The truth about the Enemy Territory scene
Lately ClanBase announced EuroCup LAN finals sponsored by GGL. As a member of the ClanBase Enemy Territory crew, we were suprised that ET did not get LAN finals. Instead, we got around total of 1000 EUR for the winners. While it's certainly better than nothing, such a game as CoD got a prize purse of 7500 EUR. So what exactly is wrong with the ET scene?
Activity
Perhaps we shouldn't be surprised that ClanBase didn't hand out LAN finals... Is the ET community to blame? Take a look last month's ClanBase activity stats; ET is placed as 10th, having less activity than CounterStrike, Medal Of Honor, Call of Duty, Unreal, Tactical Ops, Spearhead, PES4, SOF2 and Half-Life 2. Judging from these statistics alone - does ET even deserve another EuroCup?
When I first saw the numbers, I was honestly surprised. The majority of the clans signed up for OpenCup Spring 2005 do not even play two matches a week on ClanBase. My point is this: How can we expect organisations such as ClanBase to provide a community that is seemingly inactive with large rewards and difficult-to-arrange LAN finals? Can we really use the argument "ET is more popular than CoD" for the cause? Unlikely.
Assumption: In ET, people just play for the cups and not for the ladders.
Take a look at CoD S&D's OpenCup Spring 2005. They have fewer clans overall signed up than ET OpenCup Spring 2005. However, you can see from previous statistics that CoD's activity number is about four times bigger than Enemy Territory's, with Medal of Honour almost ten times more active in the smaller CB ladders.
I believe that these statistics are somewhat unfair and is down to people playing only "friendly" wars and not ClanBase and WarLeague officials. Are we afraid of losing? Is that it? We refrain from jumping in the deep end and putting our name on the line incase we lost? Even the contenders for this and last season's EuroCup play very few (if any) official wars on smaller ladders. Why not play friendly wars officially then? It doesn't hurt if you have lost some rounds in CB for example; your ego cannot be that huge.
ET is not sexy for the media
Currently, most of the top multigaming teams like sk and mTw haven't got an ET squad. I've seen that most of the scenes hardly know what ET is and they completely underestimate it. One of the biggest calls made on ET is that it is a "Spammier version of RTCW" or "It's old and dead now." My plea to you is that you get out there and stop being so "friendly" to other clans! Make things more official! We all know that if there is pressure on something - we will play better. Go and beg top clans to create ET squads if you have to!
ET is a free game and has no market
Do you honestly think EA cares about sponsoring CoD? It might hold hollow sponsorships with such companies as Nvidia - but what is it doing for the community? ET has bright future if people would just change their attitude. Play more official wars to raise their activity numbers! Do you really want CounterStrike, Medal Of Honour and CoD take all sponsors away from you? Take to the streets with the trademark ET logo on a flag if you have to! As a CB ET supervisor I cannot stand that outsiders underestimate our scene.

EDIT: Some of
Finnish clans have agreed to play all wars as official. This covers top clans like roistot and Mirage. There is list available at here! I encourage you to do same in your own country's scene or post a reply to this topic if you are willing to play your matches as official without any problems. This is great news to hear, we're going to right direction. Spread the word.
