Native Resolution - Native resolution refers to the resolution that the LCD monitor has been designed for, based on the actual number of liquid crystal cells in the display. Unlike CRT monitors, which can easily be switched between a variety of resolutions without noticeable loss in image quality, LCD monitors display best in their native resolution. Switching to nonnative resolutions is possible with LCD monitors as well, but it likely will result in a poorer quality image, or even a reduced use of the screen. The native resolution is based on the size of the monitor screen, not the manufacturer. As a reference, 15-inch monitors have a native 1024x768 resolution, 17 to 19-inch monitors are at 1280x1024, and 20-inch and greater monitors are generally at 1600x1200 resolution.
