Hoe komt dat toch dat er opvallend veel mensen in het VK afschuwelijk lelijke tanden hebben?

Zijn tandartsen daar zo onoverkomelijk duur of is het iets cultureels?
Research suggests that it is due to the way that we are bought up and live (environmental). We have been human for 160,000, if we look at skeletal remains they always had straight teeth until the last few 1000. All groups, in all places at all ages. Anthropologists and archaeologists, have shown that it is our modern lifestyle that is causing the problem. Our food is very soft so we do not use our jaws, and use it or lose it (we have lost it). Due to nasal allergies we changed the posture of our jaws, lowering them. If we hang our mouths open with reduced muscle function our faces become longer, but of course narrower and shorter reducing the cross sectional area which leaves less space for the teeth.
The softer the food the worse this is and the British have one of the softest diets in the world. Also the NHS have held down the costs paid to orthodontist to the point where treatment has been compromised and the international reputation of high street orthodontist in the UK is one of the worse in the world.
These two factors have contributed to the poor dental alignment in the UK, ie more problem and a poor corrections.
