My old laptop is slowly wearing down. I mostly use it at home, for simple programming. Advice on where to find this and critique on the whole is appreciated.
My wish list:
Other things that might be worth looking out for are:
Battery life, power consumption, lifetime of the hardware (3 years at least please).
My wish list:
- Processor: Intel i7 (2nd/3rd gen?) (Quad core for fun multiprocess programming)
- RAM: 8 GB ram seems more common these days, so why not.
- Screen: LED display (Supposed to be better than LCD? Also uses less power?)
17 inch screen (widescreen?), or at least something around that size. Matt.
- Hard disk: HD/SSD combo or hybrid? Unsure about whats better. 7200 RM for the HD I suppose (Is there a noticable difference with 5400?). The amount of storage is of little importance, I can imagine that any HD will be enough.
- OS: Thinking of getting Ubuntu, so windows is no requirement.
- Keyboard: Azerty prefered, spillproof would be cool
- Graphics card: Do I need a graphics card? Will not having one take its toll on my CPU performance?
- Webcam would be nice, but I can manage without.
- Design: Generally robust design, scratch free and things like that. Also something that doesn't leave fingerprints all over, easy to clean and keep clean.
- Brand: I have no preference but advice about this is welcome
- Budget: If I could get all this for 1000 euros that would be awesome.
