Microsoft’s Larry Hryb – better known as Major Nelson – has set Xbot hearts a-flutter by posting a countdown timer to E3 2013 with the enigmatic comment “And it’s on.” Although there’s a good five months to go before the June event, anticipation is already high. Microsoft is strongly tipped to debut its next console, apparently codenamed Durango, ahead of a possible holiday season release.

Today, during Sony's massive PlayStation conference in New York City, Final Fantasy Brand Director Shinji Hashimoto announced that a new Final Fantasy would debut at E3 2013.

The announcement came suddenly following Luminous Game Engine Director Yoshihisa Hashimoto's presentation. Although no details about this new Final Fantasy were given, Shinji Hashimoto did say his announcement was connected to the PlayStation 4 reveal, implying that the next Final Fantasy would be revealed as a PlayStation 4 game.

2K Games won’t have a booth on the floor at E3 this year, despite one of Take Two’s biggest titles hitting in September [GTA V], and the Civ V expansion on the way, not to mention the new XCOM. According to a post on the 2K forums, the publisher will instead be using Twitch and its YouTube channels to discuss its ware leading up to the June event. 2K doesn’t specifically state it or Take-Two won’t have a presence at the event, just that it won’t have anything on the showroom floor.

Montreal —May 29, 2013 — Today, Ubisoft revealed its lineup of titles for what the company expects to be one of the most significant editions of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in years. At 3 p.m. PDT on June 10, Ubisoft leads off with an invitation-only media briefing at the Los Angeles Theatre that will feature first looks at Ubisoft’s upcoming lineup, including exclusive next-generation games, innovative editions of popular franchises and new brands and titles.

Following the press conference, E3 attendees can visit Ubisoft’s booth (#1023 situated in the South Hall at the Los Angeles Convention Center) to check out a number of highly anticipated games, including Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, Rayman Legends, South Park™: The Stick of Truth™, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist, Watch Dogs and more. Throughout the week, there also will be a number of special guests and live performances at the booth.

“This is a pivotal moment for the video game industry, and E3 is the opportunity for us to share our vision for the future,” said Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO, Ubisoft, “We have many incredible games in development, and we’re especially excited to share more on our next-gen titles, which will deliver more connected, immersive and interactive experiences to our fans.”

As the industry transitions to a new console cycle, past market trends and Ubisoft’s internal estimates indicate that within two years the next-gen consoles’ installed base could double that of the previous generation over a comparable period. In a Playstation Blog post, Sony announced that it is “planning to showcase more than 40 games across PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.”

Among the games that the publisher will be showing include Beyond: Two Souls, Destiny, DriveClub, The Evil Within, Gran Turismo 6, InFamous, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Killzone Mercenary, The Last of Us, Tearaway, and Wolfenstein: The New Order.

There is no word as to how many of the games will be newly announced, or how many we have seen before. The Playstation E3 press conference will begin Monday, June 10 and will be streamed live.
