Concept:
Retro-Acid is Kozzmozz' second oldest concept and celebrates the infamous Roland TB-303 bass machine. Thé party for the fans of the 303 and it’s unmistakable Acid sound, the machine that formed and shaped electronic music and keeps influencing it. It surely did so in the early days when we loved to dance to it ! And the current Acid revival proves that we still do today !
It also means the Retro Acid parties are still very alive and kicking and again we have invited some international guests that have been active in electronic music for a very long time and know the acid sounds of the beginning like no others …
First up is Dr. Motte who not only organized his first acid house party in 1989, during the famous “Summer of Love” but he’s also the man responsible for the huge success of the now worldwide organized Love Parade. This first demonstration for Love, Peace & Electronic Music started out with 150 participants in 1989 to grow to over 1.500.000 dancing people more than 10 years later. Dr. Motte also released the various Love Parade anthems with Westbam on Low Spirit Recordings and runs his own label and clubnights “Praxxiz” in Berlin.
Second up is another German producer, this time from Münich who we know best as Richard Bartz who’s produced albums for Disko B, Cocoon and EFA. But he’s also a great acid connoisseur under his alias “Acid Scout” with albums such as “Musik fur Millionen” and “Safari”. As Richard Bartz he has just released a new full live album that’s also a dvd and that’s composed of his live-set at the Harry Klein club in Münich.
Our resident Spacid has played a lot of major clubs in Belgium and abroad ( Weekend Club – Berlin, The Key and Trash – Uk , Paradiso and Melkweg – Nl , … ) but he’s still at his best at home !
Two underground dj’s and producers from Belgium will join them.
G303 who’s releases we can find on Subcom Records and Animal Trax has a lot in store for us in 2008 as records on Stoorzender rec, Binary Bassline, Kugelbox rec are to be expected. He will give us a preview in his full blown acid live set.
And Zeck who’s earned his stripes with the Mutate Crew and the 7days festival in Ghent will bring one of his famous acid dj sets.
Acid in the house !!!!!!
Artists:
Dr.Motte (Originator of LoveParade Berlin, Praxxiz rec - Berlin)
It is in 1989. In England the “Summer of Love” is announced. Illegal parties are being busted by the police. “Acid-House” is the theme in the English music mags Face & I.D. Dr. Motte, one of Berlin’s underground DJs as well as a musician, owner of the club “Turbine Rosenheim”, is full of enthusiasm. The first acid-house party is organized by Dr. Motte and DJ Jonzon.
Dr. Motte announces the Berlin “Summer of Love”: the Love Parade. “...I just wanted to find out whether it works here too, and create a platform for the small Berlin Techno-scene...” (Dr. Motte). The first Love Parade (Friede, Freude, Eierkuchen) with 150 participants at the Kurfürstendamm in Berlin takes place.
In 1992 Dr. Motte and 3 Phase produce the club hit “Klang der Familie” on Tresor
Records; the first release is 3-Phase feat. Dr. Motte – “Open Your Mind”; the first
solo maxi is released on Space Teddy Records: “Euphorhythm – Patrik” as well as
the debut album “Chill Out Planet Earth”.
Together with Westbam he produces the summer hit “Sunshine” on Low Spirit Records in 1997 ; it is placed on number 5 in the charts. Dr. Motte is also awarded the Viva Comet Award for the “Best National Pop Event” at the Cologne music fair Popkomm. Also his first exhibition takes place: Dr. Motte Projections – abstract realism; photographs by Dr. Motte, presented in the gallery Institut in Berlin.
In 1998 10th Love Parade “One World – One Future” reaches 1,000,000
participants. Dr. Motte can be seen for the first time in a video clip to his new
release „Patrik“ and can be heard in his first radio show „Love Parade Countdown“ on
Radio Fritz. Dr. Motte also produces the Love Parade Hymn “Love Parade 1998 : One
World – One Future” in cooperation with Westbam. It reaches rank 6 in the charts
Dr. Motte creates and organizes the first benefit performance and exhibition “Schöne Neue Welt” (Brave New World) in cooperation with Danielle de Picciotto and Space Teddy Records sponsored by the “Staatsgalerie Stuttgart” and the Love Parade. 19 European painters, actors and musicians paint their version of “Schöne Neue Welt” during one day at the Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. The paintings are being auctioned at the “Staatsgalerie Stuttgart” with Germany’s famous actor Ben Becker as the auctioneer. Space Teddy Records releases a CD for this event. The nets of DM 30,000 are being sponsored to the “Nordoff/Robins foundation” for autistic children who receive treatment through musical therapies.
