Een ode aan games als Carmageddon, Crazy Taxi en Twisted Metal.
Van de makers van GripShift en Shatter.
Contestants use vehicles to battle each other and zombies “in a televised game show” in and around a fictional Las Vegas-esque city.
The game also features multiplayer modes where up to four folks can drop in and drop out of the bloodbath at any time.
Woordje uitleg van de developer zelf:
As you may have noticed, this game is out in the very near future and hasn't had much in the way of marketing or hype (this announcement being everything to date). Compared to other Activision titles, this one is much lower on the internal radar there and will have to live or die on the merits of the game alone.
That being said, it is one of the few original titles to come out of Activision this year, so they have made an investment in trying something new - something which some people have commented they don't do enough of. They even made that investment on an underserved genre, which suggests they are willing to take both a creative and a commercial risk. We have been grateful for the opportunity to work on something original for retail rather than yet another licensed product.
The genesis of the title was borne out of a desire at Activision to try new things, and off the back of an existing development relationship with them we were approached to make something in the space. It is in many ways very different to games we have made in the past (certainly WAY more violent), though we have been able to leverage some of our experience of creating action driving games.
The title hasn't had the biggest budget or the longest development timeframe, but it is priced lower than most new PS3/360 releases. The development team has been working very hard to make sure to develop the best game possible with the time and resources we have had available, and we are hoping that people will enjoy the result.
I'm told that more screens, video and hands on previews are on the way over the next couple of weeks, so people will get more insight into the game before release. I'll be trying to get as much info out there as possible, though being on the development side it can sometimes be difficult to answer questions or release any information/media directly.
I've noted a couple of claims that we copied one game or another. Games like Carmageddon, Twisted Metal, and Crazy Taxi have certainly been influences, though the design of this game should stand apart from any of those titles, mixing car combat, zombie killing, and racing/time based elements. When we started the title last year, the likes of Twisted Metal Returns or Dead Rising 2 had not been announced, and we had already added the occasional nod/homage to those franchises amongst others. I can understand clearly how that might have been misconstrued, especially when the publisher leads an announcement with a screenshot of an "ice cream truck with a clown on it" (it is actually an ambulance and that's an unlockable skin).
