I love Xbox live. There's nothing like barking orders to your squad in Black Arrow or talking trash after sticking some loser in Madden. I don't, however, like it when my headset craps out when my team or squad needs me the most. Let's face it, the lifespan of the average headset isn't all that long. If only someone would take the time to construct a quality headset that would be comfortable to wear for marathon gaming. And if it happened to be easy on the eyes, so much the better. Luckily for us, the communication connoisseurs at Plantronics have done just that with their GameCom Halo 2 Edition headset. This top of the line headset is the only headset officially licensed by Bungie Studios and Microsoft to wear the coveted Halo 2 name and logo.
Sounds great, but is this some kind of fly-by-night electronics company that may not be around to stand behind their product? Plantronics is the preferred headset microphone of the FAA, the military and millions of 911 emergency operators. Remember the phrase "One small step for man… one giant leap for mankind,"? That was originally spoken into a Plantronics microphone. How's that for a pedigree?
And their headsets have gotten even better since then. We tested the GameCom Halo 2 Edition headset and were frankly blown away by the sound quality of both the earpiece and the mike. The ear speaker provided crystal clear audio and the noise-canceling microphone gave distortion free transmissions even when the background was less than quiet. Sporting an adjustable mike boom, the microphone can be tailor positioned for a custom fit. And the GameCom's contoured one-ear fit is so comfortable, you'll forget that you have it on even after hours of fragging your buddies. Did I also mention that it looks freakin' awesome?
