Spannend!

Xbox advert criticised by advertising watchdog for using Playstation images to promote game
An advertisement for an Xbox 360 video game has been criticised by the advertising watchdog for showing images from the rival Playstation version of the game.
The Advertising Standards Authority found that Square-Enix, the makers of the sci-fi role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII, had misled video-gamers by not using images from the Xbox 360 but from its rival, the Playstation 3 (PS3).
The ASA acted after one viewer complained that the sequence of images from the game released in March this year in the UK were from the Sony PS3, which he said had better quality images than the Microsoft-produced Xbox.
[...]
ASA officials were sent both consoles and games by the makers and found that the PS3 screen quality was 'sharper' than the Xbox images and ordered the advertisement not to be shown again.
A spokesman for the ASA said the viewer's objections had been upheld, adding: "The ASA noted that the viewer, who saw the ad in HD, was concerned that the images from the PS3 version of the game were sharper than those on the XBOX 360.
"We tested the two games, on screens with an identical set up, and ran them alongside one another.
"We noted that there was a discernible difference in the picture quality of the two - the PS3 image in video sequences appeared sharper and colours were more vivid than those of the XBOX 360.
"We considered that, because the ad promoted the game on the XBOX 360 platform, it should have featured footage derived from that console.
"Because it did not, and because we considered that the use of PS3 footage in the ad exaggerated the quality of the footage available on the XBOX 360, albeit marginally, we concluded the ad was misleading."
