Sorry voor het Engels, maar ik had geen zin en vooral geen tijd meer om deze "review" nog eerst te vertalen. Het is wel mijn originele post, maar op een Engelstalig forum, so there...
Alone in the Dark (DVD): Now before you go nuts and declare me insane for having this on DVD, let me tell you I bought it for €10 from a guy that has a movie review site and gets all that stuff as promo material. That's €10 for a special edition steelbook™ version that also comes with the 2001 3-disc Alone in the Dark: New Nightmare PC game. In short: the packaging is better than the movie and I just had to have it to complete my Uwe Boll fanboi collection and €10 was by far the cheapest I could get it (and I even looked in R1) and this packaging rawks!
Still, the movie isn't nearly as bad as House of the Dead, which I still think is a real shame. I'm convinced that if this movie wasn't called Alone in the Dark and didn't have Uwe Boll's name anywhere on it, it wouldn't have gotten the reviews it got now because frankly, while certainly not a good movie and laughable in places, it isn't worse than 75% of the b-movie monster action crap. And I don't buy into the Uwe Boll makes bad movies on purpose either anymore. If this had been like HotD, then yes, but I have the feeling he just wanted to make a movie he'd enjoy watching with lots of monsters, action and blowing crap up. It's just that he's not very good at it. Still, I've seen worse, a lot worse. Try sitting through Arachnid for example, and that had the "respected" Jack Sholder at the helm. Need anything more high profile? How about Tomb Raider? Yeah, that's right, that was a hit, but it is complete and utter shit and I rank it lower than AitD because it made even less sense.
Of course, AitD wasn't a good flick and I won't defend it as a movie, but I will defend it against the negative hype because this had all the symptoms of hype where objectivity goes out of the window...
Last thing: Tara Reid wouldn't know acting if it crept up to her and bit in her inflated frankenboobs...
