hieronder de engelse versie van m'n verhaal (reeds op ander forum gepost en te lui om te vertalen
)
right, so here's the thing:
windows XP on a dell Vostro1000 laptop, everything runs great untill a few weeks ago.
whenever i click a shortcut that needs a program to open my explorer kind of hangs. it doesn't crash but it takees 5-10min to perform the task. during this time desktop/taskbar doesn't respond anymore. when i close explorer.exe and restart it using taskmanager, everything responds again.
this only happens with extension which are link to installed programs e.g. doc, xls, html... i can start Word, Excel, Firefox perfectly and open the documents in there.
shortcut to Firefox, Word, ... works too. It's just the association that seems to be fucked.
in the beginning, a system restore would work for a few days, now that doesnt work anymore. nothing gets installed during those days, so i cant pinpoint it to some kind of update.
things i've tried: check all services / startup programs, run antispyware, antivirus, ran RegistryMechanic about 20 times. After fixing the initial 300 errors it always finds and repairs 1 named InProcServer32.
Any ideas?
i googled around a bit, found 1 guy who kinda described my problem back in 2003 but he fixed it with a registry scan.
i'm kinda desperate, and formatting this is really really the ULTIMATE way out. i wanna fix this in another way somehow.
