Dead or Alive 5 takes some of the series staples and gives them a bit of a twist. They don’t seem to be wholly new ideas, but rather tweaks to make the fights more dynamic.
For instance, the Danger Zones from previous iterations are now called Dynamic Attractions. In previous games, Danger Zones were the breakable walls or the exploding floors, but now they include things such as the violently swinging crane or the falling concrete slabs that were featured in the premiere trailer. Dynamic Attractions now serve as bold traps that await players in the stage. I guess you could say that they’re also evolutions of the cars and animals from DOA4′s street and safari stages.
A “new” technique called Power Blows are being introduced, and according to Famitsu’s article, they seem to be attacks that blow back your enemy. I’m not sure how this differs from a lot of the attacks that are already in Dead or Alive (i.e. Ein’s 66P or Ryu’s 4P+K) but the magazine does mention that when the Power Blows are used to knock back an opponent into a Dynamic Attraction, more strategic options are added. From what I’ve heard, during these short cutscenes leading up to the attack the opposing player can counter and turn the tables on the attacker. So in the case of the debut trailer, instead of Ryu getting knocked down to the intersection below, he can counter and send Hayate down there instead.
