Nieuwe gehackte firmware voor de Linksys Wrt54G(S) routers (alle versies 1, 1.1, 2)

Is de nieuwste officiele Linksys firmware + hack zodat je 13 kanalen hebt en hack om signaal te boosten.

What is HyperWRT?

HyperWRT is a power boost firmware for the Linksys WRT54G and WRT54GS router. It was made because lots of people had trouble with dropped signal strength when upgrading from the old v2.02.7 firmware to the new v2.04.3 firmware from Linksys, making this new firmware unusable for them.

HyperWRT firmware is based on the official Linksys v2.04.3 firmware and has these fixes :

- Xmit Power set to 42mW.
- 13 channels instead of 11.
- Boot Wait set to on.

Where can I download it?

Download HyperWRT v1.1 for WRT54G router here.
Download HyperWRT v1.1 for WRT54GS router here.
(Many thanks to LinksysInfo.org for the mirror).

Disclaimer : The following firmware is provided on an "as-is" basis.
I take no responsibility if your device breaks or malfunctions! Use at own risk!

How do I install HyperWRT?

1) Download and unzip HyperWRT.
2) Install as you flash normal firmware using a wired connection (wireless flashing has more chance to fail!).
3) Reset to defaults is optional, but recommanded to do.

Explanation of the fixes applied :

Why 42mW Xmit Power and not 84mW?
- It's more than enough for most people, it's even the double of that used in the original v2.02.7 firmware from Linksys.
- It's safe to use without extra cooling.
- It's legal to use in most countries.
- Any value above 56mW will make the signal dirty, which results in packet loss and interference on the other channels.

Why 13 channels?
For use in Europe. Notice that it's also possible to flash an Europe device with this firmware.
Please do only use the channels that are allowed in your country.

"Boot Wait", what's that?
When "Boot Wait" is set to "on" your router will wait 5 seconds on boot-up for new firmware (via TFTP on ethernet ports). Please notice that you will have to reset to defaults after flashing this firmware for this option to be activated.
If you for example would flash a new firmware and there is a power interruption or a bad flash happens you will most of the time be able to recover from it uploading new firmware on boot-up time with a TFTP client.

My router died, how do I revive it?

Sometimes a firmware flash can go bad, the power fails, your computer crashes or it just goes wrong.
Here are some tips & tricks you can use to revive your router :
Case 1 : Power led is steady
- Reset your router to defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds.
- Connect your router to your computer, putting the ethernet cable into a LAN port.
- See if your computer gets an IP from the router (something like 192.168.1.x), otherwise set a manual IP like 192.168.1.2.
- Flash v2.02.7 firmware using the TFTP client from Linksys (v2.04.3 firmware is too large to flash with TFTP), server is "192.168.1.1" and password "admin".
Case 2 : Power led keeps flashing
- Reset your router to defaults by holding the reset button down for 15 seconds.
- Connect your router to your computer, putting the ethernet cable into a LAN port.
- Set the manual IP "192.168.1.2" on your computer.
- Download v2.02.7 firmware, unpack and rename to "code.bin"
- Start command prompt on windows, go to the "code.bin" directory and type "tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put code.bin" and do NOT press Enter yet.
- Cold boot the router and in the period between the "all lights flashing" (with "boot wait" set to "on" this will be 5 seconds, with "boot wait" set to "off" only 1 second) press Enter on your computer.
Case 3 : The above didn't work
- If your router is still under warranty go back to your store.
- If not, proceed to the next step that will give you 99% chance of reviving your router!
- You will have to open up your router and follow the instructions on this site.

Kom ik hier toevallig op mijn eigen firmware uit :)
Ook wel fijn om te weten dat Telenetters deze gebruiken ;)
