Geen zin om in ellelange rijen aan te schuiven op gamescom voor Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Crysis 3 of een van de andere games van EA? Begrijpelijk. Maar wie weet is er een uitweg. De uitgever verloot namelijk enkele Fastpasses voor de gamebeurs. De Fastpasses verlenen je snelle toegang tot de voorstelling van de door jouw gekozen game.

Om zo een Fastpass te winnen, moet je naar deze speciale website van EA gaan. Op de website kan je tussen de games FIFA 13, SimCity, Crysis 3, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, Need for Speed: Most Wanted en Star Wars: The Old Republic kiezen. Per game krijg je vijf pogingen om een code te bemachtigen.

Geen code gewonnen? Geen nood, scan een van de QR-codes die te vinden zijn op de EA booth tijdens gamescom en krijg opnieuw vijf kansen om een Fastpass te winnen. Een smartphone op zak hebben tijdens de Duitse beurs lijkt ons dan ook een aanrader.

Sony heeft bevestigd dat het naar jaarlijkse gewoonte een persconferentie zal houden naar aanleiding van de gamescom-beurs in Keulen. Op dinsdag 14 augustus om 19:00, de dag voor de beurs begint, mogen we al het laatste PS3- en PS Vita-nieuws verwachten. Er wordt verwacht dat Sony de 'PS3 Super Slim' zal onthullen, na de eerder gelekte beelden.

Het zou overigens niet de eerste keer zijn dat Sony vernieuwde hardware toont op gamescom. In 2009 werd de PS3 Slim onthuld in Duitsland en vorig jaar werd een nieuwe PSP-versie getoond.

Organizers of gamescom have told CVG the GTA V footage show in its promotion video for the event was added “in error.”


Gamescom project manager Tim Endres explained: “Rockstar Games is not scheduled and has never been scheduled to exhibit at Gamescom 2012,” adding that the offending footage has since been removed from the video.

“We apologize for any confusion this may have caused,” he added.

Earlier this month, a suspect LinkedIn profile claimed Grand Theft Auto V, Table Tennis Tournament 2 and an unknown Valve project would be shown at the show, but the news was quickly shot down by gamescom officials.

A VG247 source has claimed that Sony will not announce PS3-4000 at its gamescom press conference on August 14.


PS3-4000, the latest, slimmest version of Sony’s current console, will not be announced at the main Sony gamescom press conference on August 14, VG247 has been told.

A gamescom reveal had been planned, but stock levels of the current build are said to be too high for Sony to move onto what is probably the last take on PS3 before PlayStation 4 is announced next year.

In addition, a source today said that the rumoured 16Gb version of PS3-4000 is in fact real, and is based on Flash memory. There was some confusion surrounding the figure, which originated from Anatel, the Brazilian Agency of Telecommunications, with many assuming it was intended to read 160Gb.

The new model will stack up against Microsoft’s 4Gb Flash-based Xbox 360. As the 16Gb PS3-4000 will have a flip-lid disc input and low-capacity storage, we’ve been told today that the announcement “may” be accompanied by a huge price cut, with the entry version potentially dropping as low as £99.

We’ve since been told, however, that there are no plans for a £99 PS3.

In addition to the 16Gb version, 250GB and 500GB options have been rumoured.

Ubisoft has announced its line-up for gamescom, and has also released a time for press conference which takes place during the event.


Ubisoft’s press conference will take place at 3.00pm on August 15 in the Konrad-Adenauer-Saal, Congress-Centrum North. Therein, executives will unveil new free-to-play titles set in the universes of some of Ubisoft’s franchises and detail the company’s plans in e-sports and other growing online game genres.

Starting August 16, Gamescom attendees can visit Ubisoft’s booth inside hall 7 to try many of Ubisoft’s upcoming games, including:

• Assassin’s Creed III
• Assassin’s Creed III Liberation
• Far Cry 3
• Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Online
• Shootmania: Storm

Gamers also can try the following games on Wii U:
• Rabbids Land
• Rayman Legend
• Sports Connection
• Your Shape Fitness Evolved 2013
• ZombiU

Attendees also can watch an extended demo of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist, and see Just Dance 4 , the Hip Hop Dance Experience and The Settlers Online in the main stage area of Ubisoft’s booth.

In addition, the finals of the Op3n ShootMania GamesCom 2012 tournament will take place in the Electronic Sports League booth during the afternoon of August 17, and will be broadcast live from the Ubisoft booth’s main stage.

For those attending the Cologne Pop Festival, Ubisoft will have a Rocksmith bus available where players can get their paws on the guitar game.
