversary was added in here because I forgot to add it in my first picture.
Next up, the big box/special edition type stuff. There are literally hundereds of special editions for the wii. Tons of bundles with motion plus add ons, contollers, wheels, guns, even a blow up go kart! I've not bothered taking pics of all of them, but just a selection of those which could be collectable in future.
Lastly, there are those recent releases. With the introduction of the wii-u, the ol' low res wii is in my opinion towards the end of its life. There are still games being released and to me, they broadly fit in to two catagories. Collectable and 'leave alone'. I've pictured below 4 recent releases which appealed to me (people may disagree with Quiz Party but it's supposed to be OK). Other ones that I refused to pay over a tenner for would include Battleship, MIB and Ice Age 4. I haven't quite made up my mind yet about Back to the Future.
.....I thank you for taking the time to read my ramble!
Please, as mentioned before, I'm not right and if you have any opinions on anything I've missed or anything you disagree with - please share!