In 1999 Dr. Motte receives the “BZ-Kulturpreis 1998” (Berlin’s famous award for cultural events) while 11th Love Parade “Music is the Key” has now gone up to 1,500,000 participants. Dr. Motte & Westbam present “Music is the Key” on Low Spirit Recordings. Dr. Motte is awarded the “Bambi”, Germany’s most popular award for creativity (an award given to well-known personalities for their achievements)
In 2000, there’s the 12th Love Parade “One World – One Love Parade”. Dr. Motte &
Westbam present “One World One Love Parade” on Low Spirit Recordings. In
2001, along with several remixes for Ramirez, Malaria, Frankie Bones ‚ he produced
“My House Is Your House”. His new label “Praxxiz” takes off !
In 2002 , 14th Love Parade “Access Peace”. It’s also the first time, the Love
Parade is happening simultaneous in different cities like Tel Aviv, Kapstadt and
Leeds. He establishes the clubnights “Praxxiz” at the CasinoClub, in Berlin, once a
month, with DJs like DJ Hell, DMX Crew, Marusha, Tanith and many more. Dr. Motte
also produces his version of “Access Peace” released on Low Spirit Recordings
In 2003 for the 15th Love Parade “Love Rules”, he releases: Bush Fire (12") on DJ Sets Records, Love Rules (Love Parade 2003) (CD, Maxi) on Low Spirit Recordings and Love Rules (Loveparade 2003) (Remixes) (12") on Low Spirit Recordings
The following years Dr. Motte works a lot in his studio and is booked in many different countries. In 2006 he left Love Parade because of disagreements with Rainer Schaller (new owner of Love Parade) and dedicated this year to a lot of press work.
His engagement as a DJ is now more popular then ever, even without being a part in Love Parade anymore. Dr. Motte travels around the world recognized as an ambassador of techno. Dr. Motte visits Corea, China, Venezuela, Poland, Switzerland, Austria, Ukraine, Russia and now also Retro Acid ... an istagnator from the very beginning !
Richard Bartz aka Acid Scout live (Kurbel, Gigolo, Cocoon Records, Munich)
Attending the legendary Ultraworld parties in 1991, he soon made contacts with Disko B label chef Upstart and DJ Hell. Pretty soon, his first productions, remixes for Disko B, were released, followed by the DJ Hell album Geteert und Gefedert where he acted as producer.
In 1994, his first solo project was released under the name of Acid Scout: Acid Scout on 4 Degree and Horn EP on the Vienna label Pomelo. He started to play his material live, leaving important clubs like the Tresor in Berlin or the Stammheim in Kassel stunned by his dense performance. His first album Safari and his Sci-Fi record followed.
Richard Bartz decided to found his own label, Kurbel Records, starting off with own productions and later licensing fellow artists. For Kurbel, he laid off the Acid Scout pseudonym to work under project names like Saug 27 or Ghettoblaster or using his very own birth name.
Off-Kurbel, he is constantly producing for other labels, like his album Musik für Millionen or the Evolution Revolution EP on Disko B, or the Subway EP on Heiko Laux' Kanzleramt label.
And now the Munich Techno and House Icon - Richard Bartz has released a furious live-album as CD and full-feature DVD. The decision to make a live-album from his last booking in Munich's Harry Klein Club came to Richard Bartz immediately after his performance: "A live-gig like that doesn't come around every day. The people were crazy. They always wanted more. So I just played wilder and wilder. At the end it was obvious to me: that was so unusual, it has to be released." And now it's finally arrived, in the form of a collaboration between Kurbel and Harry Klein Records - the new label that will be releasing a series of 12"s - entitled "Richard Bartz Live at Harry Klein - Visuals by BettyMü".
The bonus material is in large part taken from the new tracks from the techno and house producer Richard Bartz. 12 of the 15 songs are previously unreleased. Bartz has remained true to his roots - still providing his fans with the same style that they love him for; he is the master of analogue techno. Bartz doesn't use any digital sounds - he considers himself to be the "analogue bastion against the army of digital music" - in other words, all those people who make dance music on a laptop without any care or love. Bartz has a whole factory of old and new synthesizers which produce sounds in a modular system.
