Set out on a mission to assassinate the totalitarian penguin leader as Hardboiled Chicken. Destroy enemies with a slew of weapons and illuminate the secrets to his past while uncovering the real enemies of Albatropolis. Master fowl play in the co-op campaign as a pair of Budgie commandos on a mission to save the general’s daughter. Many lives will be destroyed, countless penguins will die!

A couple years ago at the Independent Game Festival awards we played a really cool PC platformer starring a humanoid chicken that snuck around shooting the hell out of other birds. That game was called Rocketbirds, and it's now on its way to the PlayStation Network (PSN). We played it on the show floor here at Comic-Con 2011 and are happy to let you know you should be looking forward to it. Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken (as it will be known on PSN) is stylish and amusing.

What's the setup?
Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken has a premise not unlike the action movies of the '80s. A lone beefcake soldier is dropped behind enemy lines and must single-handedly take down the oppressive regime. Replace Rambo with Foghorn Leghorn and you're starting to get the idea.

What's the gameplay like?
It's a 2D platformer where you move through single-screen scenes shooting enemies, climbing over walls, rolling through tunnels, and solving puzzles.

Any similar games you can relate Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken to?
You're right, context is important. Rocketbirds reminds us of the classy gunplay of Shank, the Cold War infiltration of Rush 'N Attack, and the quiet exploration of Out of this World.

What's your favorite part of Rocketbirds so far?
Its sense of humor. Unloading your pistol into giant chickens, air juggling them, and watching their blood splatter all over the walls is a delight. When our hero finds a jetpack, before liftoff he says, "Time for some jetpaction."

Any changes in the PSN version?
An optional stereoscopic 3D mode is being added that runs at 60 frames per second and 720p. Developer Ratloop says general visual and control tweaks are coming, as well.