Through his unique production style, he creates his signature roughness, deep but at the same time warm. "I like it, when you can here the electricity flowing through the machines". That's a great way to sum up Bartz's aesthetic. Bartz uses these same effects in his live performances, but lets them run over a computer purely as a matter of simplicity. The sound that Bartz produces is through-and-through old-school, jacking house music. "Naturally I'm primarily influenced by the dirty Chicago sound. That, for me, is perfect dance music. If I produce a song, I've always got the right dance moves in my head". On the DVDplus one appreciates the impressive way in which Bartz builds his sets - by the end of the set there's a crazy acid-mashup pumping out of the speakers.
Spacid (Retro acid, Ultra, Ghent)
Spacid started collecting music from a very early age and played occasionally on weddings and block parties. His first influences were Synthesizer Greatest (Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis ...) and new wave club classics (Front 242, Depeche Mode ...), later welcoming Belgium's New Beat craze and early Chicago house.
Spacid's first steps playing in front of a public dates back to 1991, while being a resident dj at Le Café in Kortrijk. There, once settled behind his trusty Technics, he played all the early electronic music this dance culture had to offer in those days. Together with some friends, Spacid organized his first party in 1992, which turned out to be a big success. After a few parties in the club Carioca, he was involved in setting up the club Cirao in Waregem Belgium. He was 17 then. The club was short-lived but is still remembered as one the legendary and trendsetting clubs in Belgium.
1994 saw the founding of Funky Green Aliens, a party organisation and booking agency concentrating on promoting groundbreaking music & arts and introducing international artists to the Belgian scene. These parties, mostly illegal, were very successful and still to this day represent the true roots of Spacid's dj career.
By 1997 he was propelled to slots at the biggest clubs and parties in Belgium and abroad, such as Dance Valley, Ten Days Off and Kozzmozz. His name started popping up in all major Belgian clubs and events and today he is resident at various important party concepts such as Body To Body at the famous Culture Club, Beats Of Love, Elektron, Retro Acid, Ultra ..
Apart from a busy dj schedule in Belgium he regularly plays abroad. Just have a look at line-ups of parties, festivals and clubs in France, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Poland and Malta. He manned the decks in British clubs and parties like Club Trash, Herbal, The Key, House of God, Downtownsounds, Human Zoo, Death disco and played in about every major Dutch club such as Paradiso, Club 013, Melkweg, Effenaar, Doornroosje. He was even invited at the Berlin Weekend club and Paris's 'Respect is Burning'.
A real ambassador of the vibrant club scene, both his quest for innovation and his reverence for the past transpire in his work as a dj. Spacid's sets are fuelled by an underlying thought process aimed at providing party people a good time and at the same time opening up music that is less evident to a larger public.
G 303 Live (subcom rec, animal trax, M48 dod pro, Brussels)
About a decade ago, in the late nineties, G303 started out as a dj, spinning acid/tek/mash-up/core/bleep/hardshiit! In these 10 years he played on several underground parties all around Belgium, sharing line-ups with artists like Michael Forshaw, Paul Birken, Brothers on Acid, Arkanoid, DJ Nasty, Manu Le Malin, Rude 66, Nessbeth, BOR, Debasser, Hellfish, Disco D, Chaos, BEN, The Masturbator, Spanking rec crew, Carbo and syncope just to name a few..
After several years of deejaying he felt like he could do more of what he really wanted as a producer then as a dj, so he took his first small steps as a producer somewhere in 2004, together with Alectroid. The duo began operating and decided to become the Midiotz. In 2005 they gave their first live performances and in 2006 the first Midiotz release was a fact.
Right now G303 is mainly focusing on solo producing and live-acts as well as running some labels together with the man behind DOD-productions, Dream.
His producing styles can vary between acid / bleeps / techno / house / core but for live gigs he usually tends to go towards his own vision of wonky techno and acid…
His work can already be found on record labels as Subcom records and Animal Trax, and for 2008 trax are also to be found on Stoorzender rec, Binary Bassline, Kugelbox rec, and more to be confirmed.G303 is a proud member of the MIGRAEN M48 collective and the DOD family.
Zeck (Mutate, 7 days, Ghent)
Zeck, a Ghent-based dj, started playing bleepy techno, electro and acid at small parties and squats in and around Ghent. Influenced by all kinds of electronic music he became a vinyl-junkie and gathered a serious record collection with a large diversity of styles. Zeck has become an experienced dj. Bringing variety and quality in his sets is his main goal.
After a few years he and some friends founded the Mutate Krew, known for their excellent parties with many international guests at different locations, and later he became co-organiser of the 7days festival in Ghent. Over the years Zeck played at parties all around the country with artists like Ceephax, Adam X, Choose, Laura Grabb, µ-Ziq, Bogdan Raczynski, Ra-X, Subhead and many more..
